7 5.4 PRESS ADVERTISEMENTS

It was decided that UOF at a national level should buy space in the major newspapers in Oder to place advertisements a few c'avs before" the elections.

5.5 UNITY CHAIN

The feasibility of this project is tc be investigated by the R.E.C. i^ea however was agreed upon in principle.

CONSCIENTIOUS CAMPAIGN

The R.E.C. was asked to appoint a feasibility coimrittee to investigate 2ft the feasibility of a conscientious campaign and make concrete proposals

to the next general council meeting* The committee is to in addition ^make proposals for activities that can be conducted on the election days.

ACTIVITIES IN AFRICAN AREAS

F. Chikane spoke on the need to develop a strategy for the African areas It was decided that he together with M. Chikane would consult with

various organisations on possible action. They were given the powers to co opt others in order to assist in this process.

7. • WHITE AREAS

JODAC reported that a series of membership meetings are being held in order to develope an approach in the white ateas.

8. STRUCTURES

8.1 JOINT PLANNING COUNCIL

It was decided thaw the R.E.C appoint such a council. As a guidline the general council suggested that at least one individual be included from amongst the following : CIVICS, YOUTH, STUDENTS, TRADE UNIONS WOMEN, JODAC, RMC, ANTI P.C. TIC, The R.E.C. and the EAST RAND, WEST RAND JOHANNESBURG CENTRAL, PRETORIA, SOWETO and VAAL AFFILLIATES.

8.2 AREA COMMITTEES

It was reported that meetings were held in JOHANNESBURG, and PRETORIA to discuss the formation of area committees. Meetings would be convened in other areas in due course.

9. GENERAL

9.1 M.A.C requested that the R.E.C. attends to the recent conflict between rival SAAWU members in Pretoria.It was decided that general council-meetings begin at 1pm in future. Delegates were urged to be prompt.The UDF (TVL) Anti Conscription Committee reminded delegates that a workshon is to held on 15 July 1984 at Khotso House.SAAWU requested that detailed agendas be circulated before every council meeting. . •
