But du projet : tester la plate-forme(installation, utilisation, enrichissement,

etc.)

Tester l’utilisation de la plate-forme

The OI framework enables to quickly explore different interaction possibilities. It allows multimodal user interfaces to be created more quickly, enabling rapid prototypingand therefore more iterations as part of an iterative design methodfor achieving usable multimodal user interfaces.

The OpenInterface (OI)project is dedicated to multimodal interaction (post-WIMP).

Experimental Comparison of Novice Mode Efficiency

Controlled experiment

to compare the efficiency of the• Multi-Stroke (MS), • Compound-Stroke (CS), • Wave (WM) and • Inverted Wave (WM2) menus in novice mode.

Hypotheses:

• H1: Multi-Stroke (MS) menus are slowerthan Compound-Stroke (CS) menus in novice mode as they do not provideprevisualization and visible path availability.• H2: Wave menus and CS menus have similar performance in novice mode.• H3: Wave menus have similar performance to their “Inverted” variant: the order of the hierarchy does not matter.• H4: There is no significant effect on the number of errors and the number of misseditems between menu techniques.

Results : Compound-stroke marking menus and Wave menus are significantly faster(18%) and more accurate (7 times fewerwrong selections) than multi-stroke menus.

The magic wand (la baguette magique)

The “magic wand” allows each visitor to catch andkeep contents during the visit. Using the “magicwand” the user interacts with the kiosks and capturesinformation of interest. At the end of the visit the user can manipulate thisinformation and send it by e-mail.Later the user remotely can enjoy the content grasped during the visit and remember the experience from home or at work.

Elisa Rubegni et al. (2004)

based on the RFID technology(Radio Frequency IDentification)

The interaction between a kiosk and a magic wand ishidden for the user. When the user interacts with thekiosk placing the magic wand near the reader, thecurrently visualised content on the screen areautomatically captured using the magic wand. TheDatabase on the Server is updated with the informationof which wand has been used in which room as well aswhat information the user captured.

A picture of the envisioning scenarioconcerning data retrieval through a mobile device

The archive documents could be digitalised and marked up by the RF-ID technology in order to allowthe access both to the physical and virtual archive. Each paper document could be linked to an electronic copy and to others comments or files associated to it.The whole amount of documents and the semanticconnections among them create an infrastructure. The archive could be continuously updated and redefined by the users. The users could retrieveinformation using their palm device, or with a RF-ID reader, just approaching them near the archive.

SHIVA (Several-Humans Interface with Vision and Audio): A novel interface allowing several users to interact remotely with a very large display usingboth speech and gesture.

The head and both hands of each users are tracked in real time by a stereo vision basedsystem. From the body parts position, the direction pointedby each user is computed and selection gesturesdone with the second hand are recognized.

The system is tested on a chess game with twousers playing on a very large display.

Precision with one personPrevious results obtained with a one person interface and from experiments on 14 usersshowed that the pointed direction is estimated with a precision of about 0:75 deg [3] (1.5 % of the diagonal of the very large display (120") for a user at 1.5 m of the large display).

Precision with two personsThe precision is the same when two persons interact.

Some tracking results exemples. Rectangles: tracked body parts (blue: head, red: 1st hand, green: 2nd hand). White lines: assignment of hands to a head. From left to right:(1) One left-handed user sitting in the back, the other standing and pointing.(2) Even when private areas overlap, body parts are still tracked and assigned correctly.(3) Shiva posture, the tracker is robust to naked forearms and to freely moving users.

Recherche IHM OCZ NIA

L’OCZ NIA (Neural Impulse Actuator).
