Tech Secretary Branch Executive Vision Statement The Nigerian Society of Engi- neers shall be one of the very best Engineering Profession- al bodies in the World Volume 3, Issue 53 August, 2014 EKET NSE VISITS NYSC CAMP EKET NSE VISITS NYSC CAMP T he Nigerian Society of Engi- neers, visited the NYSC camp at Nsit-Atai L.G.A, on the 20 August 2014, to carry out a sensitization campaign for young engineering graduates to uphold the ethics of the profession in their service year. Leading the NSE team was the coordinator of the Young Engineers Forum of Ni- geria, Eket, Mr. Lawrence Akubue, who informed the young graduates of the need to register with NSE as graduate member during their ser- vice year. They were also enlight- ened about Young Engineers Fo- rum of Nigeria (YEFON) which is an arm of the Nigeria Society of Engineers with a mandate to carter for its young members. The speaker, highlighted that the YE- FoN offers a forum where young professionals can be prepared for the future, pointing out that it is a platform for students and young engineers to come together to dis- cuss professional development and career options. They were in- formed that the forum became necessary because students and graduate from university seeking a satisfying career, are not aware of the benefits a professional society like NSE can provide for them. Mr. Gabriel Okoli, YEFoN Secre- tary, who also addressed the corps members, highlighted the aim of the visit which was to inspire young gradu- ates to develop interest in engineering, and, in doing so, recognize the importance and excitement of engineer- ing as a career. He reiterated on the need to have a forum for Young Engineers to pro- mote and influence engineer- ing development in all its ramifications in Nigeria, as well as to promote the ex- change of ideas and engi- neering knowledge. The corps members were ex- pected in turn to get to regis- ter as graduate members of NSE and also to join their respective engineering sub- divisions. T he Nigerian Society of Engi-

neers, visited the NYSC camp at Nsit-Atai L.G.A, on

was spelt, laying emphasis on graduate mem-bership. The corps member were given the op-

portunity to raise vital issues as regards the

challenges they face as young professionals, which borders on the employment rate and pro-

fessional development. They also made certain

demands regarding their welfare, requesting for more guidance on registration. They also de-

manded for NYSC placement that is based on

profession, calling for more technical training

for graduate members to prepare them for the job market, as well as establishing a job desk

for them. The idea of Job creation through the

Engineering Innovation Initiatives was also an-nounced as one among numerous benefits that

NSE can offer. The NSE who acknowledged

these challenges assured them that the issues

raised would be appropriately reported to the NSE for onward review. They were advised to

join any of the three available NSE branches in

Akwa Ibom State namely: Uyo, Eket and Ikot Abasi, depending on Local Government they

would be posted, for the primary assignment A

total of two hundred and forty five (245) corps members were sensitized in the event. Among

the YEFoN executives who assisted in the sen-

sitization were Mr. Lawrence Akubue ( YEFoN Coordinator) Mr. Ubong Edukere (Asst. Coordi-

nator), Mr. Gabriel Okoli (General Secretary)

Mr. William Udo (Financial Secretary), Mr. Nduenso Akpanam (Treasurer), Ms Enobong

Umana (Publicity Secretary)
