This standard has been published in accordance with a decision taken by CEN/TC 139 to adopt, withoutalteration, International Standard ISO 4628-6 as a European Standard.

The responsible German body involved in its preparation was the Normenausschuss Beschichtungsstoffeund Beschichtungen (Coatings and Coating Materials Standards Committee), Technical Committee Allge-

 meine Prüfverfahren für Beschichtungsstoffe und Beschichtungen.

DIN 53230 and DIN ISO 4628-1*) are the standards corresponding to International Standard ISO 4628-1referred to in clause 2 of the EN.

 Amendments

DIN 53223, December 1973 edition, has been superseded by the specifications of EN ISO 4628-6, which isidentical to ISO 4628-6.

ISO 4628-6 : 1990 Paints and varnishes – Evaluation of degradation of paint coatings – Designation of inten-sity, quantity and size of common types of defect – Part 6: Rating of degree of chalking bytape method,

which was prepared by ISO/TC 35 ‘Paints and varnishes’ of the International Organization for Standardization,has been adopted by Technical Committee CEN/TC 139 ‘Paints and varnishes’, the Secretariat of which is held

by DIN, as a European Standard.This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identicaltext or by endorsement, and conflicting national standards withdrawn, by April 2002 at the latest.

In accordance with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of the follow-ing countries are bound to implement this European Standard:

 Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy,Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
