five nectars and five lamps, each marked with their own seed syllable.

འོག་གི་རླུང་གཡོས་མེ་སྦར་རྫས་ཐམས་ཅད་ཞུ་ཞིང་འདྲེས་པའི་སྟེང་གི་ནམ་མཁའ་ལ་ཨོཾ་ཨཱཿཧཱུཾ་གི་ཡི་གེ་གསུམ་གནས་པ་ལས་OG GI LUNG YÖ ME BAR DZE THAM CHÄ ZHU ZHING DRE PA’I TENG GI NAM KHA LA OM AH HUM GI YI GE SUM NE PA LE

As the wind stirs beneath them, fire blazes up, melting and mixing all the substances. In the sky above are the three syllables OM AH HUM,

འཕྲོས་པའི་འོད་ཟེར་གྱིས་དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀྱིས་ཐུགས་ཀ་ནས་THRÖ PA’I Ö ZER GYI DE ZHIN SHEG PA THAM CHÄ KYI THUG KA NE emanating rays of light to invoke wisdom nectar from the hearts of all the buddhas.

ཡེ་ཤེས་ཀྱི་བདུད་རྩི་བཀུག་ཡི་གེ་གསུམ་ལ་ཐིམ་སྟེ་རིམ་པར་ཞུ་བ་ལས་དམ་ཚིག་གི་རྫས་དང་རོ་གཅིག་ཏུ་གྱུར་པར་བསམ་ལ། YE SHE KYI DÜ TSI KUG YI GE SUM LA THIM TE RIM PAR ZHU WA LE DAM TSHIG GI DZE DANG RO CHIG TU GYUR //

The wisdom nectar is absorbed into the three syllables, and they gradually melt, mixing inseparably with the samaya substances.

ཨོཾ་སིདྡྷི་རསྟུ།OM SIDDHI RASTU //

བླ་མ་མཆོག་དང་དབྱེར་མེད་ཡི་དམ་ལྷ། །དམ་ཅན་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་ཚོགས་ལ་ཕྱག་འཚལ་ནས། །དེ་མཉེས་བྱེད་པའི་གཏོར་མའི་ལས་རིམ་དག །དང་པོའི་ལས་ཅན་དོན་དུ་ཉུང་ངུར་བྲི། །Paying homage to the supreme lama, inseparable from the yidam deity, and the infinite hosts of oath-bound guardians, I shall briefly set out, for the sake of begin-ners, the activities of offering torma to delight these guardians.

ལག་གཡོན་གདེང་ཨོཾ་གྱིས་སྦྱང། གཡས་གདེངས་ཨཱཿས་སྤེལ། སྙིམ་པ་བཀན་ཏེ་ཧཱུཾ་གིས་ཁ་དོག་དྲི་རོ་ཕུན་སུམ་ཚོགས་པར་བྱས། མཁའ་ལྡིང་གི་རྒྱས་ཧོ་ཞེས་ཟག་མེད་ཀྱི་བདུད་རྩིར་བལྟས་ལ་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབས། །As you consider this, bless the offerings in the following way: raise your left hand and purify with OM, raise your right hand and increase with AH, cup your hands together and, with HUM, transform them so that they take on the most excellent colour, scent and taste, and, with the mudrā of the garuda and the syllable ho, are transformed into immaculate nectar.

From the syllable hūṃ at my heart appear hook-shaped rays of light, streaking out like lightning, to invoke the glorious wisdom

འདིར་དམ་ཅན་སྤྱིའི་གཏོར་མའི་ཕྲིན་ལས་ལ་འཇུག་པར་འདོད་པ་ཡིད་དང་མཐུན་པའི་གནས་སུ། སྐུ་རྟེན་སྤྱན་གཟིགས་སོགས་མཛེས་པར་བསྟར་ཞིང་གཏོར་སྣོད་གསུམ་གྱི་ནང་དུ་བླ་མ་ཡི་དམ་དབྱེར་མེད། ནག་པོ་ཆེན་པོ་ཡེ་ཤེས་དམ་ཅན་སྤྱི། གཏེར་སྲུང་གཞི་བདག་དང་བཅས་པའི་གཏོར་མ་རྒྱན་ལྡན། སྨན་རཀ་ཉེར་སྤྱོད་དང་བཅས་པ་བཤམས། རང་གི་མདུན་དུ་ནང་མཆོད། རྡོར་དྲིལ། ཐོད་རྔ། མེ་ཏོག་སོགས་མཁོ་བའི་ཡོ་བྱད་རྣམས་ཚོགས་པར་བྱས་ལ། བདག་གི་རྣལ་འབྱོར་བཟླས་པའི་བར་སྔོན་དུ་འགྲོ་བས། མཆོད་གཏོར་རྣམས།Those wishing to offer tormas to the oath-bound guardians should, in an agreeable location, clean and arrange representations of enlightened forms, such as Avalokiteśvara. Then, in the three torma receptacles place decorated tormas of the lama and yidam inseparably united, the wisdom protector Mahākāla, and the oath-bound terma guardians and local deities, together with the medicinal nectar (men), rakta, and seven offering bowls. Place in front of yourself the inner offe-rings, vajra and bell, skulldrum, flowers and all the necessary articles. Having practised the self yoga as a preliminary, purify the offerings and tormas with raṃ, yaṃ and khaṃ and then recite the following:

རཾ་ཡཾ་ཁཾ་གྱིས་བསང་སྦྱང།RAM YAM KHAM // Thus cleanse.

སྟོང་པའི་ངང་ལས་ཡྂ་ལས་རླུང་རྂ་ལས་མེ་ཁྂ་ལས་མི་མགོའི་སྒྱེད་པུ་གསུམ་ལ་བརྟེན་པའི་TONG PA’I NGANG LE YAM LE LUNG RAM LE ME KHAM LE MI GO’I GYE PU SUM LA TEN PA’I

Raṃ yaṃ khaṃ! From the state of emptiness, out of YAM there arises wind, out of RAM there arises fire, and out of KHAM there appears a tripod of three human skulls.

Hūṃ! Great samaya-bound protectors of the teachings of all the buddhas of the past, present and future.

Together with your consorts, retinue, and attendants, come here, I pray, and gladly take your places.

ཛཿཧཱུཾ་བཾ་ཧོཿ ས་མ་ཡ་ཨཱ་ས་ན་ཏིཥྛནྟུ།DZA HUM BAM HO / SAMAYA ASANA TISHTHANTU //

མགོན་པོ་སོགས་དམ་ཅན་ལྕམ་དྲལ་བཀའ་སྡོད་འཁོར་དང་བཅས་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་GÖN PO SOG DAM CHÄN CHAM DRAL KA DÖ KHOR DANG CHE PA THAM CHÄprotectors and oath-bound guardians, together with their consorts, retinues and attendants.

རང་བཞིན་ཆོས་ཀྱི་དབྱིངས་ལས་སྒྱུ་འཕྲུལ་གྱི་རོལ་པ་ཞི་ཁྲོའི་ཉམས་དུ་མར་འཆར་བ་རྣམ་འཕྲུལ་བསམ་གྱིས་RANG ZHIN CHÖ KYI YING LE GYU THRUL GYI RÖL PA ZHI THRO’I NYAM DU MAR CHAR WA NAM THRUL SAM GYI

They arise out of the dharmadhātu, and appear in a display of magical forms, some peaceful, some wrathful. They all gather in the sky before me,

མི་ཁྱབ་པའི་བཀོད་པ་ཆེན་པོའི་མདུན་གྱི་ནམ་མཁར་ MI KHYAB PA’I KÖ PA CHEN PO’I DÜN GYI NAM KHAR

in a vast array that defies the imagination.

བཛྲ་ས་མཱ་ཛཿས་སྤྱན་དྲངས་པར་བསམ་ཞིང༌།BADZRA SA MA DZA // Imagine they’re invited by this recitation.

ཅེས་བཞུགས་སུ་གསོལ། སྲུང་མ་རྣམས་ཀྱི་སྤྱི་བོར་རྡོ་རྗེ་བཞག བདུད་རྩི་ལྗགས་ལ་བྱིན་པར་མོས་ཏེ།Consider that vajras are placed on the crowns of the guardians and nectar is placed upon their tongues.

ཨོཾ་བཛྲ་ས་མ་ཡ་ཧ་ན་ཧ་ན་ཧཱུཾ་ཕཊ།OM BADZRA SAMAYA HANA HANA HUM PHAT //

ཞེས་དམ་ལ་བཞགWith this, they are bound to their oaths.

ཧཱུཾ། ཐུན་མོང་ཁྱད་པར་བླ་ན་མེད། །ཕྱི་ནང་གསང་བའི་མཆོད་སྤྲིན་ནི། །HUM – THÜN MONG KHYÄ PAR LA NA ME / CHI NANG SANG WA’I CHÖ TRIN NI /Hūṃ, I emanate both ordinary and unsurpassable gifts, clouds of outer, inner and secret offerings,

དངོས་བཤམས་ཡིད་ལས་བྱུང་བ་དག །ནམ་མཁའ་གང་བར་སྤྲོས་ཏེ་མཆོད། །NGÖN SHAM YI LE JUNG WA DAG / NAM KHA GANG WAR TRÖ TE CHÖ /

Actually arranged and those created by the mind, filling the whole of space—all this I offer.

ཧཱུཾ། ཆོས་དབྱིངས་མཁའ་ལྟར་དག་པའི་དབྱིངས། །མི་གཡོ་འོག་མིན་ཉམས་དགའི་གནས། །རྡོ་རྗེ་གདན་དང་ནཱ་ལེནྡྲ།HUM – CHÖ YING KHA TAR DAG PA’I YING / MI YO OG MIN NYAM GA’I NE / DORJE DÄN DANG NALANDRA /

Hūṃ! From the dharmadhātu, space-like realm of purity, immutable Akaniṣṭha, the realm of joy, the Vajra Seat (Bodhgaya) and Nālandā,

།དུར་ཁྲོད་བརྒྱད་དང་ཉེར་བཞིའི་ཡུལ། །ཕྱོགས་བཅུའི་ཞིང་ཁམས་རབ་འབྱམས་ནས། །དཔལ་ལྡན་མགོན་པོ་ལྕམ་དྲལ་ནི། །DUR THRÖ GYÄ DANG NYER ZHI YUL / CHOG CHU’I ZHING KHAM RAB JAM NE / PAL DÄN GÖN PO CHAM DRAL NI /

the eight charnel grounds and twenty-four sacred places, and all the infinite pure realms throughout the ten directions, glorious protectors, together with your consorts, retinues,

བཀའ་སྡོད་དམ་ཅན་རྒྱ་མཚོར་བཅས། །བདག་གིས་དད་པས་སྤྱན་འདྲེན་ན། །KA DÖ DAM CHÄN GYA TSHOR CHE / DAG GI DÄ PE CHÄN DREN NA /

Attendants and all you oath-bound guardians in this ocean-like gathering, when I invite you here, through the force of my faith,

སྔོན་གྱི་ཞལ་བཞེས་དམ་བཅས་ལྟར། །བསྟན་པ་བསྲུང་ཕྱིར་གཤེགས་སུ་གསོལ། །NGÖN GYI ZHAL ZHE DAM CHE TAR / TÄN PA SUNG CHIR SHEG SU SÖL /As in the solemn oaths you took in the past, come now, to protect the teachings, I pray!

ལྷ་རྣམས་ཀྱི་ལྗགས་ཧཱུཾ་ལས་བྱུང་བའི་རྡོ་རྗེ་སྦུ་གུ་ཅན་གྱི་འོད་ཟེར་གྱིས་གཏོར་མའི་བཅུད་དྲངས་ཏེ་གསོལ་བར་བསམ་ལ་རྡོར་ཐལ་ཁ་གྱེན་དུ་ཕྱེ་ནས།LHA NAM KYI JAG HUM LE JUNG WA’I DORJE BU GU CHÄN GYI Ö ZER GYI TOR MA’I CHÜ DRANG TE SÖL WAR GYUR //

The deities send out rays of light from the hollow vajra tubes arising from HUM in their tongues of the deities, collect the essence of the tormas and consume them. Consider this and open upwards the vajra palms mudrā.

May all trouble caused by unruly demonic influence and enemies be pacified, may we accomplish all manner of enlightened activity, on a scale as vast as the ocean,

ཕྱོགས་ལས་རྣམ་པར་རྒྱལ་བའི་རུ་མཚོན་ཕྱོར། །བྱང་ཆུབ་བར་དུ་སྲུང་ཞིང་སྐྱོང་བར་མཛོད། །CHOG LE NAM PAR GYAL WA’I RU TSHÖN CHIR / JANG CHUB BAR DU SUNG ZHING KYONG WAR DZÖ //

Hold aloft the banner of victory over all opponents, and may you guard and protect us until we reach enlightenment.

ཅེས་གཏོར་སྟོབ་ཅིང་འདོད་དོན་གསོལ་ལོ། །With this, offer the torma and request the fulfilment of wishes.

ཡང་ན་འབྲུ་གསུམ་གྱིས་བྱིན་བརླབས་དང་སྔགས་མཆོད་སྔོན་དུ་འགྲོ་བས།Alternatively, after blessing with the three seed syllables and the offering mantras recite the following:

Together with your consort and retinue, attendants, and an ocean-like gathering of oath-bound guardians, through the force of your commitments, come now to this place!

Now just as you swore an oath to in the past in the presence of the glorious Heruka.

མ་རྙེད་ཡོངས་སུ་མ་ཚང་དང་། གང་ཡང་ནུས་པ་མ་མཆིས་པས། MA NYE YONG SU MA TSHANG DANG / GANG YANG NÜ PA MA CHI PE /

Anything I did not accomplish or complete, and anything I was unable to do,

།དམ་ཚིག་ཅན་གྱིས་བདག་ལ་སྲུངས། །དངོས་གྲུབ་ཀུན་གྱི་སྟོངས་གྲོགས་མཛོད།DAM TSHIG CHEN GYI DAG LA SUNG / NGÖ DRUB KÜN GYI TONG DROG DZÖ /

Samaya-bound ones, guard me, be a support for all the accomplishments,

Eliminate untimely death and disease, obstructing forces and obstacle-makers,

Eliminate bad dreams and evil omens, and all forms of negative action.

Remain here, one with these images and objects, until saṃsāra comes to an end;

You annihilate those who do evil, together with all their supporters, glorious Mahākāla, blazing in wrath, make everything auspicious!

སང་རྒྱས་ཡུལ་དུ་གཤེགས་ནས་ཀྱང་། སླར་ཡང་འབྱོན་པར་མཛད་དུ་གསོལ།SANG GYE YÜL DU SHEG NE KYANG / LAR YANG JÖN PAR DZÄ DU SÖL //

Even though you now return to your buddha realm, in the future, please come again!

བཛར་མུཿBADZRA MU //

ས་ཡེ་ཤེས་པ་གཤེགས། དམ་ཚིག་པ་བདག་ལ་བསྟིམ།With this, the jñānasattva departs, and the samayasattva dissolves into you.

འཇིག་རྟེན་པ་རྣམས་ The worldly deities are sent back withགཙྪ་གཙྪ་སྭ་བྷཱ་ཝཱ་ནཾ།

With the four activities, you protect the teachings – ocean of oath-bound guardians, make everything auspicious!

ཅེས་སོགས་བཀྲ་ཤིས་བརྗོད་པར་བྱའོ། །Recite this and utter more auspicious prayers.

དམ་ཅན་སྤྱིའི་གཏོར་མའི་ཆོ་ག་ཉུང་ངུར་བསྡུས་པ་འདི་ནི་རྒྱུན་གྱི་ཉམས་ལེན་ལ་འཇུག་པ་བདེ་བའི་ཕྱིར་རིག་པ་འཛིན་པ་འགྱུར་མེད་རྡོ་རྗེས་ལྷ་གདན་གྲུ་འཛིན་གྱི་རི་བོར་སྦྱར་བའོ།། །།This brief practice of offering torma to the oath-bound guardians (Damchen Chitor) was composed for convenient daily practice by the vidyādhara Gyurme Dorjé at the Potala hill in Lhasa.
