Kap Verde (amtlich deutsch: Republik Cabo Verde, portugiesisch Cabo Verde ist ein afrikanischer Inselstaat, bestehend aus den kapverdischen Inseln mit neun bewohnten Inseln im Zentralatlantik, 460 Kilometer vor der Westküste Afrikas. Der Archipel hat eine Landfläche von 4033 km² und etwa 516.000 Einwohner. Die Hauptstadt der kleinen Inselrepublik ist Praia. Die Republik Kap Verde liegt im Zentralatlantik vor der Westküste Afrikas. Die Inselgruppe besteht aus 15 Inseln, von denen neun bewohnt sind. Es wird unterschieden zwischen den Inseln über dem Wind (Ilhas de Barlavento) und den Inseln unter dem Wind (Ilhas de Sotavento). Die Inseln über dem Wind sind Santo Antão, São Vicente, São Nicolau, Sal, Boa Vista und die unbewohnten Inseln Santa Luzia, Branco und Raso. Zur Sotavento-Gruppe gehören Maio, Santiago, Fogo und Brava sowie die unbewohnte Inselgruppe der Ilhéus do Rombo.

Cape Verde (Portuguese: Cabo Verde, officially the Republic of Cape Verde, is an island country spanning an archipelago of 10 volcanic islands in the central Atlantic Ocean. Located 570 kilometres (350 miles) off the coast of Western Africa, the islands cover a combined area of slightly over 4,000 square kilometres (1,500 sq mi). Three (Sal, Boa Vista and Maio) are fairly flat, sandy and dry; the others generally rockier with more vegetation.Historically, the name “Cape Verde” has been used in English for the archipelago and, since independence, for the country. In 2013, the Cape Verdean government determined that the Portuguese designation “Cabo Verde” would henceforth be used for official purposes, such as at the United Nations, even in English contexts.
