Babelsberg” will provide insights into the garden design finesse of Hermann, Prince of Pückler-Muskau from the end of April to mid-October 2017. After all, the views to Babelsberg Park, one of the most beautiful garden creations by this park enthusiast prince, are indeed extremely princely. According to Hermann, Prince of Pückler-Muskau (1785–1871) a garden was to constitute the „continuation of the palace rooms into the open air.“ Commissioned by the Prussian royal couple William and Augusta, he realized precisely this idea at Babelsberg Palace and Park. The artistic combination of architecture, garden and the Potsdam park landscape stands central to the exhibition, which for the first time reopens the genuine, unaltered views from Babelsberg Palace to Pückler’s park grounds that have been restored once again. Inspired by his extensive travels, this “magician”, as Princess Augusta (1811–1890) referred to Pückler, transformed Babelsberg Park into a lively work of art with artificial waterworks and lavish garden terraces. But Pückler, the sophisticated dandy, also put his “garden services” to skillful use in Babelsberg as a currency for improving his standing at court. While the restored terraces and waterworks may be admired once again in the park, authentic evidence such as paintings, maps and letters, but also visual installations inside the Palace allow for glimpses into the bag of tricks of the „park enthusiast“ prince and his role at the Prussian court. The exhibition “Pückler. Babelsberg” will provide insights into the garden design finesse of Hermann, Prince of Pückler-Muskau from the end of April to mid-October 2017. After all, the views to Babelsberg Park, one of the most beautiful garden creations by this park enthusiast prince, are indeed extremely princely.
According to Hermann, Prince of Pückler-Muskau (1785–1871) a garden was to constitute the „continuation of the palace rooms into the open air.“ Commissioned by the Prussian royal couple William and Augusta, he realized precisely this idea at Babelsberg Palace and Park. “THE GARDEN MAGICIAN”
Einblicke in die gartenkünstlerische Raffinesse des Fürsten Hermann von Pückler-Muskau gewährt die Ausstellung „Pückler. Babelsberg“ von Ende April bis Mitte Oktober 2017. Überaus fürstlich sind die Ausblicke auf eine der schönsten Gartenschöpfungen des grünen Fürsten – den Park Babelsberg.
Ein Garten solle die „Fortsetzung der Schlossräume unter freiem Himmel“ sein, befand Hermann Fürst von Pückler-Muskau (1785–1871). Genau diese Idee setzte er im Auftrag des preußischen Prinzenpaars Wilhelm und Augusta in Schloss und Park Babelsberg um. Die kunstvolle Verknüpfung von Architektur, Garten und der Potsdamer Parklandschaft steht im Mittelpunkt der Ausstellung, die erstmals unverstellte Blicke aus dem Schloss Babelsberg auf die wieder hergestellte Pücklersche Parkanlage eröffnet.
Angeregt von seinen ausgedehnten Reisen verwandelte der „Zauberer“, wie Prinzessin Augusta (1811–1890) Pückler nannte, den Park Babelsberg in ein lebendiges Kunstwerk mit künstlichen Wasserspielen und üppigen Gartenterrassen. Doch der weltgewandte Lebemann Pückler wusste seine
„Gartendienste“ in Babelsberg auch geschickt als Währung im höfischen Ränkespiel zu benutzen.
Während im Park die sanierten Terrassen und Wasserspiele wieder bewundert werden können, gewähren im Schloss authentische Zeugnisse wie Gemälde, Pläne und Briefe, aber auch optische Installationen, Einblicke in die Trickkiste des „grünen Fürsten“ und seine Rolle am preußischen Hof.
Sie können die Ausstellung im Schloss und Park ganz individuell mit dem Ausstellungsplan besuchen. Außerdem haben Sie die Möglichkeit, im Rahmen unseres Begleitprogramms an Sonderführungen teilzunehmen.
