attach wall units together alongtheir vertical length.
2.44m Alfablocs must only be lifted with anapproved lifting attachment or with a suitable lifting chain if lifting loops are to be used inaccordance with safety instructions.
Once secured to the forklift tines, the lifting attachment is inserted into the hollowof the A to lift the Alfabloc.
N.B. 3.05m & 3.65m are designed to be liftedusing the horizontal cross member 1.4m abovethe base of the block and therefore noattachment is required

Alfablocs are delivered upright on a flatbedvehicle.
N.B. Some Alfablocs will be delivered withoutsteel connecting straps fitted.
These strapless units should always beused to begin installation of each new rowof Alfablocs. This allows the first Alfabloc ina row to be placed flat against a retaining wall.
Always lift Alfablocs into position with the connecting straps facing away from theforklift i.e. towards the installed units.
Align the Alfabloc with the previouslyinstalled unit.
Lift the Alfabloc approximately 450mmfrom ground level to enable you to lower itinto place over installed unit.
Once in position lower the Alfabloc into placeso that the connecting straps fit securely overthe installed unit.
NB: DO NOT attempt to install Alfablocs byinserting the unstrapped end of one unit intothe strapped end of an installed unit. Alfablocmust always be lowered into place asdescribed above.

To secure Alfablocs in place, first loosenthe bolts in the 2 connecting straps of thefreshly installed unit.
Align the holes in the front edge of theconnecting straps with the holes in thepreviously installed unit. Insert bolts andtighten to secure the Alfabloc in place.
Re-tighten the previously loosened bolts inthe newly installed unit.
Repeat the process (steps 5-11) until thedesired number of units are installed ineach row.

Alfablocs fitted with corner sections are moved into position the same way as normal blocks fitted with connecting straps.
Instructions For Handling & Installation
Attach steel end cover, if required, by bolting into the holes in the last unit installed in each row.
If required, a steel corner section can be attached to an Alfabloc in place of the connecting straps. This allows Alfablocs to be placed at right angles to one anotherforming a secure sealed corner. (16)

Applications
The Alfabloc is a very structurally efficient and versatile concept in design. Inthe majority of working conditions theAlfabloc units are lowly stressed and provide a robust retaining structure. With granular materials, which generally provide the most onerous loadings, theAlfabloc unit has additional stability generated by the frictional force down theface of the wall.
Experience has shown the units can withstand significant misuse by mechanicalplant used to move retained material. However, as with any relatively thin walledconcrete structure, they will suffer damagewith persistent and negligent striking bymechanical plant.
The foundation for the Alfabloc system isusually the new or existing concrete hardstanding onto which stored materials will becontained. The loads imposed by the
Alfabloc units are usually no more than thewheel loads imposed by the mechanicalplant utilised to move the stored material. Depending on the nature of the stored material the units can be either placed ontothe concrete hard standing or bolted intoplace. To assist in the spread of load horizontally the units are nominally fixedtogether with a galvanised plate, which alsoprovides a seal to the joints.
