Vorwort Mit der vorliegenden Sammlung habe ich lediglich das Ziel im Auge, für ägyptologische Übungen auf Universitäten geeigneten Lesestoff aus hieratischen Handschriften in zuverlässiger Gestalt zugänglich zu machen. Die Texte sind, soweit es sich um Papyri des Berliner Museums handelt, unter steter Vergleichung der Originale auf Photographien oder Gelatinedurchzeichnungen autographiert. Die notwendigsten Angaben über Inhalt und Alter der Handschriften sind den einzelnen Abschnitten vorausgeschickt. Als Hilfsmittel setze ich meine Hieratische Paläographie (Leipzig, im gleichen Verlage, Bd. 1:1909) voraus; die Zahlen, welche ich seltenen oder besonders unregelmäßig gestalteten Zeichen im Texte beigefügt habe, beziehen sich auf die in dieser Arbeit durchlaufenden Ziffern. Aufschluß über grammatische Fragen findet der Benutzer, soweit es sich um die Lesestücke des vorliegenden ersten Heftes handelt, in Ermans Ägyptischer Grammatik (2. Auflage Berlin 1902, 3. Auflage in Vorbereitung), den Wortschatz wird ihm das Ägyptische Glossar desselben Autors (Berlin 1904) liefern. Gr. Lichterfelde b. Berlin Georg Möller.

Foreword

With this collection, I have only the goal in mind, of making suitable reading material from hieratic manuscripts in reliable form, accessible for egyptological exercises in universities. The texts, as far as it concerns the papyri of the Berlin Museum, are autographed on photographs or gelatin copies constantly collated with the originals.

The indispensable information about contents and age of the manuscripts precede each section. As an aid, my Hieratic paleography (Leipzig, from the same publisher, Vol. 1:1909) is required; the figures, which I have added to rare or especially irregular formed signs in the text, are referring to the figures running in this work. The user will find explanations about grammatical questions, as far as it concerns the reading passages of the present first fascicle, in Erman's Egyptian Grammer (2nd edition Berlin 1902, 3rd edition being prepared), the vocabulary will be given to him by the Egyptian Glossary of the same author (Berlin 1904). Page 12 Sinuhe remains away from home for a long time where he, especially after emerging victorious from a duel, is held in greatest esteem. Finally he is given permission to return home. Pardoned by the king, he ends his life in honor at the Egyptian court.
