Founded in 1961 with a mission to build a future where humans can live in harmony with nature, WWF has since forged unprecedented global partnerships with governments, other NGOs and the private sector, and has inspired individuals to take action and make a difference.

WWF-Hong Kong was founded in 1981. For the past 30 years, we have worked tirelessly to deliver solutions for a living planet through conservation, footprint and education programmes in Hong Kong and across the region

WWF’s Earth Hour is the biggest voluntary environmental action in the world. In 2011, the event attracted more than 2.7 million participants in Hong Kong pledging to adopt a sustainable lifestyle

70%It is estimated that five years after the implementation of the trawling ban—provided the government also bans commercial fishing in marine parks—populations of larger fish, such as groupers and croakers, will have surged by 40 to 70 percent from their current levels

是在所難免,本會並非意圖阻止發展或使用地球資源;

WWF is one of the world’s leading conservation organisations. We work to preserve our precious natural wonders using the best scientific knowledge available, with one goal in mind: a planet where humans can live in harmony with nature. This goal is not easy to achieve, as the interests of people and business often seem at odds with what is best for the environment. However, with steadfast determination, persistence and hard work, these interests can often be balanced and gaps can be bridged.

12WWF Annual Review 2011

Once upon a time, Hong Kong boasted a thriving fishing industry. Today, after decades of intensive and unregulated fishing combined with pollution, reclamation, dredging and dumping, the marine biodiversity in local waters is heavily depleted and some previously common fish species are close to extinction. The cold truth is that Hong Kong waters are not far from ecosystem collapse.

In response to this looming disaster, WWF-Hong Kong launched the SOS “Save Our Seas” campaign in 2004. While the Agricultural, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) made moves to limit fishing by amending existing legislation, we believed at the time that the proposals were not stringent enough to address the desperate situation. The SOS campaign had more comprehensive and far-reaching aims: to protect local marine biodiversity and restore Hong Kong’s fisheries through a drastic reduction in the fishing fleet, and to create alternative livelihoods for the affected fishermen.

In a major victory for Hong Kong fisheries and WWF, the SOS “Save Our Seas” campaign was achieved with the passing of the trawling ban subsidiary legislation on 18 May 2011. This ban, which will put an end to all bottom

and mid-water trawling activities in Hong Kong waters by the end of 2012, was formally passed by the Legislative Council. This is the first true step to restoring the once vibrant ecosystem in local waters.

In 2008, nearly 60,000 people signed the SOS petition, calling for sustainable fisheries management in Hong Kong. This is still a record number for environmental petitions in the city.

Seven years later, some of the campaign’s aims have been achieved. The trawling ban has been passed and will come into full effect on 31 December 2012. It includes a HK$1.72 billion trawler buyout scheme that provides ex-gratia payments to affected inshore trawler owners, a payment to owners who voluntarily surrender their trawlers, and a one-off grant to their local deckhands.

The trawling ban marks a crucial moment in the history of marine conservation in Hong Kong. In one stroke, it will eliminate about 80 percent of the fishing done in local waters, allowing sea-bed communities the chance to finally recover. It is also a testament to WWF’s unremitting efforts to preserve the city’s near-collapsed marine ecosystem. WWF recognises the leadership shown by the government in driving through the ban and sees it as a bold and encouraging step, which will make the SAR a role model for the region. The ban will help to eradicate destructive fishing practices and show the way for the development of sustainable fisheries in Asia and in more distant waters.

In July 2010, hikers and villagers near Sai Kung Country Park witnessed diggers excavating Tai Long Sai Wan, one of the four bays in Hong Kong’s famously beautiful Tai Long Wan. Apart from the damage to vegetation, muddy water ran past an unspoiled stream inside the country park and directly onto the beach. Complaints, promptly followed by media exposure, drew the attention of many to the destructive action. WWF immediately initiated a petition campaign, which was signed by more than 7,000 people in just two weeks. This public outrage was a major factor in forcing the construction project to a halt.

2010-2011 was a challenging

yet historic year for Hong Kong’s environment. Through our successful Save Tai Long Sai Wan petition campaign, WWF-Hong Kong helped both raise awareness about the extent of environmental destruction in our countryside and change people’s perceptions of the value of nature. We continued to advocate sustainable development in Hong Kong; and, while an overarching and holistic conservation policy is still yet to come, we continued to work hard to safeguard nature and reduce the worst impacts of development.

The Sai Wan incident brought into focus the issue of conflict between conservation and development, both in Tai Long Wan and other areas of conservation interests. Through research and perseverance, WWF has always worked hard to increase awareness amongst the public and legislators about the need to address loopholes in policy and legislation. Another approach we used was the “Wall of Destruction” exhibit at the Star Ferry Pier. This well-received exhibition graphically highlighted no less than 49 instances of rural environmental damage that had occurred between 2006 and 2010.

Our work did not stop with the Tai Long Sai Wan petition. Over the course of last year, we reviewed 115 development projects and statutory plans ranging from small village houses to controversial projects like the Integrated Waste Management Facility (an incinerator). We made numerous recommendations on how impacts to biodiversity could be reduced or eliminated.

The best was yet to come, however. In the Chief Executive’s 2010 Policy Address, it was stated that the 50 enclaves adjacent to country parks that are not yet covered by statutory plans will be incorporated into country parks or regulated by statutory planning. WWF is proud to have been part of making this happen. Of these 50 enclaves, seven have so far been covered by draft Development Permission Area (DPA) plans gazetted under the Town Planning Ordinance, which will protect the areas from incompatible development. WWF has made comments on all of these planning proposals, and we will continue to be watchful, always ready to investigate threats to our environment.

Although much of coastal China has rapidly developed into industrial zones, there are many rural areas that still rely on aquaculture for their livelihood. However, a low awareness of the value of wetland conservation means many of the farming and fishing practices in these areas are barely sustainable. Labour-intensive aquaculture, coupled with pollution from factories and construction projects, has placed wetlands in South China under severe threat. The damaging environmental impacts of this extend well beyond China.

These ever-shrinking natural habitats are irreplaceable, and professional management of nature reserves is vital to making existing and future conservation measures a success. With this in mind, WWF-Hong Kong initiated its wetland management training programme two decades ago — in 1991 — to facilitate the management and conservation of wetlands in the East Asian-Australasian Flyway for migratory water birds. Over the past twenty years, we have helped to accomplish a number of major objectives in wetland-related conservation in mainland China, especially in South China.

Two sites we focus particularly on are located in the East Asian-Australasian Flyway: the Zhangjiang Estuary (or Zhangjiangkou) in Fujian Province and Haifeng in Guangdong Province. Both areas are rich in natural wealth. Firstly they are “stop-over sites” where birds can rest and refuel during their migration (similar to Hong Kong’s Mai Po Nature Reserve and Inner Deep Bay). Zhangjiangkou is renowned for its great variety of aquatic products — shrimp, crabs, clams and fish. While the Haifeng site, on the other hand, is valuable because people there still use traditional and yet sustainable fish farming methods; methods which have become extremely rare in this heavily industrialised province.

WWF-Hong Kong’s cross-border cooperation with conservationists in South China continued to pay dividends, with the growth and success of programmes in Zhangjiangkou and Haifeng.

WWF is committed to helping mainland conservationists preserve these invaluable sites and this commitment is reaping rich rewards. In the past year, a number of notable achievements have been made at the Zhangjiangkou Estuary Mangrove National Nature Reserve Education Centre, where WWF helps with project management. The new high-tide roosting site has started to attract water birds, with birdwatchers hot on their heels. The Education Centre also had its official opening, and both the birdwatching hide and education center have quickly become a favorite with visitors. Eco-aquaculture has begun to be adopted by local fishermen and three local products have obtained “non-harmful” certificates. This project has laid a solid foundation for both conservation and the wise use of wetlands in the reserve. It is hoped that this will set an example to other sites around the area.

As for the Haifeng site, the Guangdong Provincial government has been an invaluable conservation partner. Their support for traditional aquaculture methods has been spurred on by early successes in WWF’s Haifeng study and they are starting to provide subsidies to other communities to maintain traditional aquaculture practices. The benefits to both the local community and to water birds have been officially recognised. The construction of education facilities at the site (including an education centre and eco-pond with boardwalk and platform) and the development of education materials for school use were also successfully completed with the aid of WWF as a supervisor.

Furthermore, over the course of 2011, the province is investing RMB$10 million in a larger-scale pilot study. It will examine the compensation of wetland ecological services in six different wetland sites over one year, including the one in Haifeng. If proven successful, this sustainable model can be used in all wetlands throughout Guangdong.

“In these few years, we’ve acquired a lot of knowledge about [sustainable clam raising] through visits, on-the-spot inspections and training. This has greatly increased the annual output of our farming products, and therefore the sales of our products in the market,” says Fang Yanlian, a local razor calm farmer in Zhangjiangkou.

• WWF reviewed 115 development projects and statutory plans ranging from small village houses to controversial projects like the Integrated Waste Management Facilities and made recommendations on how impacts to biodiversity could be reduced or eliminated.

• A scientific study on the distribution of Chinese white dolphins in the western Pearl River Estuary was completed, confirming that the west coast of Macau supports large numbers of dolphins and deserves more protection. The project is sponsored by Aupres.

• At Mai Po Nature Reserve, WWF substantially improved the pond in front of the Tower Hide at Mai Po for water birds. An egretry was also planted using native tree and bamboo species to attract breeding herons and egrets. If successful, this will be the only egretry in Hong Kong located within a protected area. The pond attracted large numbers of roosting duck and three pairs of Black-winged stilts bred there for the first time.

• A 2.7 hectare area at the landward end of Gei wai #16/17 was successfully converted from dry land into a 1.2 hectares extension of the high-tide roost habitat for migratory water birds and two new freshwater ponds totaling 1.5 hectares. Upon completion, the new extension and ponds were immediately used by wintering ducks and large numbers of shorebirds. In addition to this work, the perimeter and cross-channels in Gei wai #18 were de-silted to restore open water and increase the water volume for fish and shrimp.

• With the donation from the Wai Yin Association and the Operation Santa Claus, WWF has upgraded the facilities in Mai Po, enabling the site to be accessible to disabled visitors, and also introduced a butterfly garden. In all, 13 tours were arranged for 300 physically and mentally handicapped visitors. Operation Santa Claus also sponsored the “Wetlander” programme which brought children from Small Group Homes to a number of local wetlands, including Mai Po.

• A total of 14,500 students and 15,288 members of the public visited the Mai Po Nature Reserve.

• The Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund helped WWF to upgrade the indoor facilities at the Mai Po Education Centre, making the delivery of education programmes even smoother.

• An online virtual tour of Mai Po was launched, (wwf.org.hk/virtualmaipo) which will help spread awareness of the importance of the Mai Po wetlands, and allow people all over the world a glimpse of the beauty and singularity of this precious Ramsar Site.

• The ecological baseline monitoring of birds, habitats and threats to the wetlands’ diversity at Mai Po continued. In December 2010, one of our 47 satellite-tracked ducks returned to Mai Po, ending an epic migratory journey.

28WWF Annual Review 2011

It is a proven fact that an increasing numbers of shark species are being threatened with extinction. The demand for shark fin is one of the main factors driving the unsustainable global shark fishery, and Hong Kong is one of the largest consumers and trade hubs of shark fin products. These facts are the driving force behind WWF-Hong Kong’s “Say No to Shark Fin” campaign.

In 1996, only 15 shark and related species were listed as Threatened by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Red List. In 2010, over 180 species were considered Threatened, a 12-fold increase. These figures led to a surge in debate across Hong Kong society about the need to stop consuming shark fin. WWF responded to this debate by trying to provide greater options for companies and individuals wishing to avoid its consumption.

WWF has a number of ways for people and organisations across Hong Kong to get involved with the campaign. We urge restaurants to join our “Alternative Shark-free Menu” programme, to actively promote a no shark fin banquet menu to their customers, and to use our Seafood Guide when purchasing seafood in restaurants, wet markets or supermarkets. We urge consumers to stop eating shark fin products, and to tell their hosts at banquets and corporate functions in advance that they do not want to be served this dish. We also urge our corporate members to join our programme and promote it to their own staff and business partners.

All these initiatives have been met with a healthy response, and we anticipate that this campaign will grow in popularity and scope.

Our campaign to bring a halt to the consumption of unsustainable shark fin products across Hong Kong is growing stronger and gaining ground. Over one hundred

corporations and organisations have now made a pledge that they will not sell, promote or consume shark fin as part of their corporate activities.

• 關掉不必要的電燈-84%;

• 拒絕備用電器-73%;

• 使用資源前三思,減少廢物-55%;

The Earth Hour campaign, first organised by WWF in Australia in 2007, is now the biggest-ever voluntary environmental action in the world. It encourages individuals, organisations and businesses around the globe to switch off their lights for an hour on the evening of the last Saturday in March. But it also goes beyond saving energy for one particular hour: it highlights how small changes can collectively make an impact. This year, we widened the scope with the event motto “Go beyond the hour, consume wisely”, and urged people to look at their ecological footprint and at the same time reduce wasteful consumption.

A survey conducted by TNS after Earth Hour 2011 revealed both its immediate impact and longer-term influence. Based on figures provided by the two power companies in Hong Kong, electricity consumption dropped by about four percent between eight and nine o’clock on the night. In addition, over 80 percent of participants surveyed made a commitment to sustainable living beyond the hour. In particular:

• 84 percent pledged that they would turn off lights when not in use;

• 73 percent said they would turn off appliances when not in use, not just put them on standby;

• 55 percent said they would reduce waste by thinking twice before consuming;

• 46 percent said they would stop consuming shark fin products;

Earth Hour has been sustaining consistently high levels of support since it launched in Hong Kong

three years ago. At 8:30pm on 26 March, over 2.7 million individuals, 3,200 companies, organisations and buildings, 320 schools and all the universities in Hong Kong switched off their lights for one hour.

The participation of 2.7 million individuals and the results of the survey show that Hong Kong people care about the future of our planet and that they are willing and ready to commit to sustainable living.

Building on this momentum, WWF also worked at a policy level in 2010-2011, providing pragmatic solutions and suggestions to the government, to help them transform Hong Kong into a sustainable city. In the last twelve months alone, we released a wide-ranging climate policy address with suggestions on various waste and emission reduction solutions, and a road map listing different reduction solutions up to the year 2020 along with a proposed carbon-reduction target for Hong Kong. To help spur rational and scientific discussion on the issue, WWF also organised a series of climate forums and workshops with key stakeholders. We invited the Secretary of Environment, senior management staff from power companies, local scholars and international experts to discuss the topics of climate solutions, demand-side management and nuclear power, and engage in open dialogue with the public.

Looking forward, WWF will continue to work on policy advocacy and strive to make the political landscape greener.

• The Hong Kong Ecological Footprint Report 2010 was released in January 2011. The report confirms that Hong Kong people are living beyond the limits of sustainability: Hong Kong’s latest Ecological Footprint is 4.0 global hectares (gha) per person, more than double the amount of biocapacity available. The report is accessible online at: wwf.org.hk/reports/footprint

• Over 4,000 people joined our Climateers programme to support a low-carbon lifestyle in 2010. The new additions take the total number of Climateers to over 18,000 and makes it the largest climate-related public engagement platform in Hong Kong.

• Our online carbon calculator continues to help people live sustainably. In 2010, over 1,100 people pledged to measure and reduce their carbon footprint. In total, almost 7,000 individuals have now used our online and mobile phone version of carbon calculator. The collective savings pledged by individuals are equivalent to 7,200 tonnes of CO2 per year.

• The My Baby Shark Campaign was successfully launched in early March. Designed to both raise awareness about the plight of sharks and funding for WWF’s shark conservation programme, the My Baby Shark package includes a keychain, a personalised e-certificate, and a symbolic shark on Google Maps.

• Since its launch in 2009, over 90 offices in Hong Kong have joined our Low-carbon Office Operation Programme (LOOP). The carbon emissions generated by the operations of these verified offices decreased from four tonnes per employee in 2010 to 3.52 tonnes in 2011; an impressive 12 percent reduction.

• In 2011, 32 additional factories in the Pearl River Delta region participated in our acclaimed Low-Carbon Manufacturing Programme (LCMP). The average annual reduction in carbon intensity of the eight factories accredited with LCMP labels was 7.2% in 2010.

• The Ocean Friendly Menu continues to gather support. 26 hotels, clubhouses and restaurants are now participating in this programme to develop seafood menu according to WWF-Hong Kong’s Seafood Guide, which helps consumers choose ocean-friendly seafood. 97 hotels and restaurants have joined the “Alternative Shark-free Menu” Programme.

• Our Green Spring Dinner programme has also continued to gather momentum. The programme, which encourages everyone in Hong Kong to make their annual spring dinner an ocean-friendly one, gained the support of a further nine companies with over 5,500 employees; bringing the total number of supporters in 2010 and 2011 to over 10,000.

36WWF Annual Review 2011

Hong Kong recently reorganised its secondary and tertiary school system. One main focus of the new curriculum is Liberal Studies, of which sustainable development is an important component. WWF has become one of the first environmental organisations in Hong Kong to adapt their education programme to the Education Bureau’s New Senior Secondary Curriculum.

WWF’s education programmes are always well-received. The programmes are not only fun and informative, but practical — as they give both students and teachers experiential, hands-on learning opportunities. The Climate Change Teacher Professional Development Programme is the latest example of such a programme: it helps Liberal Studies teachers gain valuable knowledge on climate change through seminars and workshops. This programme is being run over the course of 15 months and in three phases: the first will be educational activities and materials fitting into the Liberal Studies modules, the second will be through partner school activities that inspire students to develop an interest in sustainable development issues for their studies, and the third will see seminars and workshops for non-partner schools being offered.

We offer teachers the means to vary learning experiences for their students including the Using Mobile Technology for Environmental Education and Scientific Exploration at Mai Po Wetlands Programme. In 2011, this six-month scheme helped 200 secondary school teachers to develop their own engaging and fun ESD activities. The focus was on using mobile technology — such as netbooks, digital cameras and internet resources — to teach students about nature and conservation.

Looking ahead, the WWF Education Team will continue to emphasise progressive learning and in doing so both raise students’ awareness of conservation issues and give them the ability to make meaningful change by themselves. Our goal is to provide such education to as many people as we can, both in Hong Kong and across the region.

40WWF Annual Review 2011

The AsiA PAcific GrowTh sTrATeGy

WWF-Hong Kong has been one of the principle drivers of the Asia Pacific Growth Strategy (APGS) since its inception in 2006. The genesis of the APGS was a recognition that the WWF offices in the region needed to become more self-reliant to deliver the conservation outcomes within the Global Programme Framework (GPF) created by WWF International. In essence the GPF defines a series of initiatives on a massive scale to address and solve the foremost conservation challenges faced by mankind. These initiatives include the Heart of Borneo, the Congo basin and the Amazon reforestation projects, and the Coral Triangle Network Initiative focusing on the preservation of the most diverse coral reefs in the Asia Pacific region. As the reader can imagine these projects are massive both in terms of geographic scale and monetary needs. The level of investment in our regional initiatives such as the Coral Triangle, the Living Himalayas, the Tiger Initiative and the China for a Global Shift programme needs to be increased in order to deliver our conservation objectives.

The services of Accenture, a professional consultancy were hired to assist the Asia Pacific offices develop a suitable and appropriate strategy for the region. The analysis revealed that the level of investment in marketing and fundraising in the Asia Pacific was inadequate to take advantage of its rapid economic growth. The strategy identified market segments in each country and helped to set out the Return on Investment (ROI) for each segment in each country. It sets out both a series of fiscal disciplines seldom seen in the NGO world, and improvements in areas such as governance structure. The CEO of WWF-Hong Kong is also the Chairman of a small group known as the Shareholder Executive Team. This is the decision making body reporting back to the Shareholder Group, consisting of representatives from all WWF offices in the region.

Page 43: REVIEW 50Years HK 70awsassets.wwfhk.panda.org/downloads/wwf_ar2011_full.pdf在2011年就吸引超過270萬名港人參與,承諾採取可 持續發展的生活模式 WWF’s Earth

41

Inherent in the APGS are a series of first principles:

• Alignment with the GPF as established by WWF International.

• A committment to invest at least 20 percent of unrestricted funds raised in marketing and fund- raising capacity.

• The use of financial tools and investment discipline principles to identify best practices.

• To openly share best practices in order to support one another.

• To coincide with the operational objectives of WWF International in the development of the Singapore office as a regional hub.

• All offices are recognised as equals and share in both the benefits and the responsibilities.

WWF-Hong Kong has a vital role to play in this strategy. First there is the talent pool within our office that provides tremendous logistical support to the strategy. There is leadership in fundraising and marketing expertise. Also we are on the doorstep to one of our principle markets, in terms of conservation and fundraising potentiality, China.

The core principle of the APGS is the collaboration amongst the various offices in the region. Our goal is conservation. Our strategy is to develop and use the talents within the region and the network to increase the funding available to achieve that goal.

Total income in FY 2011 was HK$69.8 million, an increase of 12.9%, versus FY 2010. Both individual and corporate donations continued to be our major sources of income, contributing 37.7% and 27.0% respectively.

Our total individual donations were HK$26.3 million, of which individual membership contributed 88.6% (HK$23.3 million, which grew by 1.7%) while other general donations stood at 6.4% (HK$1.7 million), and major donation at 4.9% (HK$1.3 million).

Corporate donations were the second largest revenue component at HK$18.8 million. 57.9% of this segment was unrestricted income primarily from our Corporate Membership Programme (HK$8 million).

The remaining 42.1% was in the form of restricted corporate donations (HK$7.9 million) for specific conservation and education programmes, such as the HSBC/WWF South China Wetlands Project (from the Hong Kong Bank Foundation) and the technical support on Chinese white dolphin project (from Aupres).

Among our fundraising events, Walk for Nature contributed significant unrestricted funds to WWF. This major annual event proved to be a success in FY 2011 with HK$3 million being raised (from both individuals and corporations).

We continued to receive significant donations from several trusts and foundations, such as The Swire Group Charitable Trust.

44WWF Annual Review 2011

Total spending for the year was HK$68.8 million. Similar to last year, our investment in conservation was 53.4% of the total expenditure reflecting our focus on developing climate, wetlands management and other conservation programmes (HK$36.7 million). We also invested HK$3.7 million in community education through our Mai Po and Hoi Ha Wan centres. The Earth Hour campaign recorded as Communications Expenses attracted more than 2.7 million participants, showing strong support in the fight against climate change. Membership management expenditure is our next major investment. This is an essential component for extending our messages to supporters, as an informed supporter is an avid conservationist. We continued our investment in community education in line with our goal of educating our next generation. As in previous years, we contributed a percentage of our “Total Donated Income” to achieve WWF International to support their global objectives.

In 2011, our total income grew by 12.9%. The biggest contribution came from individual membership donations amounting to HK$23.3 million. It has experienced considerable growth in the past but this is beginning to slow down as there is increased competition in the marketplace. The Corporate sector revenues, both Unrestricted and Restricted, continue to expand which is a reflection of our strategy of engagement.

The total expenditure increased by 12.1% principally in Project Expenditures and a massive increase in our commitment to the Earth Hour campaign. The increased conservation spend focused on our three Climate Change Programmes: Climateers for individuals, LOOP for commercial offices and LCMP for Pearl River Delta factories.

In coming years, we will continue our mission with a well defined strategic direction. With a strong team of experts in the organisation, we have confidence to be a leading environmental agency in Hong Kong, and our region.

46WWF Annual Review 2011

Corporate GovernanCe

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of WWF-Hong Kong is held every year, usually in November, and is attended by trustee members. Executive Council members are elected by the trustee members at the AGM. Their term of appointment is three years and there is a rotation of members. This means that one third of the members retire each year, but are eligible for re-election. Casual vacancies may be filled by co-option, but the member in question is subject to election at the next AGM. The Executive Council, which meets on average five times per year, is the main governing body and is responsible for setting strategic direction, approving the annual budget and conservation programmes, and regularly reviewing the operations of the organisation. They are assisted in this work by various subcommittees, the chairpersons of which sit on the Executive Council.

48WWF Annual Review 2011

Our Thanks

As our planet’s resources become more and more scarce, the pressures on the world’s ecosystems and everything living within them are growing ever-greater. This fact makes WWF’s conservation work an urgent and vital task.

Working effectively in this high-pressure environment takes time, dedication and sustained financing. Without the encouragement and great generosity of our corporate and individual members, it would be impossible to continue our conservation and education projects.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you, for allowing us to fulfill our mission, and for helping to create a better future where humans can live with harmony with nature. Sadly due to space limitations, we cannot name every one of you. But you know who you are, and we thank you.

Founded in 1961 with a mission to build a future where humans can live in harmony with nature, WWF has since forged unprecedented global partnerships with governments, other NGOs and the private sector, and has inspired individuals to take action and make a difference.

70%It is estimated that five years after the implementation of the trawling ban—provided the government also bans commercial fishing in marine parks—populations of larger fish, such as groupers and croakers, will have surged by 40 to 70 percent from their current levels
