Title/name: Professor Åsa Mäkitalo Affiliation: Department of Education, Communication and Learning University of Gothenburg, Sweden Email: [email protected] Åsa Mäkitalo, is Professor of Education at the University of Gothenburg. Mäkitalo specializes in research on institutional communication, technologies and learning from a sociocultural and dialogical perspective. Her research concerns what it implies to appropriate, collectively maintain, and develop institutional forms of knowing. She received her PhD in 2002 with a dissertation on institutional communication and organisation of vocational guidance in public employment agencies. In 2004, Mäkitalo was assigned as an expert by the European Commission, assessing applications for Erasmus Thematic Networks and Erasmus Mundus Programmes. In 2005 she received the title of Associate Professor of Education. She was assigned as an expert by the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education in the spring of 2006 and was a visiting scholar at the Department of Education at Cambridge University in the autumn of 2006. Mäkitalo received the title of Professor of Education in 2011, she is the main supervisor of one PhD, and currently supervise six ongoing PhD projects. Mäkitalo has been a member of four appointment committees and seven PhD committees. She has been appointed as faculty opponent seven times (in Sweden and Norway), been invited discussant at final thesis seminars five times, and has served as pre-examiner of 10 final PhD manuscripts. She is currently also Chair of one evaluation panels within the Educational sciences at the Swedish Research Council. Åsa Mäkitalo is currently Co-director of LinCS, The Linnaeus Centre for Research on Learning, Interaction and Mediated Communication in Contemporary Society (2007- cont.). LinCS is a national centre of excellence at the University of Gothenburg dedicated to empirical research on learning and interaction (http://www.lincs.gu.se). Mäkitalo is in the co-ordination group for NordLearn (Nordic Centre for Research on Learning and Media) and NorLAC (Nordic network for Learning Across Contexts) funded by NordForsk. Since 2010 Mäkitalo is also Head of the LETStudio (www.letstudio.gu.se), a strategic initiative of The University of Gothenburg conducting interdisciplinary research on issues of learning, communication and transformation of knowledge in society.
