Important informationWe are happy that you decided to pur-chase a Blaupunkt car audio systemand hope that you will enjoy your newsound system.

This instruction manual was designedto help you use your new car audio sys-tem in the optimum way. Please takethe time to read the instruction manualcarefully and make yourself familiar withthe audio equipment. Keep this manualhandy in your car for future reference.

Traffic safety Traffic safety is always the top

priority. Do not attempt to operateyour car audio system unless the traf-fic conditions permit. Familiarizeyourself with the equipment beforeyou start driving.Always make sure that you are stillable to hear any warning signalscoming from outside the vehicle,such as police or fire engine sirens,at all times.As a result, please always select amoderate volume for playing your caraudio system while you are driving.

InstallationIf you would like to install your new carstereo yourself or add other audio com-ponents to the existing ones, thenplease read the instructions on installa-tion and connection at the end of thismanual carefully.

AccessoriesUse only Blaupunkt-approved accesso-ries.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Remote control unitThe optionally available RC 08 infraredremote control unit allows you to con-veniently operate the most importantsystem functions from the steeringwheel.

AmplifiersAll Blaupunkt amplifiers can be used.

CD changersThe following CD changers can be con-nected directly: CDC A 06, CDC A 08,CDC A 072 and IDC A 09.The CDC A 05 and CDC A 071 can beconnected with an adapter cable (Blau-punkt no. 7 607 889 093).

The Minnesota DJ30 and the OntarioDJ30 both come included with the CDCA 08 CD changer.

THEFT PROTECTION SYSTEM

Theft protection system

Removable front panelYour new car audio system (BostonC30, Dublin C30, Montreux C30 andOntario DJ30) has been equipped witha removable front panel (release pan-el) to protect it against theft. Without thisoperating panel, the equipment is use-less to thieves.Protect your car audio system againsttheft and take the operating panel withyou each time you leave the vehicle.Never leave the release panel in the car,even if it is well hidden. The panel hasbeen designed so that it is easy to re-move.

Notes: Do not drop the release panel.

Do not expose the release panel todirect sunlight or other heat sourc-es.

Do not expose the release panel tomoisture.

Store the release panel in the casesupplied.

Removing the operating panel

Press 1.

The release panel will unlock.

First pull the operating panel for-ward and then slide it to the left toremove it.

When you remove the operatingpanel, the car audio system will au-tomatically switch off.

All of the settings will remainstored.

A cassette tape inserted into thecar audio system will remain inplace.

Replacing the operating panel

Slide the operating panel into theguides from left to right.

Press the left-hand side of the pan-el onto the car audio system until itlocks into place.

Note: While replacing the panel, be care-

ful not to press on the display.

If the car audio system was on whenyou removed the panel, it will automat-ically switch back on using the samesettings when you replace it (radio, tapedeck or CD changer).

Code theft protectionTo protect your car audio system againsttheft, it has been equipped with a four-digit code number. This number has tobe entered each time the car audio sys-tem is disconnected from its power sup-ply. The code inquiry is not activated forthe car audio system at the factory, butyou can activate it yourself.You will find the code number in theRadio Pass.

Note:Do not leave the Radio Pass in yourvehicle!

Activating/deactivating the code

To switch the code on/off, proceedas follows:

Press 4 to switch the car audiosystem off.

Press and hold down station keys1 and 4 @ at the same time.

While holding down these keys,press 4 to switch the car audiosystem on.

Continue to hold down the keys un-til “BLAU” - “PUNKT” appears inthe display.

Release the keys.

The coding has now been activated.

To deactivate the code, follow ex-actly the same steps. To ensurethat unauthorized persons do notdeactivate the code, you will be re-quired to enter the code to finishthe process.

Entering the code number

Switch on the car audio system.

“CODE” and then “0000” will appear inthe display.

Press station key 1 @ repeatedlyuntil the first digit of your codenumber appears in the display.

Press station key 2 @ repeatedlyuntil the second digit of your codenumber appears in the display.

Press station key 3 @ repeatedlyuntil the third digit of your codenumber appears in the display.

Press station key 4 @ repeatedlyuntil the fourth digit of your codenumber appears in the display.

When the correct code number ap-pears in the display, press >.

Note:If you enter the code number incorrect-ly three times in succession, a waitingperiod of one hour will go into effect.“WAIT 1 H” will appear in the display.During this waiting period, the car au-dio system must remain switched on.

Switching the car audiosystem on/offThe car audio system can be switchedon/off in a number of ways.

Switching the car audio system on/off with the ignitionIf the car audio system has been con-nected to your vehicle ignition, it is pos-sible to switch it on and off with the igni-tion.

You can also switch the car audio sys-tem on when the ignition is switched off.

Press down and hold 4 until thecar audio system switches on.

Note:To prevent the car battery from runningdown, the radio will switch off again au-tomatically after one hour.

Switching the car audio system on/off with the removable front panel(for the Boston C30, Dublin C30,Montreux C30 and Ontario DJ30 only)

Remove the release panel.

The car audio system will switch off.

Replace the release panel.

The car audio system will switch onagain. The last settings used (radio, tapedeck or CD changer) will be activated.

SWITCHING ON/OFF

Activating/deactivating the LEDcodeTo visibly indicate that the Augsburg C30and the Minnesota DJ30 are equippedwith theft protection, you can activatethe code LED. The code LED will flashin key 4 when the car audio system isswitched off.

Press MENU ?.

“MENU” will appear in the display.

Press or > repeatedly until“LED” appears in the display.“OFF” or “ON” will appear next toLED in the display.

To switch the LED on or off, press or >.

Once you have completed yoursettings, press MENU ?.

VOLUME CONTROL

Switching the car audio system on/off by pressing 4

Press 4 to switch the car audiosystem on.

Press 4 for longer than two sec-onds to switch the car audio sys-tem off again.

The system will then switch off.

Switching the car audio system onby inserting a cassette tapeIf the system is switched off and thereis no cassette in the tape deck,

insert a cassette into the tape deckwith the open side facing towardsthe right until you hear it click intoplace. Do not use force.

The audio system will switch on. Tapeplayback will begin.

Volume controlThe car audio system volume can beadjusted to levels from 0 (off) to 66 (max-imum).

To increase the volume, turn thevolume control knob 3 to theright.

To decrease the volume, turn thevolume control knob 3 to the left.

Adjusting the power-on volumeIt is possible to adjust the volume atwhich the car audio system switches on.

Press MENU ?.

“MENU” will appear in the display.

Press or > repeatedly until“ON VOL” appears in the display.

Press > to adjust the vol-ume.

If you adjust this setting to “0”, the caraudio system will switch on at the vol-ume used before it was switched off.

Warning of serious injuryIf the power-on volume is set to themaximum level, it may be extremelyloud when the car audio system isswitched on.If the power-on volume is set to 0 andthe car audio system was played atmaximum volume before it wasswitched off, it may be extremely loudwhen the car audio system isswitched back on. This could resultin serious injury to your ears!

Once you have selected the de-sired settings, press MENU ?twice.

MuteYou can reduce the volume of the caraudio system immediately (mute).

Press 4 briefly.

“MUTE” will appear in the display.

Selecting the mute levelIt is possible to select the mute level.

Press MENU ?.

“MENU” will appear in the display.

Press or > repeatedly until“MUTE LVL” appears in the display.

Press > to select the mutelevel.

Once you have made your selec-tion, press MENU ? twice.

Mute during telephoneoperationIf your car audio system is equipped witha mobile telephone, it will automaticallyswitch to mute when you use the phone.This will not work unless the mobilephone is connected to the car audiosystem as described in the installationinstructions.If a traffic announcement is receivedduring a phone call and traffic informa-tion priority has been activated, you willhear the traffic announcement. For moreinformation, refer to the section on “Traf-fic information”.

Switching the beep tone on/offFor a number of functions you will heara beep if you press a key for longer thantwo seconds, e.g. if you want to store aradio station on a station preset.

Press MENU ?.

“MENU” will appear in the display.

Press or > repeatedly until“BEEP” appears in the display.“ON” or “OFF” will appear next to“BEEP” in the display.

To switch this function on or off,press or >.

Once you have adjusted the set-tings, press MENU ?.

RADIO OPERATION

Radio operationThis car audio system has beenequipped with an RDS radio receiver.Along with their regular station program-ming, many FM radio stations nowtransmit the RDS signal, which containssuch other information as the stationname and the program type (PTY).As soon as the car audio system receiv-er detects the station name, it will ap-pear in the display. It is also possible todisplay the program type. For more in-formation, refer to the section on “Pro-gram Type (PTY)”.

Switching to the radio modeIf you are currently using the tape deckor CD changer,

press CD•C < repeatedly until“RADIO” appears in the display.

Special RDS functions (AF, REG)The special RDS functions for AF (Al-ternate Frequency) and REG (Region-al) enhance the performance of your caraudio system.

AF. If this RDS function is activat-ed, the car audio system continu-ously searches in the backgroundfor the frequency with the best re-ception for the station you havetuned into.

REG. A number of radio stationsbroadcast different regional pro-gramming at different times of theday. Use REG to prevent your caraudio system from tuning into alter-nate frequencies which might havedifferent programming.

Note:It is necessary to activate/deactivateREG in the menu.

Switching REG on/off

Press MENU ?.

“MENU” will appear in the display.

Press or > repeatedly until“REG” appears in the display.“OFF” or “ON” will appear next to“REG”.

Press or > to switch REG offor on.

Once you have completed yoursettings, press MENU ?.

Switching RDS functions on/off

To take advantage of the RDSfunctions for AF and REG, pressRDS 5.

When the RDS functions have beenactivated, RDS will light up in the dis-play.

Selecting wavebands/memorybanksUsing this car audio system, you cantune into radio stations on the FM, MWand LW (AM) wavebands (MW and LWare not available for the Augsburg C30and the Minnesota DJ30). There arethree memory banks for the FM wave-band and one memory bank each forMW and LW. You can store five stationsin each of these memory banks.

Selecting the FM memory level

To switch between the FM memorylevels, press FMT or FM 2.

Selecting the MW or LW memorylevels

To switch between the MW and LWmemory levels, press M•L 6 (notavailable for the Augsburg C30 andthe Minnesota DJ30).

Tuning into radio stationsYou can tune into radio stations in anumber of different ways.

Automatic seek tuningPress or >.

The radio will tune into the next availa-ble station within reception range.

Manual station selectionYou can also tune into radio stationsmanually.

Press or >.

Note:You cannot use manual tuning unlessthe RDS function and the PTY functionare deactivated.

Paging through the broadcastingnetwork (for FM only)If a radio broadcasting network hasmore than one station, you can pagethrough the “station network”.

Press or > to tune into thenext station in the network.

Note:To take advantage of this function, youmust have activated the RDS functionsand deactivated the PTY function.

It is only possible to tune into those sta-tions which have been received once

before already. To do this, start theTravelStore function.

Adjusting seek tuning sensitivityIt is possible to adjust the sensitivity ofthe seek tuning function to tune the ra-dio into stations with strong receptionsignals only, or to those with weakerreception signals as well.

Press MENU ?.

“MENU” will appear in the display.

Press or > repeatedly until“SENS” appears in the display.

The currently selected setting will ap-pear next to “SENS”. “SENS HI6” indi-cates the highest level of sensitivity,“SENS LO1” the lowest. If you select“SENS LO”, lo will light up in the dis-play.

Press > to select the desiredsensitivity.

Once you have made your selec-tion, press MENU ?.

Storing radio stations

Storing radio stations manually

Select the desired memory bankFM1, FM2, FMT or either MW orLW (MW and LW are not availablefor the Augsburg C30 and the Min-nesota DJ30).

Tune the radio into the desired sta-tion.

Press and hold down one of thestation preset buttons 1 to 5 @ onwhich you want to store the radiostation for longer than two sec-onds.

Storing radio stations automatically(TravelStore)You can automatically store the five ra-dio stations with the strongest receptionin your current reception area (for FMonly). These stations will be stored inthe FMT memory bank.

Note:Any stations stored previously in thememory bank will be deleted.

Press and hold down FMT 2 forlonger than two seconds or pressTS 6 briefly (for the AugsburgC30 and the Minnesota DJ30 only).

The storing process will begin.“T-STORE” will appear in the display.After the stations have been stored, theradio will automatically begin to play thestation stored on preset button 1 for theFMT memory bank.

Recalling stored radio stations Select the desired station memory

bank or waveband.

Press the station button 1 to 5 @on which you have stored the de-sired radio station.

Program Type (PTY)In addition to the radio station name, anumber of FM stations transmit infor-mation on the type of program theybroadcast. This car audio system hasbeen equipped to receive and displaythis information.

These program types can include:

CULTURE TRAVEL JAZZ

SPORT NEWS POP

ROCK CLASSICS

Using the PTY function, you can selectthe radio station according to the typeof program being broadcast.

As soon as the radio registers a radiostation broadcasting the program typeselected, it will automatically switch fromthe station playing or from the tape deckor CD changer mode to that station.

Switching PTY on/off

Press MENU ?.

“MENU” will appear in the display.

Press or > repeatedly until“PTY ON” or “PTY OFF” appears inthe display.

Press or > to switch thisfunction either on or off.

Once you have made the desiredsetting, press MENU ?.

Selecting the program type andstarting seek tuning

Press or >.

The currently selected program type willappear in the display.

If you would like to select a differ-ent program type, press or >to switch to another program type.

Press or > to start seek tun-ing.

The next radio station broadcasting theprogram selected will begin to play.

Note:If the radio is not able to find a stationbroadcasting the program type select-ed, you will hear a beep and “NO PTY”will appear briefly in the display. Thestation selected previously will thenresume play.

Selecting the PTY languageIt is possible to select the language inwhich the program type is displayed.

Press MENU ?.

“MENU” will appear in the display.

Press or > repeatedly until“PTY LANG” appears in the dis-play.

Press or > to select fromamong German, English andFrench.

When the language you wish to ac-tivate appears in the display, pressMENU ? twice.

Interference-related treble cut(HICUT)The HICUT function improves receptionwhen reception begins to deteriorate. Ifinterference occurs, then the treble andthe noise is cut automatically.

Switching HICUT on/off

Press MENU ?.

“MENU” will appear in the display.

Press or > repeatedly until“HICUT” appears in the display.

Press or > to switch HICUTon or off.

“HICUT 0” indicates that the function isswitched off; “HICUT 1” means that thetreble will be automatically cut as far aspossible.

Once you have completed yoursettings, press MENU ?.

Selecting the display of variabletextA number of radio stations use the RDSsignal to transmit advertising or othertexts in place of their station names.These “variable texts” will appear in thedisplay. It is possible to adjust your ra-dio so that these “variable texts” do notappear.

Press and hold down RDS 5 until“NAME FIX” appears in the display.

To have the “variable texts” dis-played again, press and hold downRDS 5 until “NAME VAR” ap-pears in the display.

Adjusting the volume for trafficannouncements Press MENU ?.

“MENU” will appear in the display.

Press or > repeatedly until“TAVOLUME” appears in the dis-play.

Press > to adjust the trafficannouncement volume.

Once you have adjusted the set-ting, press MENU ? twice.

Traffic information

Switching traffic informationpriority on/off Press TRAFFIC A.

Traffic information priority is activatedwhen TRAFFIC lights up in the display.

Note:You will hear a warning beep

if you leave the reception area ofthe traffic information station youare tuned into.

if you are listening to a cassettetape or a CD, leave the receptionarea of the traffic information sta-tion you are tuned into and the au-tomatic seek tuning function is una-ble to find another traffic informa-tion station.

if you switch from a traffic informa-tion station to a station which doesnot broadcast traffic information.

Then either switch off traffic informationpriority or switch to a different traffic in-formation station.

Interrupting a traffic announcement

Press TRAFFIC A during the traf-fic announcement to interrupt justthis traffic announcement.

The car audio system will switch backto the previous setting. Traffic informa-tion priority will remain effective for fur-ther announcements.

Tape deck operation

Starting tape deck operation If there is no cassette in the tape

deck,

insert a cassette into the tape deckwith the open side facing towardsthe right.

Cassette playback will begin with theside facing upwards. The cassette sym-bol will light up in the display.

If there already is a cassette insert-ed into the tape deck,

press CD•C < repeatedly until“CASSETTE” appears in the dis-play.

Playback will resume on the side of thetape which was played last.

Cassette eject Press 7.

The cassette will eject.

Changing cassette sides To switch from SIDE A to SIDE B

and vice versa, press FR 9 andFF : at the same time.

Note:Once the tape reaches the end, it willautomatically switch to the other side(autoreverse).

Fast forward/rewind

Fast forward

Press FF : until it clicks in.

“FORWARD” will appear in the display.

Fast rewind

Press FR 9 until it clicks in.

“REWIND” will appear in the display.

Stopping fast forward/rewind

Press the opposite button.

Playback will resume normally.

Note:During fast forward/rewind, the radiostation you are currently tuned into willplay.

Traffic information duringcassette playbackIf you activate the “TRAFFIC” function(traffic information priority), your caraudio system will always be on stand-by for traffic information. If a traffic an-nouncement is received, cassette play-back will be interrupted and you will hearthe message. For more information, re-fer to the section on “Traffic information”.

CD changer operationThe Minnesota DJ30 and the OntarioDJ30 come included with the CDC A 08CD changer. All of the CD changers list-ed in the section on “Accessories” canbe used in combination with the Augs-burg C30, the Boston C30, the DublinC30 and the Montreux C30.

Note:For information on how to handle CDs,how to insert CDs into the changer andhow to operate the changer, please re-fer to the instructions included with theCD changer.

Starting CD changer operation Press CD•C < repeatedly until

“CHANGER” appears in the dis-play.

Playback will begin with the first CD thechanger detects in the magazine.

Selecting CDs To select a CD up or down in the

magazine, press or > the re-quired number of times.

Selecting tracks To select a different track on the

CD currently playing, press or > the required number of times.

Audible fast forward/reverse(CUE/REVIEW)To start Cue or Review,

press and hold down either or >.

Switching the display modeTo switch the display between the tracknumber and CD number or the tracknumber and elapsed playing time,

press MENU ?.

“MENU” will appear in the display.

Press or > repeatedly until“CDC DISP” appears in the display.

Press or >.

The display setting currently selectedwill appear: “TIME” for the display of thetrack number and playing time or “CDNO” for the track number and CDnumber.

Press or > to make the de-sired setting.

Once you have made your set-tings, press MENU ? twice.

Repeating individual tracks orentire CDs (REPEAT) To repeat the track currently play-

ing, press 3 (RPT) @ briefly.

“RPT TRCK” will appear briefly in thedisplay, RPT will light up in the display.

To repeat the entire CD currentlyplaying, press 3 (RPT) @ again.

“RPT DISC” will appear briefly in thedisplay, RPT will light up in the display.

Stopping the REPEAT function

To stop the REPEAT function forthe current track or CD, press3 (RPT) @ repeatedly until “RPTOFF” appears in the display andRPT no longer lights up.

Playing tracks in random order(MIX) To play the tracks of the currently

selected CD in random order,press 4 (MIX) @ briefly.

“MIX CD” will appear briefly in the dis-play, MIX will light up in the display.

To play the tracks of all of the CDsin random order, press 4 (MIX) @again.

“MIX ALL” will appear briefly in the dis-play, MIX will light up in the display.

Note:The CDC A 08 and the IDC A 09 arealso able to play all of the CDs in thechanger in random order. The other CDchangers first play all of the tracks on aCD in random order and then select thenext CD in the changer.

Stopping the MIX function To stop the MIX function, press

4 (MIX) @ repeatedly until “MIXOFF” appears briefly in the displayand MIX no longer lights up.

Scanning all of the tracks on allof the CDs (SCAN) To scan all of the tracks on all of

the CDs in ascending order, press5 (SCAN) @.

“SCAN” will appear in the display.

Stopping the SCAN function

To stop the SCAN function, press5 (SCAN) @.

The track currently scanned will contin-ue playing.

Note:It is possible to adjust the scan time frombetween 5 and 30 seconds in the menu.

Adjusting Scantime Press MENU ?.

“MENU” will appear in the display.

Press or > repeatedly until“SCANTIME” appears in the dis-play.

Press > to select the desiredscan time.

Once you have made the settings,press MENU ? twice.

Interrupting playback (PAUSE)

Press 2 ( ) @.

“PAUSE” will appear in the display.

Stopping PAUSE

Press 2 ( ) @ during the pause.

Playback will resume.

Setting the time To set the time, press MENU ?.

“MENU” will appear in the display.

The time will appear in the display. Theminutes will flash and can be altered.

Press or > to alter the min-utes.

Once you have altered the min-utes, press >. The hours willbegin to flash.

Press or > to alter thehours.

Once you have made the settings,press MENU ? twice.

Selecting the 12/24-hour timedisplay mode Press MENU ?.

“MENU” will appear in the display.

Press or > repeatedly until“24 H MODE” or “12 H MODE” ap-pears in the display.

Press or > to switch the dis-play mode.

Once you have selected the mode,press MENU ?.

Activating the clock for displaywhen the car audio system isswitched offWhen the car audio system is switchedoff, but the vehicle ignition isswitched on, you can activate the clockdisplay.

Press MENU ?.

“MENU” will appear in the display.

Press or > repeatedly until“CLOCKOFF” or “CLOCK ON” ap-pears in the display.

Press or > to switch theclock display on or off.

Once you have made the setting,press MENU ?.

Displaying the time briefly whenthe car audio system isswitched offTo display the time briefly when the caraudio system is switched off,

press MENU ( ) ?.

The time will then appear in the displayfor eight seconds.

Switching Loudness on/offLoudness boosts the bass and treblewhen the volume is low to create a morenatural sound.

Press AUDIO (LD) = for morethan two seconds.

LD will light up in the display to indicatethat Loudness is active.

Adjusting Loudness intensityThe Loudness boost can be set in stag-es from one to six.

Press MENU ?.

“MENU” will appear in the display.

Press or > repeatedly until“LOUDNESS” appears in the dis-play.

Press or > to alter the Loud-ness setting.

“LOUD 6” is the maximum boost,“LOUD 1” the minimum.

Once you have completed adjust-ing the settings, press MENU ?twice.

External audio sourcesIn stead of the CD changer it is alsopossible to connect other external au-dio sources to the line output. Thesesources can include a portable CD play-er, MiniDisc player or MP3 player.You must activate the AUX output in themenu.If you would like to connect another ex-ternal audio source, you will require anadapter cable. This adapter cable canbe ordered from any authorized Blau-punkt dealer.

Switching the AUX output on/off Press MENU ?.

“MENU” will appear in the display.

Press or > repeatedly until“AUX OFF” or “AUX ON” appearsin the display.

Press or > to switch AUX onor off.

Once you have completed your se-lections, press MENU ?.
