Strukturbildung in kolloidalen Systemen

• Selbstorganisationsphänomene

Emulsionen

Page 2: Strukturbildung in kolloidalen Systemen Selbstorganisationsphänomene Emulsionen.

Emulsion

• Disperses mehr oder weniger instabiles System von zwei oder mehr miteinander nicht mischbaren Flüssigkeiten

Page 3: Strukturbildung in kolloidalen Systemen Selbstorganisationsphänomene Emulsionen.

Emulsionen(Betrachtung des Tröpfchendurchmessers d)

• Makroemulsionen ( d > 1000 nm)

• Miniemulsionen (50 nm < d < 1000 nm)

• Mikroemulsionen (2 nm < d < 20 nm)

Page 4: Strukturbildung in kolloidalen Systemen Selbstorganisationsphänomene Emulsionen.

Emulsionen(Thermodynamische Betrachtung)

• Makroemulsionen (metastabil bzw. instabil)

• Miniemulsionen (metastabil bzw. instabil)

• Mikroemulsionen (thermodynamisch stabil)

Page 5: Strukturbildung in kolloidalen Systemen Selbstorganisationsphänomene Emulsionen.

Makroemulsionen

• Thermodynamisch nicht stabil !

• Tröpfchengröße > 1 m

Page 6: Strukturbildung in kolloidalen Systemen Selbstorganisationsphänomene Emulsionen.

Wie beeinflußt man

• Emulsionstyp ?

• Tropfengröße ?

• Energieeintrag ?

• Stabilität ?

Page 7: Strukturbildung in kolloidalen Systemen Selbstorganisationsphänomene Emulsionen.

Miniemulsion

• Hohe Tensidkonzentration

• Hoher Energieeintrag

Page 8: Strukturbildung in kolloidalen Systemen Selbstorganisationsphänomene Emulsionen.

Mikroemulsion

• Sehr hohe Tensidkonzentration !

• Kein Energieeintrag nötig !

• Spontane Bildung !

Page 9: Strukturbildung in kolloidalen Systemen Selbstorganisationsphänomene Emulsionen.

Mikroemulsion

• Thermodynamisch stabile, isotrope Lösung zweier nicht mischbarer Flüssigkeiten, normalerweise Öl und Wasser, in Gegenwart einer oder mehrerer oberflächenaktiver Spezies.

Page 10: Strukturbildung in kolloidalen Systemen Selbstorganisationsphänomene Emulsionen.

Mikroemulsion(selbstorganisiertes Öl-Wasser Gemisch)

• Isotropes, optisch klares System

• Thermodynamisch stabiles System

• Tröpfchengröße zwischen 2 – 20 nm

(o/w , w/o , bikontinuierlich)

• Newtonsches Fließverhalten

• Geringe Grenzflächenspannung

• Reversibles Temperaturverhalten

Spontane Bildung einer Mikroemulsion

• Das entscheidende Kriterium für die Bildung einer Mikroemulsion ist, dass die spontane Krümmung des Tensidfilms H0 , der Krümmung der Tröpfchen H entspricht!

H0 = H

Page 12: Strukturbildung in kolloidalen Systemen Selbstorganisationsphänomene Emulsionen.

Ternäres System

• Wasser / Öl / Niotensid

Page 13: Strukturbildung in kolloidalen Systemen Selbstorganisationsphänomene Emulsionen.

Winsor - Phasen

Page 14: Strukturbildung in kolloidalen Systemen Selbstorganisationsphänomene Emulsionen.

Quaternäres System

• Wasser / Öl / Cotensid / Tensid

Cotensid: Langkettiger Alkohol

Page 15: Strukturbildung in kolloidalen Systemen Selbstorganisationsphänomene Emulsionen.
Page 16: Strukturbildung in kolloidalen Systemen Selbstorganisationsphänomene Emulsionen.

Wie kann die spontane Krümmung beeinflußt werden ?

• Durch die Volumenverhältnisse

• Durch die Wahl des Tensidmoleküls

• Durch die Temperatur (nur bei Niotensiden)

• Durch Salzzusatz (nur bei ionischen Tensiden)

• Durch Zugabe eines Cotensids

• Durch Zugabe von Polymeren

Page 20: Strukturbildung in kolloidalen Systemen Selbstorganisationsphänomene Emulsionen.

• Moderate polymer-surfactant interactions lead to the formation of a phase channel

• Formation of a bicontinuos microemulsion

Polyampholyte-modified microemulsions:

• By varying the pH value of the polyampholyte the polymer surfactant interactions can be tuned:

the location of the polyampholyte inside the droplets can be tuned

the droplet-droplet interactions can be changed

Page 23: Strukturbildung in kolloidalen Systemen Selbstorganisationsphänomene Emulsionen.

Polyampholyte-modified microemulsions:

• By varying the hydrophobicity of the polyampholyte and the temperature the polymer surfactant interactions can be tuned:

the L2 phase can be increased (boosting effect)

bicontinuous microemulsions can be formed
