THE TERRIBLE TOM

Luke and Lisa say hello to all the pirates. They are very nice.

“Hello, Lisa,” says a pirate with a scar on his face. “How are you? I am Pit.”

“Hello, Pit. I am fi ne, thank you.”

“I have got a brother, his name is Pat,” says Pit. “Look! He is the pirate with very

long hair and a ring in his nose.”

“And who is the pirate with the long nose and big ears?” asks Luke.

“That is Pig.”

At night, Lisa and Luke wake up. There is another pirate. He is

white like a ghost. He has a wooden leg and only one hand.

“I am the Terrible Tom!” he says. “I don’t like children. I bite off

their toes and eat their feet.”

“Go away!” shouts Luke.

“No! I will throw you into the water.”

The Terrible Tom touches Luke with his cold

hand.

Lisa hits him. But the Terrible Tom carries

Luke away.

“Help, pirates, help!” shouts Lisa. The Terrible

Tom pulls Lisa to the water, too.

Then Paula comes. “Go away, Tom!” she shouts. She looks very

angry. Her red hair is like fi re and her blue eyes are like the sea.

The Terrible Tom runs away. Luke and Lisa are safe!
