1. 1. Togo ist ein Staat in Westafrika, am Golf von Guinea gelegen, und grenzt an Ghana im Westen, Benin im Osten und Burkina Faso im Norden. Hauptstadt und Regierungssitz ist Lom. Von 1884 bis 1916 wardas Gebiet Togos eine deutsche Kolonie (Deutsche Kolonie Togo), danach Mandatsgebiet des Vlkerbunds bzw.Treuhandgebiet der Vereinten Nationen unter franzsischer Verwaltung. Geprgt wurde das Land fast 40 Jahre lang vom autokratisch regierenden Prsidenten Gnassingb Eyadma. Nach dessen Tod 2005 wurdesein Sohn FaureGnassingb unter Missachtung der Verfassung von der togoischen Armee zum neuen Prsidenten ernannt. Internationaler Druck und Unruhen im Lande fhrten nicht zurRckkehr verfassungsgemer Zustnde. Die folgenden Wahlen konnte Gnassingb fr sich entscheiden, wobei ihm die Opposition und auch die Europische Union massiven Wahlbetrug vorwarfen. Nach wie vorbefinden sich mehrere tausend Flchtlinge im Ausland.
