HOY ES PENTECOSTES

En este día, hace casi 2000 años, los apóstoles estaban tímidos y asustados se escondían en una habitación con puertas y ventanas cerradas. Jesús había muerto y había resucitado de entre los muertos y había ascendido al cielo hacia diez días y ahora estaban solos. ¿Qué iban a hacer? De repente, se llenaron con el Espíritu Santo, con energía y alegría, y comenzaron a proclamar en muchos idiomas: “¡Jesús es el Señor! Ahora estamos en paz. No tenemos los pecados de nadie contra ellos. ¡Que vivan los muertos! ”Y así nació la Iglesia, con la misión de proclamar a todos:“ Jesús es el Señor, perdónense unos a otros, amanse ”.

Apostles were timid and afraid

and hiding in a room with doors

and windows closed. Jesus had

been killed and risen from the

dead and ascended into heaven

ten days ago and now they were

alone. What were they to do?

Suddenly, they were filled with

the Holy Spirit, with energy and

joy and they started to proclaim

in many languages: “Jesus is the

Lord! Now we are at peace. We

do not hold anyone’s sins

against them. Let the dead live!”

And so was born the Church,

with the mission to proclaim to

all “Jesus is Lord, forgive each

other, love each other.”

EIGHTH RULE OF HUMILITY: TRADITION

The major question of modern life is deciding what needs to be kept if we are to stay what we are — Christian — and what we need to let go of if we want to be what we say we are.

Tradition is clearly not about holding on to past forms. It is about holding on to the roots of a common purpose while we prune some of its dead limbs. It's about understanding why we exist and being willing to start over again, if necessary, to maintain that. It is about listening again to the hard-won wisdom of the generations before us and making it real in our own times. It is not about turning life into a wax museum of exotic but useless oddities.

Change that is undertaken with the tradition in mind is what counts. Every spiritual community needs a community memory to help it trace the values and purpose that drove the high and low points of its development. It's not the actual way we did things in the past that counts. That's simply traditionalism. It's why we do what we do that is of the essence of tradition. St. Benedict tells us: It is the memory of the community — its recollection of opportunities missed, its recall of life-changing risks that catapulted the community into a totally new life cycle of success — that makes change a sacrament of hope.

The eighth step of humility liberates us from slavish commitment to the customs of the past. It frees us to move into the light of the Spirit with hope and with faith. It frees us to accept the grace of change. It stretches us to go beyond ourselves into the mind of God for the world and make ourselves a living part of it.

A Benedictine monk put it, "Tradition is not the stuff we pass on, it is the passing on of the stuff." The humility inherent in the eighth step of humility is the call to inherit the world of the others. The message is clear: There is no room in a group for rigidity, for the worship of the past, for the fear of the future.

OCTAVA REGLA DE LA HUMILDAD: TRADICION

La pregunta más importante de la vida moderna es decidir qué se debe mantener si queremos mantenernos como somos (cristianos) y qué debemos dejar de lado si queremos ser lo que decimos que somos. La tradición claramente no se trata de mantener formas pasadas. Se trata de aferrarnos a las raíces de un propósito común mientras cortamos algunos de sus ramas muertas. Se trata de comprender por qué existimos y estar dispuestos a comenzar de nuevo, si es necesario, para mantener eso. Se trata de volver a escuchar la sabiduría ganada con tanto esfuerzo de las generaciones anteriores y hacerla realidad en nuestros tiempos. No se trata de convertir la vida en un museo de cera de rarezas exóticas pero inútiles.

El cambio que se realiza teniendo en cuenta la tradición es lo que cuenta. Cada comunidad espiritual necesita una memoria de la comunidad para ayudarla a rastrear los valores y el propósito que impulsaron los puntos altos y bajos de su desarrollo. No es la forma real en que hicimos las cosas en el pasado lo que cuenta. Eso es simplemente el tradicionalismo. Es por eso que hacemos lo que hacemos que es de la esencia de la tradición.

San Benito nos dice: es el recuerdo de la comunidad, el recuerdo de las oportunidades perdidas, el recuerdo de los riesgos que cambian la vida, lo que catapultó a la comunidad a un ciclo de vida totalmente nuevo de éxito, lo que hace del cambio un sacramento de esperanza.

El octavo paso de la humildad nos libera del compromiso servil con las costumbres del pasado. Nos libera para movernos hacia la luz del Espíritu con esperanza y con fe. Nos libera para aceptar la gracia del cambio. Nos estira para ir más allá de nosotros mismos a la mente de Dios para el mundo y convertirnos en parte viva de él.

Un monje benedictino dijo: "La tradición no es lo que transmitimos, es

la transmisión de lo que es". La humildad inherente al octavo paso de la

humildad es el llamado a heredar el mundo de los demás. El mensaje es

claro: no hay lugar en un grupo para la rigidez, para la adoración del

pasado, para el miedo al futuro.

COLECTA DE SACERDOTES JUBILADOS

“Mientras nos preparamos para el Día de los Padres el

próximo domingo, les recuerdo que nuestra diócesis de

San Bernardino tiene 37 sacerdotes retirados. Algunos de

estos hombres todavía ayudan a nuestras parroquias

celebrando misas los fines de semana. Los invito a ayudar

los a apoyarlos y también a los que vendrán después de

ellos con sus necesidades actuales de salud, los costos de

automóviles y seguros de salud, vivienda, etc. En los

últimos 10 años, hemos sido bendecidos con 23 nuevos

sacerdotes. Estos hombres servirán durante muchos años

en San Bernardino y también debemos planificar

cuidadosamente su vejez. Así que,

por favor, apoya nuestra Colecta

para Sacerdotes Diocesanos

Jubilados el próximo domingo.

RETIRED PRIESTS COLLECTION

“As we prepare for Fathers’ Day next Sunday, I remind you

that our diocese of San Bernardino has 37 retired priests.

Some of these men still help our parishes by celebrating

Masses on weekends. I invite you to help support them and

those who will come after them with their ongoing

healthcare needs, auto and health insurance costs, housing,

etc. In the past 10 years we have been blessed with 23 new

priests. These men will serve for many years in San

Bernardino and we must carefully plan for their old age as

well. So please support our Collection for Retired Diocesan

Priests next Sunday. Thank you.” - Bishop Barnes

NEXT SUNDAY IS TRINITY SUNDAY AND FATHERS’ DAY

Our God is too big to understand as just another person. God creates all things, shares life with all things, guides all things. So we call God “Father, Son, and Holy Spirit” – the Holy Trinity.

We also celebrate all our FATHERS. These days much is said about women. Men are also essential. As our society gets more technical and busy and focused on “success”, fathers seem to be less important or looked at. But “The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him.” (Proverbs 20:7) Fathers, “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” (Proverbs 22:6) Fathers, your role is to teach, to show the way, to discipline, to love as a man loves. Accept your role. God bless you.

CONGRATULATIONS AND THANK YOU

Again, our Spring Fiesta was a great success, thank God. Although it rained all around us, it did not rain here until after 11:30pm. on Sunday night. And even though the crowds were not large we sold a lot of food. We danced with Flor de Pino. I saw many workers in the puestos joking and laughing with members of other puestos. It was a great atmosphere and I think everyone had a very good time. Grupo de Matrimonios’

Quesadilla puesto won the $100 “Most conscious of the Environment” award. Congratulations! Thank you all of our workers who put in so many hours and were faithful to your jobs, to our cleaners, to our ticket sellers, to our stage crew, to all our dancers and musicians, and to those who worked behind the scenes. About 15 volunteers came on Monday morning and we cleaned up the plaza in less than 3 hours, gone by 11 am.. Yet once again it is so clear that when we work together with many hands doing their part, even big jobs are easy. God bless all of you who helped to make our fiesta so successful. We’ll have the numbers soon and will share

them with you.

EL PRÓXIMO DOMINGO ES EL DOMINGO DE LA TRINIDAD Y EL DÍA DE LOS PADRES

Nuestro Dios es demasiado grande para entenderlo como otra persona. Dios crea todas las cosas, comparte la vida con todas las cosas, guía todas las cosas. Fue un gran ambiente y creo que todos no la pasamos muy bien. El puesto de Quesadillas de Grupo de Matrimonios ganó el premio de $ 100 por ser el “Más consciente del medio ambiente”. ¡Felicidades! Gracias a todos nuestros trabajadores que trabajaron tantas horas y fueron fieles a sus trabajos, a nuestros trabajadores de limpieza, vendedores de tickets, equipo de escena, a todos nuestros bailarines y músicos- Banda “Flor de Pino” “Catracho Norteño” Banda “Nueva Sensación”, Grupo Versátil, “Viento Cálido”, Grupo Versátil “Juke Box”, Coro “Última Opción”, Grupo Alabanzas “Eternum Dei”, “Victoria Ortega y Gabriel Roldan” Ballet Folclórico “Tierra de mi Padre “Ballet Folklórico “Algarabía Mexicana”

Alrededor de 15 voluntarios vinieron el lunes por la mañana y limpiamos la plaza en menos de 3 horas, antes de las 11 am. Sin embargo, una vez más queda tan claro que cuando trabajamos juntos con muchas manos haciendo su parte, incluso los trabajos grandes son fáciles. Dios los bendiga a todos ustedes que ayudaron a que nuestra fiesta fuera tan exitosa. Tendremos los números pronto y los compartiremos con usted.

ADVENTURES IN MARRIAGE AND FAMILY LIFE

We began a series of workshops on communication within families last Wednesday and will

continue them every Wednesday in June and July in the church from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Many

families and couples have difficulty communicating well and this causes tensions and many

problems. Please come and see if these simple

workshops don’t help you. At least come to the next one.

If you like it, keep coming. If you don’t, you can stop.

But please try one! They are FREE.
