The Oyster Perpetual Explorer, built to meet the demands of professionals,

is the successor to the original Explorer that accompanied Sir Edmund

Hillary and Tenzing Norgay to the sum mit of Mount Everes t. Faithful to its

heritage and unique identity, the Explorer features a Parachrom hairspring

and Paraflex shock absorbers, reaching new heights of chronometric

precision and resistance to extreme conditions.

On 29 May 1953, the explorers Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay, with their

Oyster, took their rst steps on the roof of the world, at an altitude of precisely 8,848 metres.

The rst victorious ascent of Mount Everest. The same year, in a tribute to this historic feat,

robustness, autonomy and legibility, with the launch of the Explorer II.

Three hundred miles from the nearest land,

the Arctic Ocean laps at the edge of the sea

ice, only yards from Alain Huberts feet.

While previous explorers encountered ice

many metres thick, Hubert nds only water

where the Ocean should normally be frozen

into a thick multi-year ice pack. Dogged by

anomalous sea ice conditions, Hubert is re-

peatedly forced to nd an alternative route

across the now open waters. Still 120 kilo-

metres from his goal, each new discovery of

fractured ice leads him to fear for the worst.

14 June 2007: Alain Hubert and Dixie Dan-sercoers 106-day crossing ends, but the

journey is far from over. Hubert continues

his quest to nd the cause of this change in

the ice.

Rolex uses 904L steel for its steel watch cases. 904L is usual-ly reserved for the chemical industry, where maximum resis-

tance against corrosion is essential. 904L marries perfectly

created the blue Parachrom hairspring. Craft-

ed from a paramagnetic alloy, it is unaffected

by magnetic elds and up to 10 times moreresistant to shocks. Historically, the unique

blue colour of the hairspring has been a

sign of prestige reserved for only the most

accurate timepieces. Today, it guarantees the

OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED engraved on the timepieces dial

days and nights of testing by the COSC (Contrle Ofciel
