DESIGN
Piggyback clamps are always individually designed according tocustomers’ drawings or based on own developments.
The design of the actual block is calculated from the dimensions of thetwo pipelines involved and the height of stand-off required. Furtherconsiderations, which affect this design, are:• if the smaller pipe is required to run free, • if the smaller pipe has to be clamped tightly
by the piggyback clamp.
The example is showing a two-part design of a machined Piggybacksaddle. In this case the upper part is clicked onto the lower part to alleviate the pipe-lay.
Another option would be a moulded single-part design with a filmhinge between the upper and the lower part of the saddle, but withoutthe option to lift the cover completely.
INSTALLATION
Option One:• the use of bandings and sealings• three different materials (Mild Steel, Inconel or Kevlar)• the Mild steel bandings support the blocks during the laying
process (they disintegrate later in the seawater – 6 months) • at the other end the Inconel or Kevlar strapping will remainin
place in the seawater – approximately 20 years
Option Two:• the use of Kevlar strapping with bolts• reduce lay time by up to 50% • reducing the cost of the whole job
The main criterias are, which pressure the blocks are exposed toduring the pipe-laying process, and how long the expected durabilityof the pipeline is.
A combination of two different banding materials is commonly used to provide a combination between strength and longevity.
The assembly of Piggyback support systems with banding and seals requires banding tools.
INSTALLATION

Das Beispiel zeigt eine zweiteilige Konstruktion eines Piggyback-Sattels. In diesem Fall ist der obere Teil auf den unteren Teil aufgesteckt. Bei der Verlegung des Rohres kann der obere Teil abgenommen werden, um so die Rohrverlegung zu erleichtern.
Eine weitere Option wäre eine aus einem Teil geformte Konstruktionmit einem Filmscharnier zwischen dem oberen und dem unteren Teildes Sattels, aber ohne die Möglichkeit, die Abdeckung komplett abzuheben.

DESIGN
Piggyback clamps are always individually designed according tocustomers’ drawings or based on own developments.
The design of the actual block is calculated from the dimensions of thetwo pipelines involved and the height of stand-off required. Furtherconsiderations, which affect this design, are:• if the smaller pipe is required to run free, • if the smaller pipe has to be clamped tightly
by the piggyback clamp.
The example is showing a two-part design of a machined Piggybacksaddle. In this case the upper part is clicked onto the lower part to alleviate the pipe-lay.
Another option would be a moulded single-part design with a filmhinge between the upper and the lower part of the saddle, but withoutthe option to lift the cover completely.
INSTALLATION
Option One:• the use of bandings and sealings• three different materials (Mild Steel, Inconel or Kevlar)• the Mild steel bandings support the blocks during the laying
process (they disintegrate later in the seawater – 6 months) • at the other end the Inconel or Kevlar strapping will remainin
place in the seawater – approximately 20 years
Option Two:• the use of Kevlar strapping with bolts• reduce lay time by up to 50% • reducing the cost of the whole job
The main criterias are, which pressure the blocks are exposed toduring the pipe-laying process, and how long the expected durabilityof the pipeline is.
A combination of two different banding materials is commonly used to provide a combination between strength and longevity.
The assembly of Piggyback support systems with banding and seals requires banding tools.
INSTALLATION
Option Eins:• die Verwendung von Bändern und Verschlüssen • drei unterschiedliche Materialien (Normalstahl, Inconel oder Kevlar) • die Normalstahl-Bänder stabilisieren die Blöcke beim Verlegen (sie
zersetzen sich später im Meerwasser – 6 Monate) • andererseits bleiben die Kevlar- oder Iconel-Bänder über 20
Jahre im Meerwasser bestehen
Option Zwei:• die Verwendung von Kevlar-Bändern mit Bolzen• reduziert die Verlegezeit um bis zu 50% • verringert die Kosten der gesamten Arbeit
Die Hauptkriterien sind, welchem Druck die Blöcke während derVerlegung ausgesetzt werden und wie hoch die erwartete Lebens-dauer der Rohrleitung ist.
Die Kombination aus zwei unterschiedlichen Bandmaterialien wird inder Regel verwendet, um eine Kombination aus Stärke undLanglebigkeit zu bieten.
Die Verbindung der Piggyback-Schellen mit Band und Dichtungenerfordert Spannwerkzeuge.

DESIGN
Piggyback-Schellen werden immer individuell nach Zeichnung desKunden oder auf Basis eigener Entwicklungen angefertigt.
Die Konstruktion der neuen Piggyback-Schelle errechnet sich aus den Abmessungen der beiden beteiligten Rohrleitungen und dem erforderlichen Abstand. Weitere Aspekte, welche bei der Konstruktionzu beachten sind:- die Rohrführung (d.h. das kleinere Rohr ist freilaufend)- die Rohrverankerung (d.h. das kleinere Rohr wird von
der Piggyback-Schelle fixiert
Das Beispiel zeigt eine zweiteilige Konstruktion eines Piggyback-Sattels. In diesem Fall ist der obere Teil auf den unteren Teil aufgesteckt. Bei der Verlegung des Rohres kann der obere Teil abgenommen werden, um so die Rohrverlegung zu erleichtern.
Eine weitere Option wäre eine aus einem Teil geformte Konstruktionmit einem Filmscharnier zwischen dem oberen und dem unteren Teildes Sattels, aber ohne die Möglichkeit, die Abdeckung komplett abzuheben.
