Eden Saul est le shaper est fondateur de Dead Kooks Surfboards. Eden est né, a grandit et vie à Lennox Head dans le nord du New South Wales en Australie.Grandir sur la côte est de l’Australie lui a permi de surfer quelques uns des meilleurs point break de droites au monde. Ce qui lui a permit de tester, développer et améliorer ses shapes et de créer Dead Kooks.

Eden a d’abord shapé une dizaine d’année dans son jardin, comme passe temps pour lui et ses amis, avant de créer la marque Dead Kooks et d’en vivre.Eden puise son inspiration dans les vieux modèles mais aussi aussi autour de ses amis et surfers pros qu’il côtoie. Mais les Dead Kooks n’ont rien de retro, toutes ses planches sont faites avec un objectif de performance, du glider 12’, au gun pour Jaws, au longboards, fish et single fin.

Ces dernières années Eden a eu la chance de voyager autour du monde pour shaper et surfer et c’est pour lui un nouvel art de vivre.

Eden Saul, owner and shaper of Dead Kooks Surfboards.Born and raised in Lennox Head on the Far North Coast of New South Wales (Australia), a place I still call home. Growing up and living on the East Coast of Australia has provided a bevy of right hand points to test, play with and refine what I’ve been riding and shaping and has greatly influenced what a Dead Kooks board is all about.

Dead Kooks Surfboards has evolved over the past 9-10 years from a backyard hobby making boards for myself and friends, to a full-time job working with world champions and a string of worlds top surfers. Drawing inspiration from shapes of old, the boards we make are anything but retro. Everything is designed, shaped and futher refiend with perfromance in mind, tackling everything from 12ft gliders, paddle guns for Jaws to refined modern logs, fish, singles and shorties.

Over the past years I’ve been lucky enough to travel the world shaping and surfing and doing what I love, and as long as people are stoked and I’m excited, I’ll keep doing that for as long as my body and mind allows.

MADBALL

La Madball est un shortboard thruster des années 90, avec un outline large mais au swallow tail resserré grâces aux flyers.Le rocker est aplati au centre avec un kick notable au nose. Le volume est généreux grâce au flat deck.Le bottom a un léger simple vers un profond double concave et vee au tail qui génère du lift et un petit extra de maniabilité.Elle est parfaite de hauteur de genou à au dessus de la tête.Disponible de 5’2’’ à 6’4’’

The Madball is a little 90’s throwback thruster.With a wider outline pulled in with a flyer to a tight swallow. The rocker is flattened through the center with a noticeable kick in the nose.The flat deck carries plenty of foam and the bottom has a soft single to deep double concave following to Vee off the tail to lift the rail line and provide a bunch of squirt.Finds itself best suited in waves from knee height to well overhead. Available from 5’2’’ – 6’4’’.

GRAVELPIT

La Gravelpit est une shortboard confortable, au rocker plat. Le point large est centré mais reste bien marqué du nose au tail pour garder de la vitesse. La Gravelpit est une planche à surfer ‘’rail to rail’’. La largeur au tail garde la planche loose, et l’outline parallèle lui donne de l’accroche dans les sections creuses. Le pont plat offre un bon volume et lui permet d’être surfée assez courte. Le bottom shape a un léger simple concave vers vee au tail qui donne du lift. La Gravelpit est principalement un shortboard compact avec un esprit rétro qui doit être surfé avec des petites dérives dans des petites à moyennes vagues.Idéale entre 5’3’’ et 6’3’’

The Gravelpit, inspired by the bouncy fun vibes of shaping to Wu-Tang, is a low rocker, high volume, flat deck shortboard. Wide point centered and carrying width through a little fuller nose and wide rounded diamond tail to keep a straighter outline through the middle and carry speed through fast wraps and rail to rail surfing.The width in the back end keeps it loose and the continuous curve of the outline helps it fit in critical sections.The flat deck carries foam throughout and allows it to be surfed rather short, the bottom has a soft single to Vee out the back to lift the rail line. Essentially a compact Shorts with some retro feel, built to be surfed with small fins, the Gravelpit is built to perform in waves up to head high.Best from 5’3’’-6’3’’ rider 8’10’’ – 10’2’’

WHITE HEART

La White Heart est un egg performance. Il a un nose étroit, un tail tendu et un rocker plat pour surfer profond dans la poche et pour des virages rapides dans la face de la vague.Le point large avancé aide à prendre de la vitesse alors que le tail étroit donne de l’accroche et de la sécurité dans les sections critiques.La White Heart a un léger vee au nose vers un simple concave doux. La White Heart est une très bonne planche performante polyvalente pour surfer de hauteur de genoux à hauteur de tête.Idéale entre 5’2’’ et 6’2’’

A performance focused, high volume little nugget, the WHITE HEART takes its basic outline from the Stubby(quad), the nose is pulled in and tail tucked a little further. A flat rocker with a little kick in the nose, continual curve in the plan shape allows for super critical surfing tight in the pocket and fast wraps on the open face. The wide point pushed forward helps carry speed and volume under your chest, while the tucked tail gives you hold and security when you need it. A subtle Vee in the front with soft single most of the way helps push this little baby along. A great option for those looking for a performance board for an array of conditions, from knee high to solid reef breaks, you won’t be found out. Best ordered from 5’2’’-6’2’’

GHOSTFIRE

La Ghost Fire est une version moderne et affinée des twins classiques.Elle a un rocker plat, avec un rolled vee au nose vers un simple concave et vee marqué au tail avec des rails fins pincés pour générer du lift. La Ghostfire a un bon volume sous le torse pour un maximum de confort de rame. Les dérives sont reculées en accord avec le tail resserré et le petit swallow tail.La Ghostfire est rapide et loose, son outline et rocker plat lui donne une vitesse folle et permet de prendre des trajectoires inédites avec des virages serrés.Elle se surf en twin avec ou sans dérive stabilisatrice, de 5’4’’ à 6’6’’.

A slimmed down and refined twinny, the Ghostfire, is the newest member in the DK lineup. A flattened rocker with gentle nose flip, soft rolled entry blending to a soft single with lots of Vee out the back end to lift the rail line and provide a tight pinches back edge. Foam packed under the chest for plenty of paddle power and drive from up the board, the fins are shifted back to work with the pulled in tail outline and tight swallow. Surfed fast and loose, the outline and rocker with the low resistance twin set-up will have you moving at crazy speed, taking new lines and wrapping super tight arcs.Available with a small center stabilizer for added control under pressure and sized from 5’4’’-6’6’’.

RICHES QD

La Riches Quad est une version performante du Twin. Elle a un double concave vers vee qui répartie l’eau vers les dérives, avec un edge plus marqué et des rails plus bas. Elle garde un rocker plat et la même répartition des volumes avec un léger flat deck. La Riches Quad est un fish performance rapide et très maniable au tail, il conserve la conduite du twin mais le quad aide a casser les courbes plus rapidement. Idéal de 5’0’’ à 6’6’’.

Carrying on from the Riches, the Quad holds a similar form with a more performance twist.A Double concave to Vee splits the water through the quad fin setup, with a more defined edge in the tail and lower rail line. Still keeping the flatten rocker and foam distribution with a relatively flat deck. The Riches Quad is a performance based fish, the wide flat planshape generates and maintains speed with easy, is quick and lively off the tail, holds tight on rail through crisp arcs and releases nicely through the lip. RICHES TW

Le Riches TW est la version de Dead Kooks du traditionnel Twin Keel Fish.Le nose et le tail garde du volume mais sont plus étroits que le fish traditionnel ce qui lui donne cet outline aux courbes bien arrondies. Le rocker est plat et les rails sont assez neutres avec un edge au tail, avec un bottom shape plat vers un simple concave à partir du centre vers le tail.La Riches est faite pour un surf en bas de vague avec de longues courbes fluides, elle a une très bonne conduite et tout le fun d’un fish twin fin. Elle est se surf idéalement de 5’0’’ à 6’6’’.

The Riches is our refined version of the keel-fin fish, The nose and tail carry some width but still pulled in more than the traditional fish to create a nice continuous curve in the outline.Low rocker, a mostly neutral rail with tucked hard edge in the back and a flat bottom to single behind center point to out the tail. Suited to smooth drawn out turns, carrying speed down the line with a crisp release off the top, the Riches has plenty of drive and all the fun and jive of a twin fish.For the big fish lovers there is the Riches Royal.Available in a range of lengths from 5’0’’ – 6’6’’.

STUBBY

La Stubby est une version moderne des hulls et autres planches de la période Wilderness. La Stubby a des rails pincés fins et hull bottom au nose, qui deviennent plus doux au centre puis fins au tail.Il a un léger double concave puis vee sous le pied arrière, ce qui lui donne plus d’accroche et plus de facilité dans les virages. Le rocker est plat avec un point large et une répartition des volumes sur l’avant. Le Stubby se surf sur l’avant pour un style fluide, loose et des transitions rapides en bas et haut de vague. Mais elle peut être attaquée pied arrière pour des virages plus agressifs ou se caler sous la lèvre. Idéalement de 5’6 à 7’6.

A modern re-do of the Stubby shapes of old by the likes of Wilderness et al.The Stubby has a foiled hull entry to neutral rails to soft tucked down rail in the tail. A soft double under the back foot into Vee provides more drive and a familiar reliability to drive hard through turns. A flat rocker with wide point and volume pushed forward under the chest. The Stubby can be surfed forward for a super loose feeling, down the line speed and flowing high lines, yet shifting to the tail it can be pushed hard through tight arcs and put high into the lip. Best ridden from 5’6’’-7’6’’.

SNAPBACK

Inspirée d’un shortboard performance, la Snapback est un quad ou single de bonnes vagues. Le nose est large avec un rocker baissé et une taille compact pour surfer dans la poche . Le rocker est reculé jusq’au point large, sous le buste. Le tail est resserré en un round pin tail pour une meilleur accroche et contrôle.La Snapback doit être surfée avec plus de volume qu’un shortboard traditionnel.C’est la planche idéale pour les belles vagues, avec une très bonne rame, de la vitesse et du contrôle dans le tube.

Designed as a more traditional performance style board, the Snapback is a quad-fin (or singlefin) step-up, with many of the trappings of a modern Shorts.The fuller nose reduces rocker and cuts length for tight surfing under the lip. The high point in the rocker is shifted forward to meet the wide point in the template under the chest, the tail pulled in to a rounded pin for greater hold and control mixed with subtle bottom contours. The Snapback should be ridden with a hint more volume than your standard Shorts. This has been my go-to performance board in quality waves, with plenty of paddle power, speed of the mark and control in the tube. The straighter outline and fuller nose allows surfing from further up the board when you really want to drive it.This is my go-to performance board in fast hollow waves and good Kirra days.

SPEEDHULL

La Speed Hull est un mixe de la Riches Royal et de la Stubby. Elle est faite pour la vitesse en bas de vagues, la glisse légère est fluide.La Speed Hull est une version accessible des hulls traditionnels, elle est facile a surfer et peut se surfer dans toutes les conditions.Le Rocker est plat avec un léger rolled vee au nose vers un panel vee au tail. Les rails sont moyens et affinés là où il faut ! La Speed Hull est un mid-lenght polyvalent pour surfer des vagues moyennes à grosses. Idéalement de 6’6’’ à 8’0’’

Taking cues from the Riches Royal and the Stubby, The SpeedHull is one of the newest models. Built for down the line speed, tight trim and loose surfing, it’s a much more manage take on the hull concept making it super user friendly and well at home in a vast array of conditions.Low rocker with soft rolled entry, with a rolled to panel Vee bottom and mid rail keeping foam under the chest and filed out where its not needed. A highly versatile mid-length that works from waist high to well overhead.Available from 6’6’’-8’0’

C’est une planche performante dans beaucoup de conditions, elle peut se surfer de hauteur de genoux à deux fois hauteur de tête. Elle est faite pour un surf sur l’avant, des trajectoires hautes et des belles courbes resserrées.Elle est parfaite dans les vagues creuses grâce à son pin tail qui donne de la confiance. Idéalement de 6’1’’ à 7’6’’

SALTY

La Salty est un egg « speed shape » conçu pour la vitesse, les belles courbes et lignes fluides.Il est assez tendu au nose et au tail pour le contrôle avec un bon volume sous le torse pour le confort. La Salty marche aussi bien dans du petit surf mou que dans des grosses vagues.La Salty est une des planches favorites de Devon Howard connu pour son aptitude à rider des eggs avec un style fluide et sans effort.N’ayez pas peur de son gros volume ! The Salty is a mid-length eggy speed shape designed for speed, trim and smooth flowing lines. Pulled tight at each end for control with plenty of meat in the chest, the Salty is more than happy in small slop to well over head waves of consequence.Drawing influence from the egg’s Devon Howard can be seen riding with such effortless flow and style, the smooth clean lines at speed and trim that these boards crave.Don’t be afraid of the extra foam and length, as it’s truly your friend. MERCH PIN AND MERCHANT SHIPLa Merch Pin est le pro modèle du team rider Lachlan Leckie fondateur de The Salty Merchants. La Merch Pin est né du désir de surfer vite, loose et extrême. Faite pour rester sur une trajectoire haute et profond dans la poche sur un longboard, la Merch Pin est idéale dans les vagues puissantes et creuses. Le bottom shape a un léger rolled nose, vers un panel vee, pour un rocker équilibre et des rails bas et fins, qui donnent a la planche beaucoup de réponse et de maniabilité. C’est un longboard qui permet un surf fluide, qui donne l’impression d’être plus courte quelle n’est, capable de noseride dans les sections critiques de la vague et qui génère énormément de vitesse en bas de vague. TWO STEP

La Tow Step est le pro modèle d’Erin Aswhley aussi connue sous le nom de « WormTown ». La Tow Step est un pure noserider qui reste joueur, il représente le rêve Californien aussi à l’aise dans les vagues pourries que dans les longues vagues de pointe. Il a un rocker continu et équilibré, avec un bottom shape plat qui génère de la stabilité et de la vitesse. La Tow Step a un double sted deck au nose et au tail qui donne du flex et permet un surf et des noserides précis pour se caler au meilleur endroit de la vague. Le tail large donne plus de stabilité et d’accroche en noseride tout en restant fluide et loose dans les courbes. Idéalement de 8’10’’ à 10’

Designed with Erin Ashley aka Wormtown, the TwoStep is our newest longboard model. Built with critical noserides and a whole lot of jive in mind, the TwoStep is a Californian dream, just as comfortable on a crappy beachbreak and as a long running point. A continuous equal rocker gives a nice balanced feel, while the flatter bottom provides stability and running speed. The blended double stepdeck adds flex and gives a responsive feel up front for adjustments on the tip in tight spots, with the wider pod in the rear providing extra hold on the front and keeps it nice and loose in the rear. RICHES ROYAL

Le Riches Royal est une version étirée du fish pour surfer des vagues toutes petites à plus de 3m. La ligne de rail est droite, ce qui génère une très bonne glisse et de la vitesse sans effort.Le rocker est plat mais équilibré grâce à un léger kick au nose et un vee au tail. Les rails sont pincés et calent la planche sur des longues trajectoires.Elle se surf en twin ou en quad dans une taille de 7’0 à 11’.

The Riches Royal is a stretched out fish template to be surfed from 2-10ft. A straightened rail line creates a beautiful sense of trim, while building and carrying speed with ease. A flat rocker combined with some modest flip in the nose and Vee in the back end, give a nice balance to the profile. The pinched rail locks the board in and creates drive from the long, straight rail line. Available as a twin or quad fin setup.The Riches Royal can be ridden from 7’0’’ – 11’

GLIDER

La Glider est un Glider ! Une planche faite pour le plaisir de la glisse, des longues trajectoires fluides et rapides. Elle un nose étroit et un pintail, avec une ligne de rails droites qui génèrent beaucoup de vitesse et d’accroche. Les rails sont pincés sur l’ensemble de la planche mais restent doux au tail. Le bottom shape est plat avec un léger rolled vee au tail. L’accroche et la glisse générée par 10’ de rails procurent des sensations incroyables. Elle peut être surfée de tout petit à gros selon vos dérives ! Idéalement de 9’9 à 12’1

The Glider is exactly that, a board built for the joy of the glide, enjoying trim, smooth, fast lines and drawn out turns. A tucked nose and pintail with relatively straight rail line provides incredible speed and hold. A pinched rail most of the way to a soft down rail in the back end, the bottom is most flat with subtle roll and a touch of Vee in tail. The drive from 10 or more foot of rail locked on edge is immense as it projects down the line. Can be surfed from shin height to well overhead depending on your desires.Available from 9’9’’-12’1’’.

DEVO

La Devo est le longboard polyvalent de Dead Kooks.C’est un longboard équilibré dans tous les sens du terme. Le point large est pile au centre, les rails sont 50’50, il a un léger concave au nose mélangé à léger rolled vee, ce qui donne beaucoup de contrôle en noseride et de maniabilité.La Devo est une planche a surfer sur toute sa longueur en glisse ou sur des trajectoires hautes, maniable au tail et stable en noseride. Idéalement de 9’0 à 10’2

This is our all-rounder.A well-balanced log in every sense. Wide point dead center and 50/50 rail line. Subtle nose concave combines with a soft roll to paneled V down the way for plenty of control on the nose and wiggle when you want it.The Devo Encourages surfing the entire board, highlines, tight arcs and long nose-rides.Can be ridden from 9’0 to 10’2.

NEW WAVE

Le New Wave est le longboard le plus orienté noserider chez Dead Kooks.C’est une interprétation, modernisée du célèbre David Nuuhiwaa Noserider. Il garde le même rocker, un profond concave au nose, un bottom shape plat avec un léger roll au tail.Le tail et le nose sont larges, avec un outline parallèle pour la stabilité et le contrôle en noseride. Il est parfait pour les petites à moyennes vagues plates et reste très agréable sur les vagues de pointe plus creuses. Idéalement de 9’0 à 10’2

The more dedicated nose rider of the bunch.The New-Wave is a revised and refined tip of the hat to the classic Bing Nuuhiwa. Using that classic rocker as a jump off point, the New-Wave has a deep nose concave to flat panel and soft roll in the back end. A wide nose and tail block create the more parallel plan shape, resulting in stability and responsive surfing from the tip. Well suited for flatter faced waves, summer slop but very much at home on a long point.Available from 9’0- 10’2.

NAUSEA

Désigné par Lachlan Leckie, le génie fou qui se trouve derrière la marque d’ailerons the Salty Merchants Fins et plein d’autres ailerons. Le Nausea est un mélange d’ancien et de nouveau, une vrai bête sauvage. Plus étroit à l’avant, avec une deuxième partie de planche plus large jusqu’au tucked tail. Son Low entry rocker se finit par un kick rocker sur le tail. Son nose plat enchaîné sur des rails rolls + belly qui se finit en V sur l’arrière offre vitesse et stabilité. C’est tout simplement mon modèle préféré. Très confortable dans les vagues creuses et courtes comme dans les vagues longues... vous aimerez surfer cette planche dans toutes les conditions. Loose et sauvage sur l’arrière, rapide sur le milieu et stable sur le nose.Parfaite de 9’0’’-10’2’’.

Designed with Lachlan Leckie, the mad genius behind Salty Merchants Fins and all-round shredder. The Nausea is a blend of old and new, a real wild beast. Narrow through the front, low hips to a tucked tail. Low entry rocker with aplenty of kick in the backend. Flat panel nose entry that rolls off the rail through the front 1/3 for speed and stability extending down the board into belly roll and a touch of V out the tail. This is my personal favourite model and go to daily whip.Very comfortable in tight hollow point waves and short beachies, loves to be surfed from all over the board. Loose and wild off the tail, fast through the middle and holds tight on the nose.Can be ridden from 9’0-10’2.
