Parkführung Herrenhäuser Gärten

Mitten in Hannover liegen die Herrenhäuser Gärten, die 1638 ihren

Ursprung durch den Herzog Georg von Calenberg fanden. Der

einstige Gemüsegarten hat sich über die Jahrhunderte zu einem

gärtnerischen Schmuckstück entwickelt, das bis heute nahezu un-

verändert erhalten geblieben ist. Mittelpunkt der Anlage ist der Große

Garten, eine rund 50 ha große Anlage im Stil barocker französischer

Gartenkunst. Dazu kommen der Welfengarten, der Georgengarten

sowie der Berggarten, einer der ältesten botanischen Gärten

Deutschlands. Das Schloss Herrenhausen, erbaut im 17. Jahr-

hundert und im Zweiten Weltkrieg vollständig abgebrannt, konnte

2012 durch eine private Stiftung rekonstruiert werden und dient heute

als Tagungszentrum und Museum. Der angrenzende Barockgarten

war immer wieder Schauplatz großer Feste und Kulturveran-

staltungen. So findet zum Beispiel jedes Jahr der Internationale

Feuerwerkswettbewerb im Großen Garten statt, an dem die besten

Pyrotechniker aus der ganzen Welt teilnehmen.

Die Führung wird auf Deutsch und auf Englisch angeboten.

Park tour Herrenhausen Gardens

In the heart of Hannover lie the Herrenhausen Gardens, which in

1638 originated with Duke Georg von Calenberg. The once known as

a vegetable garden has changed over the centuries, becoming a

green jewel, that nearly hasn’t been altered until this very day. The

focus of the site is on the Great Garden, an around 50 hectares large

property in a French baroque garden design style. You will also find

the Welfengarten, the Georgengarten as well as the Berggarten, one

of Germany’s oldest botanic gardens. The Herrenhausen Palace was

built in the 17th century and was entirely burned down to ground

during the Second World War. In 2012 it was reconstructed by a

private foundation and presently serves as a conference centre and

museum. Throughout its long history, the neighbouring baroque

garden has repeatedly been a site for big festivals and cultural

events. The International Fireworks Competition, for example, where

the best pyrotechnicians in the world participate, takes place each

year in the Great Garden.

The tour is offered in English and in German.

Seit 2014 ist sie außerdem Teil der UNESCO Cities of Music, einem

Zusammenschluss von internationalen Städten, die über eine bedeu-

tende Musikszene verfügen. Hannover war Heimat des bedeutenden

Philosophen, Mathematikers und Juristen Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz

(1646–1716), dem die Universität Hannover auch ihren Namen

verdankt.

Im Zentrum der Stadt, zwischen der Marktkirche und dem Ufer des

Flusses Leine, liegt die historische Altstadt. Diese bietet imposante

Fachwerkkulissen, urige Kneipen, kleine Cafés und Prachtbauten wie

die Oper und das Neue Rathaus von 1913. Das Neue Rathaus liegt

am Maschpark am Südrand der Innenstadt und ist Sitz der hanno-

verschen Stadtverwaltung und des Oberbürgermeisters. Umgeben

vom Altstadtkern Hannovers liegen die Marktkirche und das Alte

Rathaus, die im 14. und 15. Jahrhundert erbaut wurden. Das äußere

Erscheinungsbild beider Bauten ist geprägt durch die norddeutsche

Backsteingotik, was ihnen die charakteristische rote Farbe verleiht.

Die Führung wird auf Deutsch und auf Englisch angeboten.

City tour „Hannover gut zu Fuß“

Hannover is the capital of the state of Niedersachsen (Lower

Saxony) and therefore is where the parliament is located. The city is

an important industrial and trade fair city with a population of over

500.000. Since 2014, it is part of the UNESCO Cities of Music, an

amalgamation of international cities, that are known for their

significant music scene. Hannover was home to the significant

philosopher, mathematician and lawyer Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz

(1646–1716), which the university owes its name to.

In the centre of the city, between the Market Church and the shore of

the Leine, lies the historical old town. This allows an imposing

backdrop of the half-timbered houses, as for rustic taverns, little

cafés and gorgeous buildings like the opera and the New Town Hall

of 1913. The New Town Hall is located at Maschpark at the southern

rim of the city’s centre and is the residence of Hannover’s

municipality and mayor. Surrounded by the core of Hannover’s old

town lie the Market Church and the Old City Hall, which were built

between the 14th and 15th century. The outer appearance of both is

characterised by North-German Brick Gothic, which gives them their

well-known colour of red.

The tour is offered in English and in German.

Sijia Li

Bereits mit sechs Jahren lernte Sijia Li in China die Guzheng zu

spielen. Die Guzheng (古筝) ist eine chinesische Wölbzither, die mit

Hilfe von Fingerplektren gespielt wird. Bevor sie 2015 nach Deutsch-

land kam, machte sie ihren Master of Arts an der Musikhochschule

Xing’hai und erlangte zahlreiche Preise in nationalen Wettbewerben.

Am Leibniz-Konfuzius-Institut Hannover e.V. gibt sie zudem Unter-

richt in Guzheng. Sijia Li spielt sowohl klassische chinesische Musik

als auch zeitgenössische und weltweite Kompositionen.

Im Moment sind Sie dank eines DAAD-Stipendiums in Deutschland. Eines Tages

werden Sie sich nach einer erfolgreichen Karriere an Ihren spannenden und

lehrreichen Studien- oder Forschungsaufenthalt zurückerinnern. Dann möchten

Sie vielleicht etwas „zurück geben“ und ganz persönlich einem jungen

Studierenden oder Nachwuchswissenschaftler dazu verhelfen, ebenfalls diese

besondere Erfahrung machen zu können. Dabei unterstützt Sie die DAAD-Stiftung.

Die DAAD Stiftung hat das Ziel, mittels privater Spenden den weltweiten akademischen und

künstlerischen Austausch sowie die internationale Hochschulzusammenarbeit zu fördern.

Sie können hierzu beitragen, indem Sie – eventuell auch gemeinsam mit anderen Interessierten –

eine Stipendien-Patenschaft übernehmen und einem Studierenden oder Nachwuchswissenschaftler

Right now you are in Germany – thanks to a DAAD-scholarship. One day, after

having accomplished a successful career, you will look back at this time abroad full

of interesting studies or exciting research. This may be the moment when you feel

like “giving back”. Whatever your motives might be to personally contribute to a

young student or a scientist having the same wonderful experience, the DAAD-

Stiftung would be happy to assist you in making it a reality.

The DAAD-Stiftung is committed to advancing a charitable purpose – namely, supporting worldwide

academic and artistic exchange and promoting international higher education cooperation.

You can either make a donation of a certain amount or provide capital for an endowment, the returns

of which can be used to finance an individual scholarship. This kind of support may also be granted by

a group of people or e.g. a company.

The DAAD-Stiftung is also engaged in other missions and established a special funding project called

the “Emergency Fund”. This fund supports students and young researchers who find themselves

faced with unexpected hardship through no fault of their own. On given occasion this project’s main

focus currently lies in the support of talented young people who had to flee from their home country, in

order to facilitate their access to higher education.
