Ihr Lieben Leser, dear readers, Wir habe gerade einen erfolgreichen Tour de Krantz hinter uns und sind sehr dankbar für den Bonus Segen von +-60mm Regen in Harburg. Der Herr ist sehr gnädig. Einen riesen Dank an alle die sehr fleissig gearbeitet haben. Many things have been going on in the media and around us that we need to keep in our prayers. As Martin Luther says in the caption:

We have included a helpful and informative article on “Helping a rape survivor”(p19). This is such a traumatic and awful occurrence that one doesn't know how to deal with it. Noch ein Thema in den Nachrichten sind die negativen Berichte des Rassismus. Dieses Thema beeinflusst unsere Jugend und wir als Eltern sollten mit unseren Kindern darüber diskutieren. Sie sind schließlich die zukünftigen Leiter unseres Landes... - the future inheritors of our country. How does one deal with this? How would they deal with it? Another topic is regarding the immense poverty and poor education that is rife in our area. The TDK helps towards funding of the Harburg Orphan Project in Efaye - see photo on p25. Thank you to the collection of old clothing that was handed over to the Vianney Childrens Home(p9). Wir dürfen nicht den Mut verlieren. God sees what we do and it is to honour Him. Beim Erntedankfest geben wir Dank für unsere Gaben und Ernten. We show thanks in the way of donating-crops but it can also be in the form of money and giving of our talents, doing volunteer work, helping the aged, feeding the poor or whatever need there is. Let your time ahead be doing things that “really matter”. Do not become despon-dent. Der Herr hat einen Plan für uns. Seid geduldig und vergißt nicht:

“Seeing through God’s eyes” “I have loved you with an everlasting love; There-fore with loving kindness I have drawn you and continued My faithfulness to you.

Jeremiah 31v3 (Watchword – September 2016)

Once there was a wife who loved her husband. Often her friends would tease her however about how ugly her husband is. She wouldn’t get angry. She just responded and said, in my eyes he is the most handsome man I have ever seen. If only you had my eyes. What do you think she meant when she said, “If only you had my eyes?” If you get to know someone for who they really are, you start to see them through “different eyes.” If you love that person you also start to see them through “different eyes.” Suddenly you are able to see the gifts and talents this person has. Suddenly you are able to see them and not just their eyes, nose, hair or chin. This is how God sees us. He sees us through eyes of everlasting love. People often mock or “tease” God when they ask how God could love someone they look down on? “They are so terrible, look at what they have done, how could God love them?” Or people would mock God when they think about themselves, “I am so ugly, so terrible, so weak, I have no talents or gifts, how could God love me?” God loves you with an everlasting love and He draws you to Himself because He sees you through eyes of love that see you for who are and could become. He sees the strengths, gifts and value he created in you from the beginning. He sees you through eyes that really see you because He created you. More importantly, God sees us through His death and resurrection as Je-sus Christ. Through this sacrifice and love God sees his children as beautiful and clean, healed and made whole. Through the sacrifice of Jesus, even the “ugliest” life can be made beautiful. This is not something we can do, but rather something God does in us; let how He sees us change how we see ourselves. Let us love God with an everlasting love. Let us love others with His love. Let us trust in His everlasting love and favour towards us. Amen

Bäume sind unser Schicksal

Vom Anfang an ist der Baum mit dem Menschen schicksalhaft verbunden Das Greifen nach der verbotenen Frucht vom Baum, der Erkenntnis des Guten und des Bösen brachte dem Menschen die Trennung von Gott und die Vertreibung aus dem Paradies. Gott versperrte den Menschen den Zugang zum Baum des Lebens. Seitdem leben wir jenseits von Eden mit der unstillbaren Sehnsucht nach diesem Lebensbaum. Ein Menschenleben und die ganze Menschheitgeschichte sucht die Früchte dieses Baumes:

erfülltes, bleibendes Leben.

Unter einem Baum begann das Unglück der Menschen. Unter einem Baum wird einmal die Sehnsucht der Menschen zur Erfüllung gelangen. „Und er zeigte mir … Bäume des Lebens, die tragen zwölfmal Früchte, jeden Monat bringen sie ihre Frucht, und die Blätter der Bäume dienen zur Heilung der Völker.“ Offenbarung 22v1-2 Aber auch jenseits von Eden ist der Baum unser Schicksal. Der aus dem Paradies vertriebene Mensch findet sich in einer Welt voller Gefahren. Da wird der Baum sein erster Zufluchtsort. Die Äste bieten Schutz vor wilden Tieren. Die Blätter bedecken vor heißen Sonne und kaltem Regen, schützt gegen Wind und Wetter. Die Früchte ernähren den Hungrigen. Blätter und Wurzeln spenden Heilkräfte den Kranken. Das Holzfeuer wärmt die Frierenden. Bäume sind in aller Bedrohung die Freunde des Menschen und Garantien seines Lebensraumes. Aller Segen und Nutzen des Baumes, alle Heilkraft und Frucht, die er bringt, aller Schutz, den er gewährt, weisen hin auf das eine Heil, das Jesus am Baumstamm des Kreuzes für uns erstarb.

NB !!! ONE flower arrangement is required in the Church and ONE in the C.C. It is up to each individual as to whether they feel they would like to do two arrangements in the church. Only ONE arrangement is needed when there is Holy Communion.

Dear Harburg Congregation We have now been in Australia for over two months, and we cannot be-lieve how fast the time is going! Our journey thus far has been a wonder-ful one and we would like to give thanks and acknowledge the Lord in all ways in His undertaking of our journey and experiences here so far. We have been extremely blessed to have to come to a lovely farming commu-nity in which we have made some incredible friends and been welcomed and accepted. There are 48 South Africans in this community and this has contributed greatly to our settling in. We have been fortunate to have found a great little Spiritual home in the Mallee Life Church and for this we are grateful. Getting used to doing everything ones self has been an adaption and one realises how spoilt we have been before.....I can now say we are both slim, trim, strong and healthy!!!! One quickly adapts and embraces the new way of life! The children have settled in brilliantly. Overall we are settled, happy and well! We do miss you all though! We would both like to take this opportunity to thank you all in Harburg for the love, support, care and prayer that you have given us both in the build up to leaving as well as to the continued prayers and support we still receive from you now. You are often in our thoughts and not forgotten!

Contemporary Music Festival

Dear brothers and sisters, on Sunday

24 July 2016, a Contemporary Music

Festival was held in the New Germany

Lutheran Church.

The theme “Comfort” for the sermon

and service was based on the watch-

word for 2016, Isaiah 66v13, “As a

mother comforts her child, so I will

comfort you over Jerusalem.” About

42 musicians took part of which there

were 15 guitarists, 2 base guitarists, 1 drummer on a drum set and an-

other 2 with beat boxes, 4 pianists, 4 flutists, 1 trumpet, 3 keyboards, 5

on recorders of all sizes and a few people singing along with no instru-

ments. There were about 150 visitors at the church service that was held

in English. This is an event for everyone!

What is the Contemporary Music Festival? The choirs have Choir Festi-

vals. The brass bands have Brass Band Festivals and all the English

“Worship Bands” have now had the 2nd Contemporary Music Festi-

val. This is something new and exciting. Although most congregations

call their English music teams, “Worship Teams” we call this festival the

Contemporary Music Festival because all forms of music and singing in

our church are praise and worship.

Helping a rape survivor 05 December 2011

Rape not only affects the survivor but also those close to the per-

son. What can you do to help a rape survivor? We live in a violent society where a shocking one in three women will be raped. Rape not only affects the survivor but also those close to the person. What can you do to help a rape survivor? A good place to start is to understand your own reactions. It is normal to feel overwhelmed, helpless, angry, powerless and even guilty when this has happened to someone you love. You may also feel the need to take control and to want to make things better for her. Sometimes it is easier for you to pretend that it never happened and to avoid talking about it. Learn as much as you can about rape and remember that you also need support to deal with your own reactions and emotions and to remain strong enough to offer the best help you can. What does she need? The People Opposed to Women Abuse (POWA) has the following advice:

• Medical attention: The survivor should be encouraged to seek medical attention even if she does not appear to be injured. She needs to find out if she has any internal injuries and de-termine her risk of pregnancy, HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. If she decides to report to the police, she will need to go to a special rape centre or see a district surgeon for a medico-legal examination before she baths and gets treated for any injuries or illnesses. Most private hospitals and government hospitals in large centres are equipped to deal with rape cases.

• Police intervention: She must make the decision about whether to report and you must support her choice. If she wants to report, you can offer to go with her to the police station and stay with her while she makes her statement. Emotional support: You can help by giving her information about professionals and organisa-tions that have knowledge about rape, has skill in working with rape survivors and knows about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. What about emotional support?

• Talking: Make it clear that you are available and willing to hear what she needs to say. Show her that you believe her.

• Reassurance: Rape survivors often feel guilty and ashamed about what happened. She needs to hear that the rape wasn’t her fault. She also needs to believe that whatever she did dur-ing the assault was the right thing to do because it saved her life. Regaining control: She needs to resume control of her body, her feelings and her life. Don’t tell her what to do or put pressure on her to do things she isn’t ready for – especially having sex. Support her choices and be patient. Avoid being overly protective – this reinforces her sense of vulnerability and lack of control. The Contemporary Music Festival is for anyone and everyone. Anyone

who can play an instrument and has a passion for worshipping God

with others in a “worship team” is highly encouraged to take part. It is

so inspiring to worship God with the talents, whether professional mu-

sician or interested beginner.

Erntedank früher und andernorts Die Erntefeste sind in früheren Jahrhunderten durch die Gutsherren ent-standen, die alle Mägde und Knechte, zum Beispiel mit Erntebier und einem festlichen Essen bewirteten. In Schottland gibt es übrigens heute noch zum Erntedankfest die Ernte-Suppe Hotch-Potch. Eine Suppe aus frischem Fleisch und den besten Gar-tengemüsen. Sie ist eine Spezialität und gilt als besonders heilkräftig. In einigen Landstrichen wird aus den letzten Strohgarben eine Erntepuppe hergestellt, die als Opfergabe auf dem Feld bleibt. Anderswo wird die Erntepuppe zum Fest mitgenommen. Heute sieht man noch manchmal solche Puppen auf dem Feld. Die sind dann meistens aus Strohballen ge-fertigt. So unterschiedlich das Brauchtum in den verschiedenen Regionen und Ländern auch ist, eines ist überall gleich: Am Erntedankfest bedanken sich die Menschen bei Gott für die Erde und ihre Früchte und für die Fülle an Früchten und Nahrungsmitteln, die es bei uns gibt. Das Erntedankfest

Das Erntedankfest ist eines der ältesten Feste überhaupt.

Früher lebten über 80 Prozent aller Menschen auf und vom

Land. Im Winter waren sie von der eingebrachten Ernte ab-

hängig. Deshalb dankten sie Gott am Ende der Erntezeit für

das Gedeihenlassen der Früchte. Das Erntedankfest zeigt,

dass das täglich Brot eben gar nicht so alltäglich ist, sondern

hart erarbeitet werden muss.

Die Idee des Erntedankfestes geht wahrscheinlich auf vorchristliche Re-

ligionen zurück. Schon im Judentum und in römischen Religionen feierte

man im Herbst die lebensnotwendigen, reichen Gaben der Erde. Das bei

uns verbreitete Erntedankfest geht vermutlich auf römisches Brauchtum

zurück und wird seit dem 3. Jahrhundert nach Christi Geburt gefeiert.

Erntedank in den christlichen Kirchen

In der evangelischen Kirche feiert man Erntedank am ersten Sonntag nach

Michaelis (29. September). In der katholischen Kirche gibt es keinen fest-

gelegten Termin, meistens ist es aber der erste Sonntag im Oktober.

Körbe mit Früchten oder eine Erntekrone werden an der Altar gebracht.

Die Krone ist aus Ähren geflochten und mit Feldfrüchten geschmückt. Im

Gottesdienst wird Gott für die gute Ernte gedankt.

To all the people who so willingly gave up of their time to work, bake, cook, grow vegetables, process cold meats, donated money, bought raffles, played in the brass band, donated provisions, and cleaned the premises, set up the cycle track, manned the water holes, and for all security in keeping our venue and people safe, and much much more, thank you to everyone. We were blessed with a cool day, just a bit drizzly, a good turnout of cyclists, runners and visitors from near and far, and I am sure everyone will be back for next year’s Tour de Krantz.
