    were

    a t

    the Stanleys

    fo r

    jus t

    over

    a

    week, while

    Bil l

    gave ten lectures a t

    the

Bib le Tra in ing School.

    Last

    month,

    we traveled

    back

    to the Northern Cape

    fo r meeting

    with some

    of

    the

    churches in

    that

area. Hopeto\ n[i is making plans to build a minister s home so that

    they

    can

    have

a res ident minister . Jacob VanWyk who

    spent

    a year in school,

    is

planning to come back and complete

    his

    work nex t y ea r.

We vis i ted with Abraham Leuw of

    Kimbe rly and

h is new br ide He married Lena

    of-Midde^lburg Cape who

    has

    alsa^spent t irae-a t school.Abraham

    has

    gotten

    permission

    to

    busy

    teaching

    the

    people in

    other classes.

Postmasburg a ls o d es ir es to get

    a church

    building.

    The

    services while

    we

    were

    present

    were

    held

    in a room

    a t

the local school . Ben Moroe,

    minister

    a t Postmasburg,

    re turned with us so

    tha t he

    could

    get

    more

    work a t

    school .

    The l a s t week end

    of

    March, we

    were present

    with Enock

    Zobolo and

    his

    ci rcu i t

    They

    have

    been busy

    rais ing the

    money

    for the

    coming conference. They

    have

    asked

    tha t

    we keep

    th e

    money

    for

    them in

    th e

    bank. They

    baptized

    nine on Sunday morning

    but we

    were not y et p re se nt. The l e t t e r

    he had

    sent

    to

    me took

    f ive

    days and only came here

on Monday af ter t ravel ing 25 miles. Brother Zobolo s work is g rowing and

    they

    are

    continually haveing

    baptisms. He

    said th is

    was

    not because he

    was

    working harder but

because Christians were bringing many of these people. They have

    baptized

    many young

    men amongst the 20

    to

    35

years of age group and th is is

    a

    group that has been harder

    to

    reach. Brother

    Zobolo

    and

    h is

    wife are hard

    workers

    and

    labor

    in

    such

    a

    way tha t

    the brethren love

    them and they

are great ly respected by those o utsid e th e church.

I went to Umtata to be ready

    for

th e funeral at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Saturday, morning,

    I was

    going to

th e location when they stopped

    me at

    the

    Funpral

    Home; they

    had

    come to

bring the body and those who came viewed

    i t

    f i r s t

    t her e.

    Then the body was

    taken to

    the

home where we had a word

    of

    prayer;

    then

    i t was

    put into

    a pickup and

    taken to

    a church.

    There were 17

    parts

    to the program thpy

    ha d prepared. Brother

    Qwemesha was the Master

    of Ceremonies.

    Two

    of th e

    items

    on the program were l e f t out. I

    finished my

    sermon

    shortly after

    noon

    but

    then

    found

    out that

    they

    were

    not expecting the funeral car

    to come

    back

    u n t i l 2

    p.m. and

so they could not fin ish

    before

    t h a t time. For

    the

    next

two hours there was singing and those

    who desire to

    spoke.

    When we

    had

    finished at the

    cemetary, we

    returned

    to th e

    home

where a tub o f water was placed outside the gate and

    each as he

    arrived

    washed

    his

hands. Then a meal was served

    for

    a l l . The two young men

at Umtata had c ar ed v ery well for providing

    for

    a ll that

needed to be done. They are to

    have a meeting

    of a ll

    the

    circuits in June

and have asked that I pome

    at that time.

Today, I went with Vemita to Gcilima for he r sewing class for th e women

    Shortly

    after we arrived

    they

    began

    to

    look

    at

    th e fire coming from a house on another h i l l .

rother Zobolo and I went there, bu t everything in th e house had been destroyed. The man

    was away at work and

    the

    wife had taken

    the youngest child to

    the

    Doctor.

    Other

    go t into this i t was

    not

    long

    until

    th e

    thatched roof

    was on fire and

    there

    was no hope. But

    th e

    church

    was

    alread

planning what they could do to give a helping hand to this family as they are members of

    th e chu r ch

    Not a ll the

    women

    at

    were spwing.

    There

    were a pumber present

    who

    were makin

    mud

blocks from which rondovels sha^l be

    made for

    use

    at

    conferenpe time and

    when they

    are

    needed They

    have just dug up the

    ground

    and worked

    it

    up well, then added a

    little

    cement, mixed

    well

    and then added

    water to make

    mud This wps

    placed into

    two molds.

    Both

    were th e same

    width and h e i g h t ,

    but

    one had

    These

    ar e used

    Vol. 14 No. 4 June, 1973

    Dear Chr i s t i an Brethren

Our Minister 's Week at Cradock was a very good meeting. There were 26

    ministers

    present with

    6

    of the missionaries. Some

    others

    had

    planned to come but

    were

    hindered

    by

    s ickness .

    Classes were

    taught by

    Nic Qwemesha Floyd Stamm

    and

    Bi l l

    Hall .

    There was a

    period given

    to

    prayer each

    morni ng and then a

    period

    for questions and

    discussion.

    The men took a

    bet ter

    part

    in

    th e

    sessions

    than they ever have

    before.

    ne question

    ^ ame

up that the missionaries were not aware of. Some had been saying

    that the

    young men

    had

    no right

    to

    be

    ministers

    because

    they

    ha d never

    been

    elders in

    the church. The

    brethren

    answered

    this question

very quickly and very positively. How

much better that they should answer i t than a missionary. I

    think

th is is one of the

s tr ong poi nt s

    of th is

    meeting in

    that it gives the

    brethren

    a chance

    to

    discuss thei r

    problems,

    questions and

needs as th ey have af~lio~o'fhef time.

    The

annual Conference has been moved forward to the

    12th thru

    th e

    16th of

    September.

    In

    th e

    past

    th e

    South

    African

    Railways have

    granted

    concession

    t ickets

    to

    those

    coming

to this meeting. This has now been done away

    with.

    But

    between

    the school holidays

t he railway does have a lower

    fare for those

    making a round trip within-that

    period.

    So we

    have

    moved the meeting forward

    to help

    the

    brethren take

    advantage

    of

    this Even

    so they

    are

going to have to pay much more for a ll ra i l fares have been in cr ea sed in the

    l a s t year

    We got

    another

surprise the f i r s t of th is m on th when South Africa revalued thei r mone

    upward and now

    i t

takes 1.49+ where it was taking 1;42+.

    The

    Gcilima church has

    already raised

    about

    175.00

    for the

    coming

    meeting

    of

    the

    churches.

They are repainting thei r church building and

    building

    two

    rondovels

    to be

    used a t tha t time.

    They

    are using mud

    with

    some cement mixed in

    i t fo r

    the

    blocks

    and

    will plas ter

    the buildings

on .tir outside and inside when

    they are done.

    The camp in Lusikisiki in

    Pondoland

    has

    been se t

    for the

    2nd to

    the 7th of July .

    The one at Sada near

    Wittlesea

    for the

    9th

    thru the

    14th.

    Vemita and I hope to

    be

    present

    for

both of these. The camp here at Port Shepstone wil l also meet the f i r s t

week of July at the Umzumbe Bible School. Not only are they expecting to have more of

    the i r

    own young

    people present , but

    the

    brethren

    fro m Durban

    will also be present with

    camper s

Last Sunday was Pentecost Sunday and

    the Brethren

se t the tent up th is time at

    Paddock. I

    took

the t en t out on Saturday

    afternoon

    for them.

    They

    asked i they

    could

    have

    a

    film.

    I knew one was

    being

    used on Sunday evening

    here at Port Shepstone

    and

    they

    le t

    me

    use

    i t

    But when we

    went

    to

    show

    i t

    we could not

    get

    sound

    from

    the

    pro

    j ec tor

    However,

    we showed it anyway

    and they

    were s t i l l g r ea tl y i n te r es ted in it I

    f inished

    my work and

    got

    back home

    that

    night at

    midnight.

    Our tent i t

    real ly

showing i ts age and we

    keep

having to get i t sewed up here and

    there . We

    priced a new one which would be a l i t t l e

    larger

than th i s and of a new

    water

p roof ma te ri al

    so

    i t wil l not be wet

    af t e r

    a ra in

    I t

    wil l cost 3,000.

    We

    will have

used i t twice for the church th is month as well as i t being used for a wedding and a

    funeral

    by members of

    the

    church here and

    i t

    will be used

    in

    both^^the camps

    that

    we

    atten

    So

    i t s

    use is growing more

    a ll

    the time. We were

    hoping

to use it for a meeting in th i s

    area

    but

    we

    have so

    many tasks

    before us

    t ha t

    we do not

    see

    how we

    wil l f i t it in
