OfHouse Husbands and Domes^c F.npineerahas life been like for th elast six months? Mosdy going

to bed late and getting upearly! Christopher ahnostalways sleeps through thenight, which works out wellwith my schedule. He'salready seven months old and16 pounds. He seems to have inherited some ofallergies, though. The milkformula we gave Aletheia

auses a bad case of eczema on his face and scalp. Onoof soy-based formula improves his condition greatly, hile another brand is as bad as the milk formula, uggesting the cause might be more than or other than justilk. With the help of a brother who is a doctor, we wereble to get some allergy tests done almost for free.hristopher's blood reacted positive to egg white, but notany of the other six main food items. Being so small,e amount of blood was insufficient to run a complete test

Meanwhile, Aletheia is taking shorter naps andquiring more direct attention. Since the weather haseen so rotten this year, there has been litde chance to goandplayandworkoff allthat energy. Basically, as9n as one stops requiring attention, |he other one starts!

One of the members of the Bible College's BoaDirectors, Leung SiuFong (Elizabeth), is nowa studeLincoln Christian Seminary. While there, she has hnumber of opportunities to share about the chsituation inHong Kong and China. Sometitnes shegereturn for a brief visit.toHong Kong. Those of youknow about the difficulties our Bible CollegeJiad ba1985-87 might be interested in a report shemade duher las t vis it home.

While in the States, when she mentioned sheaosociatcd wifli tlic Bible College in Hcng Kong, somtold her they had heard there was a young woconnected with us who was a homosexual. No namementioned and Elizabeth couldn't imagine who it coulAH became clear to her later, when it was explainedthe person responsible for our past difficultiesthreatened to spread such a rumor about the pnmeye-witness against him. This eye-witness, who hasslandered, was Elizabeth's roommate in 1985, LeeMoTo set the record straightfor anyone else who mhave heard" this rumor, Lee Mo Lin is not, nor has behomosexual. She has sincemarried, has children andesteemed, active official in a local church. Even thouhas been more than ten years since that mess begarepercussions involving the Bible College arereverberating, due to such slanderous rumors being mlies being told and believed, and nothing much being

y those who know the truth, such as certain official andvoices at Lincoln \ ^ o choose to believe that &eof the difficulties lay only in "personality

of the people involved. Some interesting news has come out ofChina recendy. It seems the spirit of^ rampant Capitalism is running unchecked^ by morality.Of course the illegalCD-ROMproduction has made news in the States,t have you heard of tiie wire thieves? In a single day ineijing, diese enterprising souls stripped more than 3.Siles of electrical and telephone wiresfrom the city's polesand house sides~in clear dayligiht and plain view! Theame thing happened on a smaUer scale to Bob Kraft, tiie

brother mentioned in the last newsletter. Mean\^e,China has issued orders that all users of the Internet in thePRC must register&eir connectionswith the Government.Onewonders ifBeijing bdieves thiswill inhibit the flowofuncontrolled information. One also must wonder whetherChina will eventuallybe able to monitor such information, since it was recen^ reported that an e-mail sent fromSwitzeriand to friends in Paris and Israel wa s routedthrough a nonexistent node in a city near Lan^ey,Viiginia. On a more serious note, while Hong Kong andBritish politicians are hag^ing with Beijing about thefuture of the LegislativeCouncil and whether civil servantswin be required to take an oath of allegiance, absolutelynothing is being said about future religious freedoms inHong Kong. In view of the gready increased enforcementof China's religious regulations that began onMarch 1 andhas resulted in wholesale raids of unregistered housechurches, things do not look too good at the moment. Onthe other hand, the house churches that have registeredwith the govermnenthave been largelyunmolested. Suchregistration is already required by law in Hong Kong and isnot even questioned by Hong Kong churches. TheChinese govermnent is somewhat alarmed by the n^dspread of Christianity in China as evidenced by theincreasingnumber of churches being registered. The newreligious regulations mentioned above, brand Christianswho do not obey the Chinese regulations as criminals, equal with thieves, murderers, etc. One cannot help butask how many h i^ ranking govermnent officials wouldfall into the same category due to comq)tion.

The Bible College is a little lacking forteachers this summer. Out of al l "our"missionaries, only Light and I are not goingon furlou^ tl^ year. I am teachingPhilosophy and Christianitv based on the

1980 book by Colin Brown. Since he only surveys thevarious Western philosophies that have infhienced the

Church without explaining how or why that in|hoccurred, I will be filling in the blank spaces for hihave nine students, inchiding our secretary, a membMongkok Church, and two ofLight's coworkers.

light has been having an interestingfew weeks aEast Broadcasting, ^ere she woiks. Ljghfs taskismto proof scripts for any glaring errors and editaccordingjly, besides using her Mwdarin to record sfor broadcast One script that crossed her desk decthat baptism was only a symbol and had nothing to doour salvation. She tried to reason with the writerscripture and was called a heretic for suggestingremission of sins and reception of die Holy Spirdependent on faith, repentence and baptism into Je(Acts 2:38). She supplied a number of people inoffice withmy extensive set of notes on baptism, inclthe top-mostDirector in the compax^, who had paida visit on the second day of the discussion. By thatthe whole office was abuzz. During a chapel on theday, the Director concludedtiiat remission of sins couobtained by baptism, but that baptism was not necefor salvation!!! The subject is stillnot completelyclosIn a second incident, a local Chinese preacher,is considered an e;q>ert about the Holy Spirit, was into write some scripts for the Bible Stu^ programhelps produce. Iliis program has a very large listaudience in China. In the first script she found sestatements diat were clearlyunsiq)portedby scripture,as the need to worship die Spirit because he is alsoand, that a person receives the Spirit at the momentbelieve, bas^ on Eph 1:13 (compare Acts 2:38; 19When she submitted the corrected script to the preahe was naturally upset with her changes. However, had already discus^ the changes with the Vice ProDirector, siqyplying him with all the relevant scripHer changes stood with onfy a bit of rewording, butthis is a seriesof scripts, other issuesare sure to arise.hi the past six months, I have been giveopportunity of preachingat the ShamShbranch of the Chinese Evangelical G

Church. (We have been attending theChai branch.) I willbe preaching there twice more byeafs end. There have akeady been many quegenerated about the Bible teaches on bapsaKation, and eternal security. I will also be preacMon^ok on 6/23 and at a Fhilq>pino church probabof August, while Bro. Causes for Praise and PraverGive thanks for Light's opportunit\' to witness thetruth of the scriptures at work. Several fellowworkers have alreach' altered their thinking. If thehigher management can be influenced to do likewise, this can have far reaching consequences in China, due to FEBC's broadcast range. Pray that the Spiritof Christ will open their understanding to believewhat the Bible really says. Please keep us and the Christians of Hong Kong inyour daily prayers as July 1, 1997 draws near. Notnearly enough attention has been raised about thereligious restrictions of China and how they mightimpact the Church in Hong Kong. Thanks to Jesus! I am no longer sensitive to onions, garlic, chives, or related species. As mentioned in the last letter, keep praying thatboth of us will be given enough strength and vitalityto achieve the tasks set before us. L of course, willstill be at home lending the small fry! Pray forthe health of our whole family. Pray also thatAletheia will not be too jealous of Christopher.Pray for the conversion of Light's parents who arealready 70+ years old. Pray also for her brothersand sisters, as well as my dad and sister. Please pray for Light's mother to want to give upsmoking and horse racing. Aletheia has alreadymimicked her smoking. With her heart and arterialcondition, smoking, and eating salty and oily foodsas she does, is not good. Please pray for me as I begin organizing mythoughts for a book on doctrinal problems.Give thanks that we have found a suitableIdndergarten for Aletheia to attend. It currently isplanning to expand to include a Primary School. That vvill solve the problem of where the childrenwill attend for the ne.'^t few years. As stated before, kindergarten will cost between USS100-$200 permonth.Pray that we will have more opportunities to preachand teach at th e CEG church in Wan Chai. I amhoping they will eventually permit me to teach aSunday School class of some sort. Please pray for the churches in Indonesia. It wasreported that in early June thousands of peoplestormed 11 churches, smashed the buildings andfacilities, beat the preachers and roughed up somewomen. More than US$60,000 was stolen fromofferings. It was not reported whether the attackerswere Muslims, but this is likely, since Indonesia is aMuslim controlled country and has a very militantgroup ofMuslims.
