Safety precautionsInformation for parents Please read the operating instructions and safety precautions carefully before use. Explain the content to your children and the hazards associated with using the phone.

Remember to comply with legal requirements and local restrictions when using the phone. For example, in aero-planes, petrol stations, hospi-tals or while driving.Mobile phones can interfere with the functioning of medical devices such as hearing aids or pacemakers. Keep at least 20 cm between phone and pacemaker. When using the mobile phone hold it to the ear which is further away from the pacemaker. For more informa-tion consult your doctor.The ringtones (p. 80), info tones (p. 85) and handsfree talking are reproduced through the loudspeaker. Do not hold the phone to your ear when it rings or when you have switched on the handsfree function (p. 25). Otherwise you risk serious per-manent damage to your hearing.Do not place the phone near to electromagnetic data carriers such as credit cards and floppy disks. Information stored on them could be lost.

Only use original Siemens bat-teries (100 % mercury-free) and charging devices. Otherwise you risk serious damage to health and property. The battery could explode, for instance.Do not look at the LED (e.g. ac-tivated infrared port, flash LED) with optical magnifiers because of radiation.This product complies with IEC/EN 60825-1 “Safety of La-ser Products” for LED Class 1M products; such products are safe under reasonably foresee-able operating conditions.Small parts such as the SIM card, sealing stop, lens ring and lens cap can be dismantled and swallowed by small chil-dren. The mains voltage specified on the power supply unit (V) must not be exceeded. Otherwise the charging device may be destroyed.The power supply must be plugged into an easily accessi-ble AC mains power socket when charging the battery. The only way to turn off the charging device after charging the bat-tery is to unplug it.All electrical and electronic products should be disposed of separately from the municipal waste stream via designated collection facilities appointed by the government or the local au-thorities.This crossed-out wheeled bin symbol on the product means the product is covered by the European Directive 2002/96/EC.The correct disposal and sepa-rate collection of your old appli-ance will help prevent potential negative consequences for the environment and human health. It is a precondition for reuse and recycling of used electrical and electronic equipment.For more detailed information about disposal of your old appli-ance, please contact your city office, waste disposal service or the shop where you purchased the product.

You may only open the phone to replace the battery (100 % mercury-free) or SIM card. You must not open the battery under any circumstances. Getting startedInserting the SIM card/batteryThe service provider supplies you with a SIM card on which all the im-portant data for your line is stored. If the SIM card has been delivered in credit-card size, snap the smaller segment out and remove any rough edges.

• Press and hold down the catch 1, then push cover towards the front in the direction indicated by the arrow 2.

• Place the SIM card in front of the slot with the contact surface fac-ing downwards. Then press the SIM card slightly to push it in 3 (ensure that the chamfered corner is in the correct position).

• Insert the battery sideways into the phone 4, then press it down-wards 5 until it engages.

• To remove, press the retaining tab on the side of the battery, then lift the battery out.

• Place the battery cover, then push it towards the front 6, until it clicks into place.

Charging the batteryCharging the batteryThe battery is not fully charged when delivered. Plug charger cable into the bottom of the phone, plug power supply unit into a mains pow-er socket and charge for at least two hours. As an alternative, the battery can be charged via the USB port (see Accessories, page 127).

Y Display during charging.

Charging timeAn empty battery is fully charged af-ter about 2 hours. Charging is only possible within a temperature range of +5 °C to 45 °C. If the temperature rises/falls 5 °C above/below this, the charge symbol flashes a warning. The mains voltage specified on the power supply unit must not be exceeded.

Operating timeThe operating time depends upon the respective conditions of use. Ex-treme temperatures considerably re-duce the phone’s standby time. Avoid placing the phone in the sun or on a heater.

Call time: 100 to 330 minutesStand-by time: 60 to 300 hours

Charge icon not visibleIf the battery has been discharged fully, the charge icon is not immedi-ately visible when the power supply is plugged in. It will appear after up to two hours. In this case the battery is fully charged after 3 to 4 hours.

Only use the plug-in power supply included in delivery!

Display while in serviceCharge level display during opera-tion (empty–full):

V W X A beep sounds when the battery is nearly empty. The charge level of the battery is only displayed correctly af-ter an uninterrupted charging/dis-charging cycle. You should therefore not remove the battery unnecessarily and where possible not finish the charging process prematurely.

Additional informationThe power supply unit heats up when used for long periods. This is normal and not dangerous.If the battery is removed for longer than 30 seconds, the clock must be reset.

Clearing SIM card barringIf the PIN is entered incorrectly three times, the SIM card is barred. Enter the PUK (MASTER PIN) provided by your service provider with the SIM card in accordance with the in-structions. If the PUK (MASTER PIN) has been lost, please contact your service provider.

Preventing accidental activationEven if PIN use is deactivated (page 17) confirmation is required to switch on the phone.

This prevents accidental activation of the phone, e.g. when you are carrying it in a bag or when you are travelling in an aircraft.

T9 word suggestionsIf several options are found in the dictionary for a key sequence (a word), the most probable is dis-played first. If the word you want has not been recognised, the next sug-gestion from T9 may be correct.

When the new connection is established:

Tone sequences (DTMF)You can, for example, enter control codes (numbers) for remote access to an automatic answering machine while another connection exists. These entries are transmitted directly as DTMFcodes (control codes).

GroupsNine groups are specified in your phone to enable you to arrange your Addressbook entries clearly. You can rename seven groups.

PhonebookEntries in the Phonebook (on the SIM card) are managed separately from those in the Addressbook. You can, however, exchange data between the Phonebook and the Address-book.

New entryIf the Phonebook has been selected as standard:

characters available is shown at the top of the display.

Number:Always enter phone number with prefix. An entry is not saved without a phone number.

Name: Enter first and/or last names.

Location: Default: SIMSpecial SIM cards can save phone numbers in a protected area (Protected SIM) (PIN2 required).Record number: Each entry is automatically assigned a record number. You can also dial using the record number.

Call recordsThe phone number of a caller is dis-played if

• the caller has switched off the Incognito function and

• the network supports the "Caller Identity" function.

Alternatively, a caller’s name is dis-played if it is stored in the Phone-book/Addressbook.

Your phone stores the phone num-bers of calls for convenient redialling.

InboxThe central input folder offers imme-diate access to the messages cur-rently received. This means that you no longer have to look through all in-put folders for the various message types. The entries are marked with a symbol to indicate their type and sta-tus. You will find a list of the symbols on page 7.

To call up the central input folder, e.g. if a new SMS has been received:
