UPANDCOMING Pietermaritzburgbasedartists’ manager and promoter Lungile Dubeneeds public votes following her twonominations for the Independent NationalGospel Awards, otherwise known as IngomaAwards, to be held on 16 May at the StateTheatre in Gauteng at 5.30pm.

The awards target the entertainmentand media industry, and Dube has beennominated for best media personality andbest gospel promoter award.

Born in the rural Mpangeni, Dube said shehas always liked music and is currently managing Sandile Khawula who recentlyreleased an album titled IsimangaSomuntu. Khawula is also this year’s nominee for the Ingoma Awards in the bestproducer and best sound engineer for the album categories.

She is also managing Isaiah Mbonambi

who became the 2014best newcomer at theSouth AfricanVolunteer Awards.

“I am also assistingupcomingartistssuchasNqobile Mbandlwa, the2015 nominee for theIngoma Awards for best streetpromo artist, Themba Gumede, MluNdwalane and Mthoko Nkosi.

“On the side of professional documentation I have worked with doing proposals, profiles and a biography for Sgwili Zuma, agospel artist, Thulani Gah Ndlela, kwaitoartist Msawawa Dlamini, UMgungundlovuFM radio personality Trevor Phoswa and poet Mxolisi Ntobeko Mtshali, to name a few.”

She started off as an artists’ promoterin 2012 in Johannesburg. She holds a B.Comdegree in IT from the University of KwaZuluNatal and also works as a business analyst.

“Being a nominee for the Ingoma Awardsmeans a lot to me and my team. The industry is mainly maledominated and I amproud that I have been able to make mymark.”

Dube said the road has been tough butshe manages to carry on.

“Sometimes I takethe artists to events and

due to unforeseencircumstances they end up

not performing. Being a promoteris challenging as you have to make sure youget events that can help the artist put foodon his or her table,” she said.

Her motivation is radio personality andentrepreneur, Sibusiso Leope, known as DJSbu.

“I look up to DJ Sbu. He has passion forwhat he does and does not look down onpeople.

“There are many things that musiciansare not aware of when it comes to takingtheir music to the next level. It is not onlyabout releasing albums and singing onstage.”

To vote for Dube in both categories, SMSIngoma best media personality Lungile Dube or Ingoma best gospel promoter LungileDube to 34050.

Residents wantsecurity back

NOMPENDULO NGUBANE>>[email protected]

RESIDENTS of Amethyst Crescent in Copesvillewant municipality security guards back on thestreet as they believe their visibility will deter

electricity cable theft in the area.Last Monday at 3am in Amethyst Crescent a cable

was dug up. In 2013 at the same place a cable wasremoved leaving seven houses without lights, includingstreet lights.

Resident Rhoda Padayachee said seven houses wereaffected when the cable was stolen on Monday. She saidon each occasion when there was criminal activity herdogs would bark.

“They barked and we knew that something wasgoingonoutside.Immediatelyafterthat, thelightswentoff and the entire street was plunged into darkness. Icould see them digging, but there was nothing I coulddo because I was scared.

“I called the police and they told us they are coming, but they never did. Criminals are not scared to commitcrime in this area because they are aware that no onewill stop them. They continue with their operationwithout any worry,” said Padayachee.

The Copesville police station is few metres awayfrom where the incident took place. Resident ThabisileZondo said things were better when there were securityguards patrolling the area.

“Crime was manageable and criminals were awarethere were security guards who patrolled. We areappealing to the municipality to bring back the guards. We are tired of criminals doing as they please in ourspace,” said Zondo.

Ward 29 councillor Thandi Ndlovu was unavailablefor comment at the time of going to press. MsunduziMunicipality acting marketing and communicationsmanager Nqobile Madonda said security guards hadstopped patrolling in the area because of limitedfinancial resources.

She said the municipality will refer the matter to therelevant sections to make a decision. Madonda urgedthe community to report incidents of electricitytheft.

Giving ushope

DRIVING around the city during the pastfew weeks has made me think that gettingback to being the City of Flowers is withinour grasp again.

Thanks and hearty congratulations toMbulaheni Tshivhase and his team forbeautifying the city.

Notable also is the fact that the grass

verges and overgrown bushes were cut andcleared in the Copesville, New Greytownand Ezikethini areas.

Lots still has to be done, but at leastus ratepayers can start to see our moneybeing utilised for services.

Principles ofHinduism mustbe practisedTHE widespread criminal activity and murders in the guise of xenophobia has calledSouth Africans to strive as a nation tospread goodwill and embrace all foreigners. Religious leaders and places of worshiphave a role to play as the recent weeks evidenced.

Amid having a significant part to playmany Hindu places of prayer are themselves fractured and leadership struggleswrapped in egotism is dogged. In manytemples cabals that cannot grab leadership, split the devotee base and move ontostartanotherprayergroupandthiscontinues supported by regional religiousleaders.

Some temples are onefamily dominated and subjected to the will of thewealthy family. In other places, the rich dictate from behind the scenes. Devotees aremade to fill membership forms to managevoting rights and a preferred group to lead.

Against these examples of disunity thebigger picture of national harmony andpeaceful coexistence is going to be difficult. It is long overdue for the core principles of Hinduism to be practised in our dailylives not just preached from the lectern bythe very same persons clinging to power.Hinduism like other religions has a meaningful role to play in the government’s callfor national unity. It is time to abandon thequest for power, shed the ego and strivesincerely to heal a wounded South Africa,we will be spiritually uplifted.

Zwelithini’simbizo,‘aggrandisement’KING Goodwill Zwelithini’simbizo was more of a self-ag-grandisement stunt and a con-cert than about promotingpeace, co-existence and doingdamage control.

After a lengthy silence andstrong criticism during andafter the xenophobic attacks, the imbizo was held to clarifyhis stance on the violentattacks.

The notions that foreignersare “stealing” jobs and that theydon’t have a right to be hereneed to be rectified immediately.

Zwelithini blamed the mediafor misquoting him.

If that was the case, whydidn’t he immediately releasea press statement correctingit?

It does not require an intel-lectual critique of his statementto highlight the explicit intent of

those mutterings and they leaveno room for a misquote.

The words of the king are ex-plicitly clear and harmful to for-eigners.

Moreover, the booing andjeering at non-Zulu priests suchas Ashwin Trikamjee during theimbizo raises serious concernsfor conscience-driven individu-als.

There is an urgent need forall key role players to engage inconstructive dialogue to under-stand the grievances of peopleand communities that mighttempt some to commit hatecrimes like xenophobia and oth-er discriminatory violence inSouth Africa.

THIS ONE DAY SPECIALPRAYER FIXED MY MARRIAGE &

FINANCIAL PROBLEMS6 Years ago my life was a mess. My husband had left me and mychildren were always sick. Luckily I saw a testimony on the localTV station about prayers offered by Professor Osmon. When theyprayed for a divorced lady who united with her husband after 9years of divorce and he was also saved from drugs. I paid R200for consultation with Osmon. They used the mirror and showedme faces of the people who were trying to pull me down. I wasgiven powerful love crystals, Indian ash plus a special ring to fixmy financial problems, within 3 days my husband returned, now Iam happily married, I was promoted at work, I recommend him toanyone who has anyone who has marriage, financial problems andunfinished jobs. Do you want to give birth and feeling helpless, heart broken & financially miserableContact Number: 073 981 2429 Pietermaritzburg up town
