NEV;S WITH
THE NICHOLSONS
ON
FURLOUGH
5 April i960
All
eyes
today
are focused on South
Africa.^
.
Ve
have
had no l e t t e r s from
the
workers there to know
jus t what
effec t
i t
is
having on
the
work
or
what the story is from them.
How
ever we know
tha t
i t
must af fec t the churchessi Tom
Dakuse
l ives
at
Lar^ga
Location
in
Capetown.
Ihe
brother
and
sister
of
Carrol l
'^ulford
have
been working
with
the
African
Sunday
School which
is
in Nyanga Location right near by. The 1960
Conference was
to
h^ve met
th i s
month a t Worcester, which
i s
just
north east of Capetown. here has be.:n
some
problesm
there,
so v e are
certain that
they
will
not meet as planned.
In fact, we are vfondering what may have been the situation with
the new church
building
there
for
many have been burned. Hov/
ever, there is nothing in this one
to
burn except the seats.
What are
we
going to do? ^he Lord willing we
are
going
back.
Sailing from New York on or c bout
the 1st
of July
aboard
the S.S.
South African t ransporter . We
know
that
many
will feel that
we
ought
to
remain
in
this
country,
but
we
can
a l l
remember how we have sent
forth our
boys to keep peace
around
the world. Many of
them
s t i l l
remain in these
countries
wheee
they gave their
lives, le
feel that South
^ifrica
has a real
need for us right
at
the present time. We want
to
stand by
to
strengthen
the
churches v/here
ever v^e
can. f problems keep
us
from working
as
we did our^.^first term , there
is
plenty of
othe r work v/h ich
we can
do. hey would
l ike
to have
us
work
with
the
European
church in ^^imberley as well as the Chinese
while the
Rees have
a furlough a t home. But we know that God
wi l l leod and we
must not tu rn back
ju s t fo r
an
eas i e r
way.
V/e do have a need
which
we would l i k e
to
b r ing to
your
attention.
V e
have
made
the
payment
to
reserve
our
sailing,
but lack nearly 1500 fo r
our
fare and~ tHe thin; s whxu h we - -'
shall be
taking
back
to
the field with
us.
V e shall appreciate
i t greatly
i f you
could
pray
for
us and
help
us in this
need.
The V/orthington, Minnesota church had a very nice
house
shower for us,
giving to-us
sheets, pillow cases , towels, dish-
towels
and many other
things
which we
use
so
well.
The
First
Church of
Christ at
Cherokee, Iowa gave Mrs. Nicholson
an^
accordion, this is
to replace
the old one which has
certainly
seen
be t t e r days. Ve great ly appreciate
these gi f t s
Our
plans
are
to

when

out
on
the 25th of May. V7e
wil l
be visi t ing Nicholson s

in V/ashington before

The
past
two months have been
much traveling. Have
spoken
in I l l inois^ Indiana, Ohio, Oregon, California,

We

we have attended
the

of
the
Minister s

School
at Umzumbe,
for
which Alv in
spoke. The
dedication of th e chu rch a t Mqanduli took
place
th e following
Sunday.
At both of these
services
we sitnessed one who gave his life to the
Lord. The f irst
of
October the following churches were visited:
Idutywa,
Craddock,
Middleburg,
Cape,
and Graaff Reinet,
A
meeting
of all the missionaries was held at
Graaff
Reinet at the same
time.
In the last year, th e A1
Zimmerman
family, A1 Hamilton family,
and
the
Carroll

family have joined
the
mission staff. The
Randall

A

building
was
erected at Worcester .
It
was damaged during the
riots
there,
but has
since been
repaired and
was
dedicated in
September. Plans
are
being
made
fo r the
building of a new
church
in Port Elizabeth. A
trip to contact
builders
and location authorities
will
be
made
in November .
GOALS
Plans are being made to
increase
the building imogram. We have a site granted
at
Warrenton. We need to begin
to
build here soon. Church sites have been granted
at
Mid
dleburg, Cape, and Queenstown,
but
they
moved
the
loca tions , so
we
must wait
until
they
give
us
new ones.
Part
of
the
material
for the
building
at Queenstown
had already been
purchased - about 30, 000 brick^and windows. We are preparing papers, maps etc. for
application for
sites
fo r
Gcilima and Upington.
Other goals
