Das Gerat erfOIlt die Sicherheitsanforderungen der: - DIN 12 880 Teil 1/11.78DIN VDE 0700 Teil 1 / 04.88DIN VDE 0875 Teil 11/07.92

Daruber hinaus ist der Labor - Muffel- / Kammerofen M104 / K114 durch das VDE Prtif- undZertifizierungsinstitut sicherheitstechnisch geprOft, FOr das Gerat bestehen, in der gepruftenAusfOhrung (Anhana;), die GS r und Funkschutz - Zeichengenehmtgungen.

Bei Riickfragen und Ersatzteilbestellungen, bitte Daten des Typenschildes angeben.

1.3 BETRIEBSANWEISUNG

Fur die Arbeiten an und mit dem Gerat sind anhand dieser Betriebsanleitung und aufgrund derdurchzufuhrenden Arbeiten vom Betreiber schriftliche Anweisungen in verstandlicher Form zuerstetlen und in der Sprache der BeschSftigten bekannt zu machen (BRD: UW VBG 1 § 7 (2)).

HINWEISE FUR DEN SICHEREN BETRIEB

1.4 SICHERHEITSHlNWElSE

Das Gerat darf nlchizurÊjS^rm'uhgvdn Isfahto^

Das GerSt darf nicht fOr Trocknungen oder WSrmebehandlungen verwendet werden, bei denenbrennbare Gase und Dampfe frei werden, die mit Luft brennen Oder ein gefahrliches explosions-fahiges Gemisch bilden konnen. Ebenfalls ist der Ofen nicht zur Warmebehandlung gefahrlicherStSube und Faserstoffe geeignet.

Die Metallflache urn das Ofenmaul wird im Betrieb bei hSheren Arbeitstemperaturen heift, esbesteht VERBRENNUNGSGEFAHR. Das Bertihren dieser FlSche ist zu vermeiden.

Urn den Schutz vor elektrischem Schlag zu gewahrleisten, mussen besondere SchutzmaBnah-men zur externen Temperaturerfassung getroffen und beachtet werden.

Der Ttir - Sicherheitsschalter ist innerhalb der festgelegten Prufintervalle, jedoch mindestens 1-mal jShrlich, auf seine sicherheitsteehnisch einwandfreie Funktion zu prufen.

Zur Aufrechterhallung der Temperatur - Schutzfunktion ist die Obertemperatur - Schutzeinrich-tung in angemessenen Zeitabstanden, mindestens 1/4-jShrlich auf ihre Funktionsfahigkeit undmindestens 1-mal jahriich zus^tzlich elektrotechiiisch zu prQfen.

Die bei Warmebehandlungen entstehenden Abgase sind gefahrlos ins Freie abzuforiren. Dienational gultigen Umweitschutzvorschriften und -maiinahmen sind zu beachten (BRD: BlmSchG,:UVPG, AbfG, WHG, Chem G, ...)•

NetzanschluEIeitung und Stecker sind vor Gebrauch auf Beschadigungen 2u prOfen. WennSchSden vorhanden sind, darf das Gerat nicht mit dem Netz verbunden werden.

Die auf dem Typenschild angegebene Spannung muS mit der vorhandenen Netz-Nennspannungpbereinstimmen.

Gerate in Exportausfuhrung, phne ObertemperaturschutzeinrFchtung, durfen.nur stSndjgbeaufsichtigt betrieben werden.

2Der Labor - Muffel- / Kammerofen ist ein Laborgerat far wSrmetechnische. Anwendungen:

• Warmebehandlung von Proben / Guterp zwischen 300 °C und 1000 °C (M 104) bzw.1100 aC(K 114)

• Beschickungsgewicht biszu 5 kg

Das Gerat Ist zur Aufsteltung und zum Betrieb fur in der Regel folgende Bereiche geeignet;

• Laboratorien z.B. in Gewerbe, Industrie, Schulen, Universitaten, Krankenhausern undBiologle

Fur Anwendungen zum:

• Altern, Analysieren, Aniassen, Aufschlieden, Einbrennen, GlQhen, Harten, UJten, Oxidieren,Reduzieren, Veraschen und VdrwSrmen.

Die AusrQstung des Ofens mit dem unabhangigen Obertemperaturschutz 'Temperatur -Wahlbegrenzer" ermfiglicht den Betrieb des Gerates ailch ohne standige Beaufsichtigung.

Das Gerat ist fur Dauerbetrieb konzipiert.

Um ungleichmaGige Erwarmung des Beschickungsgutes zu vermeiden, ist darauf zu achten, daftein Abstand zu den Innenflachen des Ofenraumes eingehalten wird.

Persfinliche SchutzausrQstungen, wie Arbeitshandschuhe, Schutzbrille usw., sind wegen dermSglichen hohen Arbeitstemperaiuren immer vorzusehen.

Das0erat darf nicht:

- zur Erwarmuog yon Nahrungsmitteln yerwendet werden.

Das Gerat ist mit einer festen AnschlufJIeitung als Steckergerat kpnzipiert, Der Schutz gegenelektrischen Schlag erfoigt uber den Schutzleiteranschlull (Schutzklassel).

Der Labor - Ofen ist mit einer Funk-Entstorung ausgeriistet.

Die Temperaturregelung erfoigt durch einen elektronischen Temperaturregler mit Fuhlerbruch-erkennung, die interne Temperaturerfassung uber ein NiCr-Ni -Thermoelement. Die Leistungs-zufuhr der Heizung wird uber ein Leistungs - Halbleiter vom Temperaturregler gesteuert.

Unter bestimmten Betriebsbedingungen kann es zu Verztigerungen bei der erneutenInbetriebnahme des Gerates kommen:Wird das GerSt bei hOheren Arbeitstemperaturen betrieben und anschliefSend abgeschaltet,kann eingebauten Temperaturwachters fiihren. Nach einer Wartezeit von ca. 10 Minuten istdies, durch vorhandene Restwarmekapazitat, zur Abschaltung des zur Oberwachung dasGerat wieder betriebsbereit.

Bei ArbeitstemperatUreri ab ca. 700 °C rhuft mit einer ertiQHteh LeftfShigkeft der kerarfiiscrienIsolation im Ofenraum gereehhetwerden. Urn den Schutz vor elektrischen Schlag zu gewShr-leisten, ist das GerSt nilt elnem gepfOftert, zwangsflffnenden Sicherheitsscrialteriaiisgerustet.

Beim 6ffnen der SchwehktQr v/Ird die Heizung allpolig abgeschaltet und \/6rn Versorgungsrietzgalvanisch getrennt.

.-v Der Tiir - Sicherheitsschalter ist innerhalb der festgelegten PriJfintervalle, jedochmindestens 1-mal jahrlich, auf seine sicherheitstechnisch einwandfreie Funktion zupriifen.

4 AUFSTELLUNG UND INSTALLATION

Flir die Aufstellung, Installation und den Betrieb des Gerates sind, auBer denr \ \ Angaben in dieser Betriebsahleitung, die jeWeils national gilftigen Vorschriften zu

beachten (BRD: ZH 1/119, DIN 12880 Teil 1).

4.1 TRANSPORT

Gerat vorsichtig transportierert, Erschuttefungen und BeschSdigungen vermeiden. Nicht amTiir- griff oder an der Tur selbst anheben oder tragen.Mafte und Gewicht siehe Kapitel TECHNISCHE DATEN.

4.2 AUSPACKEN

Gerat auspacken, Transportslcherungen aus dem Innenraum entnehmen, eventuelleVerschmutzungen oder Abrieb beseitigen.

4.3 AUFSTELLUNG

Der Labor - Ofen istaufeinerfesten, nicht brennbaren FIMche (Labortische, Untergestelle)aufzustellen, so dad sich ein waagrechter, slcherer Stand erglbt.

4.9 INSTALLATION AN BAUSEITIGE ABLUFTSYSTEME

Fur die Ableitung frefwerdender Abgase bei der Warmebehandlung sind dienational gOItigen Umweltschutzbestimmungen zu beachten. Die Abgase sindgefahrlos ins Freie abzufUhren (BRD: BImSchG). Hierzu konnen unter anderemthermische oder katalytische AblgftbehandJung Malinahmen sein.

Der AnschlulS an bauseitige Abluftsysteme mufJ Qber Zugunterbrecher erfolg'en.Alle Abgas-leitungen sind aus nicht brennbaren Materialien auszufuhren (Empfohlene Werkstoff-Nr. 1.4301oder 1.4571). Reinigungs5ffnungen zur Beseitigung von Ruckstanden und Kondensat sind vor-zusehen. Die Abgasleitungen sind the'rmisch zu isolieren (Empfehlung: Rohrhaibschalen auskaschierter Mineralfaser).

Der Abgas - / Luft - Volumenstrom sollte strfimungstechnisch Oberwacht werden, ein Betrlebdes Ofens bei ausgeschaiteter / gestorter bauseitiger Luftung nicht rnoglich sein(Verriegelung).

Bei AusrOstung des Gerates mit Abzuggebtase ist eine Abgasfuhrung ins Freie durch direktenAnschiuU von maximal 5 m Abgasleitung (2 Bogen, Winkel 90 ") moglich. Dabei sindBeeintrSchtigungen der Abgasfuhrung durch WitterungseinfiufSe nicht auszuschlieBen.

4.10 EXTERNE TEMPERATURERFASSUNG

In der Mitte der Schwenktur ist eine Bohrung (0 5 mm) vorgesehen.

Manteltherrrtoelemente, fQrexterne Temperaturerfassung im Ofenraum, konnen hiereingebracht werden.

Ober die Schirmung des Mantelthermpeiementes flie&t ein zusatzlicher Abieitstrom. Dieseraddiert sich zum GerSte - Ableitstrom.Die Summe der Ableitstrome kann unter ungOnstigenUmstanden Fehlerstrom - Schutzschalter zum Ansprechen bringen.

Empfehlung: Ofen an einen separated Fehferstrom- Schutzschalter anschlieflen(Auslosender Fehlerstrom < 30 mA).

Die WarmeObertragung irn Ofenraum auf das Beschickungsgut erfolgt durch Strahlung.

Um Srtliche Oberhitzung am Beschickungsgut und am Heizteiterzu vermeiden, das Gutgleichmaftig verteilen und nJchtzu nah an der Heizung in den Ofenraum einbringon.

Bei der Beschickung darauf achten, daU die Thermoetemente im Ofenraum nicht beschadigtwerden.

Verunreinigungen im Ofenraum sind hSufig Ursache vorzeitiger Zerstorung der Isolation und derHeizung. Direkter Kontakt aggresiver Chemikalien mit der Keramik oder dem Fasermaterialsollte vermieden werden.

Die Lebensdauer der Heizwicklung hangt stark von der Temperaturbelastung ab.Der Ofen soilte im Bereich seiner H6chsttemperatur nur solange betrieben werden, wie es zumArbeiten erforderlich ist.StSndiges Aufhefeen und AbkOhlen uber grofie Temperaturbereiche kann die Lebensdauerebenfalls negativ beeinflullen. Dauerbetrieb bei mittleren Temperaturen ist hier die gunstigereBetriebsart, wenn das GerSt ofters genutzt wird.

Die Be- und Eritluftungsoffnuhgen des Gehauses diirfen nicht abgedeckt oder Gegensta"ndedarauf abgefegt werden. Offnungen immervon Verschmutzungen frei halten.

Der Obertemperaturschutz sollte auch wahrend des Betriebes von autorisiertem Personalgepruft werden.

6.1 WARTUNG/REINIGUNG

Das Gerat ist weitgehend warlungsfrei. Lagerstellen der Schwenkttirrnechariik kfinnen milGraphitol geschmiert werden.

Aulienflachen und Bedienelemente des Gerates mit milder Seifenltisiriig (SpQImittei) undweichem Tuch abwischen.

Verschmutzungen im' Ofenraum beseitigen.

Ist das Gerat an bauseitige Abluftsysteme angeschlossen, sind die Abluftleitungen in dieReinigungsmalSnahmen miteinzubeziehen.

Arbeiten an der etektrotechnischen Ausriistung des Gerates durfen nur durch denKendro - Service und im sicheren Zustand (Spannung freigeschaltet)durchgefiihrt werden. Es durfen nur zugelassene Orlginalersatzteile verwendetwerden.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

To ensure the safety of persorinet, toe environment and samples, it is of paramount importancethat the operator uses these laboratory furnaces correctly.

To avoid errors and causing damage, especially personal injuries, be sure to carefully readthis manual before using the unit and to follow all instructions.

When installing and operating the unit, be sure to comply additionally with all applicable laws,regulations and guidelines of your country, (e.g. FRG: ZH 1/119, DIN 12880 Section 1,technical conditions for connections specified by the EVU's etc ).

Metal surfaces around the mouth of the furnace become hot at high operating temperatures.There is a DANGER OF INJURY. Avoid contact with these surfaces.

Special measures must be taken and strictly observed during external temperaturemeasurement to ensure protection bf personnel from electrical shock.

The door-operated safety switch is to be tested at fixed regular intervals, at the very least onceper year, to ensure that it is technically in perfect working order.

To safeguard temperature protection functions, functionally test the over-temperatureprotection system at appropriate intervals (at least every 3 months). Its electrical functionsshould be tested additionally, at least once each year.

Flue gases resulting from heat treatments are to be safely conducted out of the room. Be sureto observe the environmental protection measures and regulations applicable in your country.(FRG: BlmSchG, UVPG, AbfG, WHGr Chem G,...).

Test the mains supply cable and connecting plug for possible defects before using the unit.The unit is not to be connected to the mains circuit if defects are detected.

2 AREAS OF APPLICATION

The muffle/chamber furnace is designed for thermal technology applications In the laboratory:

• Volume'of furnace work chamber 4.7 I (M 104) or 3.8 I (K 114)

• Heat treatment of samples and objects from 300 °C to 1000 °C (M 104) or to 1100 °C (K114)

• Loads of up to 5 kg

The unit is generally designed for installation and operation In the following areas:

• Laboratories, such as those found in manufacturing trades and industry, schools, universities,hospitals and biology.

It is used for;

• ageing, analysis, tempering, decomposing, baking, annealing, hardening, soldering, oxidising,reducing, incineration and preheating.

The over-temperature protection "upper limit cut-out" which can be supplied with the unit enablesoperation without constant supervision.

The unit is designed for continuous operation.

To avoid samples being unevenly exposed to heat, care must be taken to maintain a distancefrom the inner surfaces of the furnace work chamber.

Provisions should always be made, to provide operators with protective clothing, ;such as workinggloves and protective glasses, due to the often high temperatures existing inthe workingenvironment

Do not use the unit:

- to heat up foods

- for drying or heat treatment of substances which release gases or vapours intothe atmosphere that are flammable or dangerously explosive When mixed withair. This furnace is equally unsuitable for the heat treatment of combustibledusts and fibrous materials.

The operating elements for built-in electrical components are integrated into the 'operating panelof the switching and control Unit.

The unit is designed asa plug-in: unit and is supplied with a fixed mains connection. A PEconductor (protection class I) provides protection against electrical shock.

The laboratory furnace is equipped with radio interference suppression.

Temperature control is provided by an electronic temperature controller featuring a sensor defectindicator. The interior temperature is measured by a thermocouple. A power semiconductor in thetemperature controller regulates the power supplied for heating.

3,1 SAFETY FEATURES

The unit is designed to provide the following safety features:

• Protection of the operator from injury and dangerous currents• Protection against the risk of fire in the work area- Thermal protection of the load during normal operation and in case of breakdown

3.1.1 PROTECTION AGAINST HEAT AND HEATED PARTICLES

Protection against heat and heated particles is Integrated into the tilting door mechanism. Itprotects the operating elements and surfaces around the unit from direct heat radiation. Heatedparticles are captured when the door is opened.

3.1.2 COOLING SYSTEM OF THE UNIT

The laboratory furnace is equipped with a monitored cooling system which prevents the casing ofthe small unit from overheating. If the temperature of the housing exceeds the pressedtemperature values, the unit is switched off automatically.

Under certain operating conditions, there may be delays before operation of the unit can berestarted:residual heat, existing after the unit has been operated at high temperatures and then switchedoff, may shut off the built-in temperature controller. The unit can put Back into operation after aperiod of approximately 10 minutes.

3.1,3 DPQR-QPERATED SAFETY SWITCH

SAFETY FEATURES

3.1.4 OVER-TEMPERATURE PROTECTION FEATURE

The unit is supplied with an electronic upper limit cut-out (TWB) with sensor defect recognition,temperature class 2 according to DIN Standard 12 880 Section 1 /11.78. It is electrically andfunctionally independent of the temperature control system.

When functioning properly, the TWB shuts down the unit across all poles of the current to theheating elements when temperatures rise above the preset temperature limit, thereby activatingthe red "malfunction" indicator. The unit is reset manually (control panel key) once the unit hascooled. A tool, such as a coin or screwdriver, is used to adjust the preset temperature value.

To safeguard temperature protection functions, test the over-temperature Protectionsystem periodically to ensure that it is functioning properly (at least every 3 months). Itselectrical parts should be tested additionally, at least once every year.

Please refer to the section "OVER-TEMPERATURE PROTECTION" for detailed information,including how to functionally test and adjust the TWB.

3.1.5 SAFETY EXTRA-LOW VOLTAGE

The measurement and control circuits of the control and monitoring system, which have galvaniccontact to the furnace chamber, are isolated from the mains power supply (SELV). This ensuresprotection against electrical shock when the furnace door is open and the controller remainsswitched on. It is thus not necessary to switch off the control devices.

3.1.6 UNITSWlTHOUT OVER-TEMPERATURE PROTECTION

3.2 OPTIONAL FITTINGS

3.2.1 THERMICON® P TEMPERATURE CONTROLLER

On customer request, the unit can be supplied with a programmable temperature controller.

3.2.2 24 - HOUR - TIMER

(see section CONTROL PANEL for description)

An electromechanical 24-hour timer can be installed to switch the unit on and off at specifiedtimes.

3.2.3 EXHAUST FAN

(Available only for M 104. See section CONTROL PANEL and the chapter SETUP ANDINSTALLATION for detailed description)

The unit can be equipped with an exhaust fan to expel flue gases generatedby heat treatment.

Flue gases resulting from heat treatments are to be safely conducted out of the.room. Be sure to observe the environmental protection measures and regulationsapplicable in your country, (FRG: BlmSchG, UVPG, AbfG, WHG, Chem G,...)

3.3 ACCESSORIES '

If "malfunction" is indicated during operation:

Check the settings of the TWB and the temperature controller. Make any necessary adjustments.If difficulties persist, contact our service department.

4 SETUP AND INSTALLATION

Follow instructions contained in this instruction manual carefully when setting' 1 \ up, installing and operating the unit. Be sure to comply with all applicable

regulations in your country (FRG: ZH 1/119, DIN 12880 Sectioni).

4.1 TRANSPORT

Handle with care, avoid vibrating or other possible causes of damage to the unit. Do not grip th6door handle or the door itself to lift the unit.See TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS for details on weight and dimensions.

4.2 UNPACKING THE UNIT

Unpack the unit. Remove transport safety fixtures from the chamber and clean all surfaces ofany grit or other contaminants.

4.3 SETUP

The laboratory furnace is to be placed in a.stable and perfectly upright position on a firmfireproof surface, such as a laboratory table or support frame.

• It is not possible to stack the M 104 and K 114 furnaces.• Room temperature can be up to 40 °C.• Do not cover or obstruct the ventilation or exhaust vents of the unit.

SETUP' AND INSTALLATION

4.5 MAIN CONNECTION

The unit is supplied with a fixed flexible mains power cable and mounted plug (grounded). Testthe mains supply cable and connecting plug for possible faults before using the unit. The unit isnot to be connected to the mains circuit if faults are detected. The voltage specified on thenameplate of the unit must match the voltage delivered by the mains,power supply.

The furnace is only to be plugged into a properly installed outlet equipped with a PE conductor(Protection Class 1). The mains power circuit should additionally provide protection againstleakage current from indirect contacts using a safety switch activated by currents of <30 mA.

See TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS for rated power consumption.Mains circuit protection required: T 16 A fuse or B 16 circuit break-switch.

Rubber-sheathed flexible cable of at least 1.5 mm diameter ( H 07 RN-F) is to.be used for anyrequired power extensions to the connecting plug outlet of the unit.

4.6 NOISE INSULATION

The cooling ventilator and exhaust air fan (option) may cause noise levels to rise above normallevels in unfavorable installation conditions. In such cases, additional measures may have to beundertaken to improve sound insulation in the room.

4.7 ROOM VENTILATION

4.9 CONNECTION TO EXTRACTION SYSTEMS

Information on dimensions of installation example:

• Air flow volume above the cut-off valve (position 3) approx. 5 times the air flow volume ofthe unit

• Inside diameter of flue gas collection ducts 100 mm

Technical measures should be implemented to monitor the flow of afr and flue gases, and toprevent operation of the furnace when the extraction system serving the room is defective orswitched off (locking mechanism).

Flue duc.ts for units equipped with exhaust fans may have a maximum length of 5 rn (2 bends,angle of 90") when gases are conducted into the free atmosphere. It is possible that the flowof gases will be impaired under certain weather conditions.

4.10 EXTERNAL MEASUREMENT OF FURNACE TEMPERATURE

There is an aperture (0 5 mm) in the middle of the swing door.

This serves as an access for shielded thermocouples providing external measurement oftemperatures inside the furnace chamber.

To avoid damage to temperature measurement devices, these are only to be connected topower circuits that are entirely independent of the mains power supply. (FRG: DIN VDE 0100Section 410)

To erisure |jr6tection agairist electrical shock, only shielded thermocoupleelements which are property connected to the PE conductor are to be placedthrough this aperture. Due care must be taken that the thermocouple idoe$ notcomei Into contact with the walls of the furnace.

An additional leakage current flows over the thermocouple shield. It is added to the leakagecurrent of the uriit Under unfavorable conditions, the sum of all leakage.currents can activatethe leakage current protection switch. Recommendation: connect the furnace to a separateleakage current protection switch (rated at < 30 mA).

OPERATION

5.2 OPERATING GUIDELINES

Put on personal safety garments necessary to protect hands, face arid body; remove jewellery;;

Heat is conducted to samples in the furnace chamber through radiation.

To avoid overheating the samples or heat conductors, distribute samples evenly throughoutthe furnace chamber and do not place them too close to the heating.

Take care not to damage the heating elements in the furnace chamber when loading thesamples.

Soiled surfaces on the inside of the furnace chamber are often the cause of premature damageto insulation and heating. Direct contact of aggressive chemicals with the ceramic and fibermaterial surfaces is to be avoided.

The durable life of the heating coils is highly dependent oh the temperature load.The operation of the furnace at its highest temperatures should be limited to the time necessaryfor the task being performed.Durable life can also be adversely affected by continually heating and cooling the furnace over alarge temperature range. If used often, it is best to run the unit in continuous operation atmedium temperatures.

The ventilation and extraction vents on the outside of the unit are not to be covered, nor shouldany objects be placed on them. Be sure to keep these vents clean.

The over-temperature protection should also be tested by authorized personnel duringoperation of the unit.

6 MAINTENANCE

To ensure the proper functioning and safety of the unit, all necessary tests, and maintenanceand repair work should be carried out by Heraeus service personnel or someone authorised byour company.

Kendro Laboratory Products GmbH can not be made liable for any possible damage causedby the unit if repair work which is notcarried out by Heraeus service centres leads to faultyoperation of the unit, or if parts other than authorised replacement parts and accessories areused.

We recommend that you conclude a service contract with our company. Please contact us foran offer (see APPENDIX).

6.1 MAINTENANCE / CLEANING

The unit requires very little maintenance. The bearings of the leveraged swing door can belubricated with graphite oil.

Clean the outer surfaces and control elements with mild detergent and a soft cloth.

Clean away any spillage or residues from the furnace chamber.

The exhaust ducts should be part of cleaning procedures if the unit is connected to extractionsystems serving the room where the unit is installed.

6.2 TESTING

To ensure that the unit remains in proper working condition, it should be test at least ohceayearonthe'fqijowing:
