RF part has a great impact to system performance and costs. Improvements can be done, e.g.:
• ideal adaptation of RF and DSP sub-systems
• built in self test / self correction of the RF subsystem driven by the DSP part
Simulation is required at different design levels.
System level simulation (RF and DSP) has a growing importance.

Problem in Wireless System Simulation
Problem
the DSP subsystems of up-to-date communication systems have a great complexity
fast simulation required.
the transmission is done at a very high carrier frequencyaccurate RF modeling required
wireless system simulation is always a trade-offbetween accuracy and simulation speed
special modeling and simulation techniques are used
further improvements needed
High system complexityrequires fast simulation
= simple models
RF behavior (about 5GHz)requires accurate simulation
Very high carrier frequencies

Current problems in RF system level modeling
Problems
system level simulators uses signals instead of nodes, therefore it is very difficult to describe impedance matching at the block interfaces
system level simulators do not provide special RF analyses which are helpful for model development
RF simulation tools provide good RF analyses but they do not understand system modeling languages
models of the same RF components are often unequal at different design levels and tools
Goal: Bridging the gap between System Level Designand RF circuit design

Vorteile:
