aIstria from a world traveller’s perspective Istrien mit den Augen von Weltenbummlern A stay in Istria leaves an indelible mark on the memory of anyone who has felt the magic of its undulating green hills and sun reflec-tions on the rippling blue sea, against the backdrop of the magnificent Učka Mountain in the background, even for a short period of time. It is precisely these memories that the bloggers and influencers who visit us take home after they have taken part in the ShareIstria programme. All the competitors, bloggers and influencers, with at least 50,000 followers on social networks, and a few with as many as a million fans, come to Istria on a seven-day holiday - to relax and enjoy the amenities offered by the peninsula. In doing so, the selfless partners who host our world travellers help us in the organisation of their stay. And our guests post about the places and events that most impressed them on their social networks. Already in its first year, the ShareIstria project lasted for a full 11 weeks, from mid May until the end of July. However, this year the project was already underway in April and will last for 12 weeks, after which the best publications will be chosen in a number of different categories. You can read on their blogs about how they spent their time, what thrilled them and which colours they see in Istria. We have selected few of them to tell you their own sto-ry about Istria... Ein Aufenthalt in Istrien hinterlässt un-verwischbare Spuren in der Erinnerung von jedem, der zumindest für kurze Zeit die Magie der welligen grünen Hügel und den Widerschein der Sonne auf dem gekräu-selten azurblauen Meer, mit der Silhouette des majestä-tischen Učka Gebirges im Hintergrund gefühlt hat. Genau solche Erinnerungen tragen die Blogger und Beeinflus-ser (influencer) davon, welche durch ihre Teilnahme am Programm ShareIstria zu uns kommen. Alle Wetteiferer, Blogger und Beeinflusser (influencer), mit mindestens 50.000 Anhängern (follower) auf sozialen Netzwerken, und einige davon mit sogar Millionen an Fans, kommen nach Istrien zu einem siebentätigen Urlaub - um zu ent-spannen und die Inhalte zu genießen, welche unsere Halbinsel bietet. Dabei helfen uns, bei der Organisation ihrer Besuche, selbstlos Partner, welche unsere Welten-bummler bewirtet haben. Und unsere Gäste veröffent-lichen auf ihren sozialen Netzwerken Posts über Orte und Ereignisse, welche auf sie am meisten Eindruck ge-macht haben. ShareIstria dauerte bereits im ersten Jahr volle 11 Wochen, von Mitte Mai bis Ende Juli. Dieses Jahr begann es bereits im April und dauert 12 Wochen, und danach werden die besten Veröffentlichungen und zwar in mehreren Kategorien gewählt. Darüber wie sie die Zeit verbracht haben, was sie begeistert hat und in welchen Farben sie Istrien sehen, können Sie in ihren Blogs lesen. And when that hobby takes you to a country that will mark your life, you will probably walk up and down impatiently looking for the right words to share your experiences with the whole world. This is what is hap-pening to me too, I can’t wait to share my story about Istria with you. Yes, about Istria. About a magical discovery. About an un-expected surprise. Where shall I start?! The idyllic land-scape? The hospitality? The delightful flavours of food and wine? The wonderful people who have made me company during the tour? Or the fact that I spent two nights in the lighthouse? So much is on the list of wishes that came true that I really don’t know where to start... Right, I have de-cided to start my story with the lighthouse, the sound of waves and the hidden

breath-taking Istrian land-scapes. Oh yes, the lighthouse. Spending a night in a light-house for me was a really insane experi-ence... Simple, but unique, al-most mystical! I could not even have dreamt that one day I would have

lived to see it, or even better, it’s what I had always dreamt of, but somehow didn’t believe would ever come true, but still, it hap-pened. I came aboard with my companions, enjoying the inde-scribable dusk where the sun set into the sea and arrived at Porer, a lighthouse at the most southerly point of Istria, in Premantura. We were welcomed by two beautiful dogs, a lighthouse keeper, two apartments that were just for us and nothing more except for the sea surrounding us on all sides and the unrealistically pleasant silence. Ich kenne wahrlich kein schöneres und interessante-res Hobby, als jenes welches Reisen beinhaltet. Erst recht, wenn einen dieses Hobby in ein

Land führt, welches dein Leben kennzeichnen wird, ungeduldig schreitest du umher und suchst die richtigen Worte, um deine Erfahrungen mit der ganzen Welt zu teilen. Dies passiert nun auch mir, ich kann es kaum erwarten, euch meine Geschichte über Is-trien zu erzählen. Ja, über Istrien. Eine magische Entdeckung. Über eine unerwartete Überraschung. Womit beginnen?! Mit der idyl-lischen Landschaft? Der Gast-freundlichkeit? Mit den betören-den Geschmäckern der Speisen und des Weins? Mit den wun-dervollen Menschen, welche mir während der Besichtigung Ge-sellschaft geleistet haben? Oder mit der Tatsache, dass ich zwei Nächte in einem Leuchtturm verbracht habe? Es befindet sich so viel auf der Liste der erfüllten Wünsche, dass ich ehrlich gesagt nicht weiß, womit ich beginnen soll... In Ordnung, ich habe mich entschlossen, die Geschichte mit dem Leuchtturm, dem Rauschen der Wellen und den verborgenen Landschaften Istriens welche den Atem rauben zu beginnen. Ach ja, der Leuchtturm. Die Über-nachtung im Leuchtturm war für mich wirklich eine verrückte Er-fahrung ... Einfach, aber einzig-artig, fast mystisch! Ich hätte mir niemals träumen lassen, dass

ich dies erleben wer-de, oder noch besser, ich habe schon immer davon geträumt, aber nie daran geglaubt, dass es wahr werden würde, aber dennoch ist es geschehen. Mit den Mitreisenden ging ich an Bord des Schiff-chens, habe den unbe-schreiblichen Sonnen-untergang genossen, bei welchem die Son-

ne im Meer unterging und kam bei Porer an, dem Leuchtturm gelegen ganz im Süden Istriens, in Premantura. Zwei wunder-schöne Hunde und der Leucht-turmwärter haben uns empfan-gen, zwei Appartements nur für uns und nicht mehr als das Meer, welches uns von allen Seiten umgeben hat, sowie die irreale angenehme Stille. The fusion of the sea and natural beauties on this peninsula does not wane. Northwest of Premantura are the islands of Brijuni, a small archi-pelago of fourteen islands, which were once Tito’s summer resi-

dence, and which were declared a national park in 1983. On the mainland, slightly above the Bri-juni, is Poreč, a town by the sea, whose history dates back more than two thousand years, and in which culture, sea and a relaxed atmosphere are all successfully combined. On the way to Poreč you should not miss visiting Lim, the largest bay on the Adriatic...And the crystal sea in Rabac could tell a few stories about its beau-ty too. This small town on the eastern coast of Istria, with a port and crystal clear sea that is a bit more tourism ori-ented, is well worth a

visit - we spent the whole after-noon enjoying the view, the sun and the si-lence that it of-fers. A few mo-ments later, we found ourselves in Labin, a town situated on the hill above Ra-bac where the beautiful pastel coloured hous-es are inter-woven along the stone streets. Die Fusion des Meeres und der Naturschönheiten auf dieser Halbinsel klingt nicht ab. Nord-westlich von Premantura liegt Brijuni, ein kleiner Archipel von vierzehn Inseln, die Sommerre-sidenz von Tito, welche im Jahr 1983 zum Nationalpark verkün-det wurde. Auf dem Festlandteil der Halbinsel, etwas oberhalb von Brijuni, befindet sich Poreč, ein Städtchen am Meer, dessen Vergangenheit mehr als zwei-tausend Jahre zurück reicht, in welchem sich erfolgreich Kultur, Meer und gelassene Atmosphä-re vereinen. Auf dem Weg nach Poreč dürft ihr nicht den Limski Kanal versäumen, den größten Kanal im Adriameer... Und das

kristallklare Meer in Rabac könn-te so manche Geschichte über seine Schönheit erzählen. Die-ses Städtchen an der Ostküste Istriens, mit kleinem Hafen und kristallklarem Meer, etwas mehr dem Tourismus zugewandt, ist einen Besuch wert - wir haben den ganzen Nachmittag damit verbracht, die Aussicht, die Son-ne und die Ruhe zu genießen, welche dieser Ort auf der Hand-fläche bietet. In nur wenigen Augenblicken fanden wir uns in Labin wieder, einem Städtchen gelegen auf einer Anhöhe ober-halb von Rabac, in welchem sich wunderschöne Häuschen pastel-lener Farben mit steinernen Gäs-schen verflechten. However, not everything in Istria is about the sea. Istria is also known for its

hilly areas and excellent wine and food: Istrian pro-sciutto, truffles, extra vir-gin olive oil, Malvasia and Teran wines. Alongside the pristine nature and surreal feeling of calm and tranquillity, in the heart of central Istria is Motovun, a hilltop town where all of these delicacies can be tasted. After the expe-rience in the lighthouse, I didn’t expect anything less from the hinterland. And

#ShareIstria: SJ Begonja www.chasingthedonkey.com The Worlds Smallest Town: Hum Die kle-inste Stadt der Welt: Hum I’ve been back home from my recent #ShareIstria adventure for just 24 hours and I am so excited to share with you this little discovery. By little I don’t mean figuratively I mean literally small - so small the locals have declared Hum ‘The Worlds Small-est Town.’ Despite reading (and hearing) over and over that Hum is listed as the Guinness Book of Records holder, I can not find proof. Nor can I find any other town in the world so small. The Vatican City is smaller, but it’s also a country, so you decide. Either way. I introduce to you the teeny tiny Town of Hum. Hum (pronounced who-m) is located in central Istria, approximately 2.5 hours drive from Croatia’s capital Zagreb. When I last wrote about this medieval hilltop town, I thought it had 21 inhabitants (2011 census), but it seems that between 2011, and 2016 there has been a baby boom. There are now 27 people who call Hum home - including four little ones.I always shout about how safe Croatia is for kids and how we love that part of our life here. But this little town must be the quietest and safest town to live with children. That is if you dis-count the cobblestone streets. Of which there are just two. Yes, only two streets. Surrounded by nature Hum is beyond charming. We drove up to the town gates, and I could tell instanly that it had a unique appeal. An enor-mous copper door shields the entrance to the town which has

striking handles adorned with Glagolitic Script (more on that later). My guide suggested we close to the doors to get a look at the boškarin (Istrian Ox) horns that protect the entrance. It was a great tip; I suggest you try it.Ich bin nun erst seit 24 Stunden zurück zuhause von meinem neuesten #ShareIstria Abenteuer und ich bin so aufgeregt, mit euch diese kleine Entdeckung zu teilen. Mit klein meine ich nicht figurativ, sondern buchstäblich klein - so klein, dass die Einheimischen Hum zur „Kleinsten Stadt der Welt“ erklärt haben. Obwohl ich darüber gelesen (und davon gehört) habe, dass Hum der Re-kordhalter im Guinness Buch der Rekorde ist, kann ich kei-nen Beweis dafür finden. Aber ich kann auch keine andere Stadt in der Welt finden, welche so klein ist. Der Vatikan ist kleiner, aber er ist ebenso ein Land, somit ent-scheide du. Jeden-falls. Ich stelle euch die klitzekleine Stadt Hum vor. Hum (wird genauso ausgesprochen wie geschrieben) liegt im zentralen Istrien, etwa 2.5 Stunden Fahrt von Kroatiens Hauptstadt Zagreb entfernt. Als ich das letzte Mal über diese mittelalterliche Stadt auf der Bergspitze geschrieben habe, dachte ich, dass sie 21 Einwohner hat (Zählung 2011), aber es scheint so, als ob es zwischen 2011 und 2016 einen Baby Boom gegeben hat. Es sind nun 27 Menschen, welche Hum ihre Heimat nennen - inklusive

Aber diese Stadt muss wohl die ruhigste und sicherste Stadt sein, um mit Kindern hier zu leben. Wenn man die Pflasterstein Straßen ignoriert. Von welchen es nur zwei gibt. Ja, nur zwei Straßen. Umgeben von der Natur ist Hum mehr als bezaubernd. Wir fuhren hinauf bis zum Stadttor und ich konnte sofort sagen, dass es eine einzig-artige Wirkung hatte. Eine enorme

Das war ein großartiger Tipp; ich empfehlen, dass ihr das auch probiert.


breakfast flavoured with truffles was a truly unique experience for me. That’s right, instead of the day traditionally beginning with a regular coffee and milk, this time I was surprised by scrambled eggs with truffles, truffle salami and crostini with truffles. In order to digest this English-type break-fast, I just had to take a walk through the woods and go on a truffle hunt with the Karlić family. I think it is superfluous to write about dinner we had that day. I will just mention two things: the Zigante restaurant. And truffles. I must not forget Ipši and the fam-ily run farm that produces extra virgin olive oil. I would consider myself modest if I called this place wonderful. The entire farm is located on the slopes of a hill from which a breath-taking view extends before you. When you come here you will be aston-ished (a feeling that actually fol-lows you throughout your time on the peninsula). When you find yourself in that environment, all you want to do is to sit on the lawn and get lost in the stillness of the nature surrounding you... What else is there to say, this dream trip enabled me to en-counter undiscovered magical places...

Aber, in Istrien dreht sich nicht alles nur ums Meer. Istrien ist auch be-kannt für seine z a h l r e i c h e n bergigen Teile und den aus-gezeichneten Wein und die Speisen: istri-scher Rohschin-ken, Trüffel, natives Olivenöl

extra, die Weine Malvazija und Teran. Außer der unberührten Natur und dem unrealen Gefühl der Ruhe und Gelassenheit, hat sich im Herzen des zentralen Istriens Motovun niedergelas-sen, wo ihr all diese Delikates-sen verkosten könnt. Nach der Erfahrung im Leuchtturm, habe ich vom Inneren nicht weniger erwartet. Und erst das Frühstück mit dem Geschmack von Trüf-feln war für mich eine wahrlich einzigartige Erfahrung. So kam es, dass ich anstatt den Tag tra-ditionell mit einem Milchkaffee zu beginnen, dieses Mal mit ei-ner „fritaja“ (Rührei) mit Trüffeln, Trüffelsalami und „crostini“ mit Trüffeln überrascht wurde. Damit ich dieses energetische Früh-stück verdauen konnte, durfte ich den Spaziergang durch den Wald und die Trüffelsuche mit der Familie Karlić nicht versäumen. Ich denke, dass es überflüssig wäre, über das Abendessen an diesem Tag zu schreiben. Ich werde nur eines schreiben: Re-staurant Zigante. Und Trüffeln. Ich darf auch Ipša nicht verges-sen ein Familienbetrieb, welcher natives Olivenöl extra herstellt. Ich wäre bescheiden, wenn ich diesen Ort wunderschön nennen würde. Der gesamte Betrieb liegt

auf Gebirgshängen, von welchen aus sich ein atemberaubender Blick bietet. Wenn man hierher kommt, bleibt man fassungslos (ein solches Gefühl überkommt einen eigentlich die ganze Zeit während man die Halbinsel be-sichtigt). Wenn man sich in ei-ner solchen Szenerie vorfindet, wünscht man sich nur, sich in die Wiese zu setzen und sich in der Stille der Natur welche sie umgibt zu verlieren… was soll ich noch sagen, diese Traumreise hat es mir ermöglicht, unentdeckte ma-gische Orte aufzuspüren...VISIT ISTRIA! After witnessing its amazing beauty, this is the only piece of advice I can give you. It is a place where you will find the right mix of all the elements (in my opinion) necessary for a per-fect holiday: beautiful scenery, historic landmarks, a relaxed at-mosphere, friendly people, good food and excellent wine. What else do you need? ;-) BESUCHT ISTRIEN! Nachdem ich mich von ihren Schönheiten überzeugt habe, ist dies der ein-zige Rat, welchen ich euch geben kann. Dort werdet ihr das richtige Verhältnis aller Elemente finden (meiner Meinung nach), welche für einen perfekten Urlaub nötig sind: wunderschöne Landschaft, historische Sehenswürdigkeiten, gelassene Atmosphäre, freund-liche Menschen, gute Speisen und ausgezeichneten Wein. Was braucht man mehr? ;-)

Brijuni-Brioni Embark on a boat in Fažana and within minutes you will find yourself in the Bri-juni National Park. It is a natural oasis where you should breathe in deeply, cycle among the rich vegetation and swim in the crys-tal clear sea. Here we tried the Underwater Trail, snorkelling while admiring the undersea world and the historical remains, whilst our audio guide explained every detail to us. Dies ist eine natürliche Oase in welcher man mit vollen Lungen atmen, im Reichtum des Grüns Radfahren und im kristallklaren Meer baden muss. Hier haben wir den Underwater Trail (Unterwasserpfad) getestet, Tauchen mit Schnorchel bei wel-cher wir die Meereswelt und die historischen Überreste bewun-dert haben, während uns der Audio-Führer alle Einzelheiten erklärt hat. Novigrad-Cittanova Another in a series of towns caressed by the sea, where the small boats play their special role. Carefully decorated bars are located close to the harbour, which is also very important for the local popula-tion. The Gnam Gnam festival should not to be missed either. Noch ein Städtchen in der Reihe, welches das Meer liebkost und in welchem die Schiffchen ihre Rol-le spielen. Penibel eingerichtete Bars befinden sich gleich neben dem Hafen, welcher für die lokale Einwohnerschaft von großer Be-deutung ist. Das Festival Gnam Gnam wird nicht versäumt.

I downloaded Croatia from my camera today. My week in Croatia hap-pened suddenly, thanks to an unexpected call from the Istria Tourist Board, a region that borders Italy. From one perspective, it really re-sembles Italy, and then from the other, it is completely different. Today I will take you on the journey I followed. A journey I would recommend to all those living nearby, and those, like me, who live in the far south of Italy. Heute habe ich Kroatien aus dem Film gezogen. Meine Wo-che in Kroatien geschah unverhofft, dank der unerwarteten Einladung seitens des Tourismusverbands Istrien, einer Region welche an Italien grenzt. Auf der einen Seite ist sie Italien sehr ähnlich, auf der ande-ren ausgesprochen verschieden. Heute nehme ich euch mit auf eine Reise, welche ich selber gemacht habe. Eine Reise, welche ich jenen empfehlen würde, welche in der Nähe leben, aber auch jenen wie ich, welche im südlichsten Teil Italiens leben. According to legend, Casanova once lived here, so a celebration is organised in his honour in which cou-ples compete for the longest kiss, remaining locked to each other for hours. Unfortunately, I don’t think I am up to such a challenge! : D Ein buntes Städtchen umgeben vom Meer, wo die Schiffchen wie eine Dekoration baumeln. Hier lebte, laut Legende, Casanova und ihm zu Ehren wird heutzutage ein Fest abgehalten, in welchem die Paa-re im längsten Kuss wetteifern und stundenlang aneinander geklebt bleiben. Ich glaube ich bin einer solchen Herausforderung nicht gewachsen! :DFažana-Fasana A town known for its colourful little houses, grandmas resting on bench-es, rural entertaining melodies. A place locked in the past that is miles away from consumer-ism and the more technological world. It was here that I met Nico-letta and her husband (originally

Pula-Pola This town is considered to be the capital of Istria, the most important town both in historic and economic terms. It can be a great starting point for exploring the surrounding area. I was enchanted by the little bars, the historical arch and the tiny streets where a number of shops appeared one after the other. The Arena is beautiful as is the Forum, the central square where I was particularly taken by the Cva-jner, a cafe furnished within a decadent atmosphere that was once an Italian bank at the beginning of the 20th century. Wird als Hauptstadt Istriens betrachtet, als die wichtigste Stadt in historischem und öko-nomischem Sinn. Es kann ein ausgezeichneter Ausgangspunkt für die Entdeckung des umliegenden Gebiets sein. Die kleinen Bars, der histo-rische Triumphbogen, die Miniatur Gässchen in welchen verschiedene Geschäfte aneinandergereiht sind, haben mich begeistert. If you visit them, you will meet friendly people, who are both beautiful on the outside and warm on the inside. Fažana greeted us with a spectacular sunset, with warm and enchant-ing colours. We were also thrilled by the delicacies made of ancho-vies served in a variety of sauc-es. Sometimes with an exquisite, and often quite a strong taste. Ein Städtchen erkennbar an-hand der bunten Häuschen, den Großmütterchen welche auf den Bänken rasten, den ländlichen Unterhaltungsmelodien. Der Ort, gefangen in der Vergangenheit, ist meilenweit von der konsume-rismischen und technischen Welt entfernt. Hier habe ich Nicoletta und ihren Ehemann (gebürtig aus Apulien wie ich - wie kleine die-se Welt nur ist!) kennengelernt, wundervolle Menschen, welche uns in ihrem Olivengarten be-wirtet haben. Sie haben uns mit der Unterkunft in der kleinen entspannenden Oase, umgeben von Olivenhainen, erstarren las-sen und uns ihr preisgekröntes natives Olivenöl extra angebo-ten. Falls ihr sie besuchen solltet, werdet ihr freundliche Menschen kennenlernen, schön von außen und warm im Inneren. Fažana hat uns mit einem spektakulä-ren Sonnenuntergang, mit war-men und bezaubernden Farben, begrüßt. Es hat uns auch mit Anchovis Delikatessen, serviert zu verschiedenen Saucen, be-geistert. Manchmal von ausge-zeichnetem und manchmal von starkem Geschmack.

Grožnjan-Grisignana A city of artists. I personally thought it had got this name by chance, without too much thought. But it reassured me. The streets in Grožnjan breathe art. The town is full of inspiration, craft workshops, rooms where the wood has been processed manually, with windows on which a number of handmade products hang. The charming spirit of this village has attracted many celebrities, including Anthony Hopkins and Schumacher who each purchased houses in these areas. This town only has 200, 300 inhabitants. I’d love to go back to Grožnjan in the autumn, where, in September, all the artists create the works of art on the streets during a competition. That really must be an amazing feeling, like walking into an impressionist paint-ing! Stadt der Künstler. Ich dachte, dass der Stadt diese Bezeichnung zufällig zugefallen ist, ohne viele Überlegungen. Aber sie hat mich belehrt. Die Gässchen in Grožnjan strömen Kunst aus. Diese Stadt hat nur etwa 200, 300 Einwohner. Gerne möchte ich im Herbst nach Grožnjan zu-rückkehren, wenn im September während des Wettbewerbs alle Künstler auf den Straßen schaffen. Dies muss ein unglaubliches Gefühl sein, wie ein Spaziergang in einem impressionistischen Bild! The week spent in Croatia was an experience that awakened all of my senses, tickling my palate and enlightening my viewpoint and at the same time awakening that amazing curiosity of scent. Thank you Istria and the people of Istria who welcomed us so warmly and simply and who really reminded me of my people from the south. Except from the beautiful landscape and entertainment options there is great food which doesn’t fail to live up to expectations. Istria it-self is a mix of diverse cultures, and so is Istrian cuisine. Differ-ent culinary traditions intertwine on a local menu, giving the food natural and delicious taste. Is-trian prosciutto, asparagus and the prime quality truffles are just some of the local delicacies. It is the most dreamlike peninsula I have ever seen. After travelling all over the world, visiting World Heritage Sites, I fell that Istria is one of the most confusing yet special places I have been to, and is definitely worth a visit. The har-mony and beauty of people and the environment is unparalleled and after you immerse yourself in its beauty, you will be reluctant to leave. Ein magischer Ort In Istrien kann man verschiedene historische Spuren entdecken, welche verschiedene Kulturen hinterlassen haben. Prähistorische Landschaften, Landschaften welche in die Epoche der Römer datieren, wie etwa das Amphitheater und der Augustus-Tem-pel warten alle darauf in der Stille dieser lieblichen Halbinsel entdeckt zu werden.Eine freudige Halbinsel Ich möchte persönlich zwei Orte empfehlen, von welchen ich finde, dass sie am besten für den Genuss der Küsten-atmosphäre sind, Rovinj und Poreč, welche ein Augenschmaus sind. Istrien ist ebenso voll an alten Orten auf Bergspitzen, wie etwa Moto-vun und Grožnjan, welche eindrucksvolle Ausblicke auf das Grün der idyllischen Landschaft bieten. Das ungewöhnliche Gelände Istriens, kreuz und quer von vielen verschiedenen Straßenarten durchzogen, hat eine Fülle an erstaunlichen geometrischen unregelmäßigen For-men geschaffen. Neben der wunderschönen Landschaft und den Un-terhaltungsoptionen gibt es tolle Speisen, welche es nicht versäumen, die Erwartungen zu erfüllen. Istrien selber ist ein Mix an verschiedenen Kulturen und so ist auch die Küche in Istrien. Verschiedene kulinarische Traditionen verflechten sich im örtlichen Menü und verleihen damit den Speisen natürliche und köstliche Geschmäcker. Istrischer Rohschinken, Spargel und der erstklassige Trüffel sind nur einige der lokalen Delikat-essen. Es ist die traumhafteste Halbinsel, welche ich je gesehen habe. Nachdem ich durch die ganze Welt gereist bin, Weltkultur Landschaften besucht habe, fühle ich, dass Istrien einer der meist verwirrenden aber dennoch besonderen Plätze ist, an welchem ich je war, und es ist defi-nit einen Besuch wert. Die Harmonie und die Schönheit der Menschen, sowie das Umfeld sind unvergleichlich und nachdem man in dessen Schönheit eintaucht, wird man es nur widerwillig verlassen.

In recent years, Istria has become much appreciated for its gastro tourism. It is true that Istrian cuisine is connected to seafood and I can confirm that a number of tourists come here specifi-cally to taste this. I cannot fail to point out the excellent quality/price ratio in Istrian restaurants. You pay less than in Italy for better quality especially when it comes to fish. Not only that, there is a wide variety of dishes and pro-ducts, including Istrian prosciutto that really should be tasted! It is produced by drying it during the days when the northeastern Bora wind is strong enou-gh to cure the meat. Taking advantage of the sea breeze to obtain a delicious cut of meat - is really wonderful! The good service and delights of Istrian cuisine always find their admirers. A number of restaurants in Istria are so modern that they could aspire to the Michelin guide.In the land of Malvasia - Istria. The main grape variety in Istria is Mal-vasia. I have tasted many wines and, believe me, all the producers wanted to surprise me with their “best wine in the world”. As in Italy, Istrian pro-ducers put all their efforts into dedica-ting every second to their cellars and offering truly delicious products. Istria full of emotion.Looking for something specific during my holiday in Istria, I tried to diversify my free time and share new experi-ences with my friends. So after a few days of sun at the Porer Lighthouse, I began to travel across Istria to beco-me better acquainted with it. The strongest emotion was maybe the flight over the town of Rovinj. Half an hour in the air flying over the beautiful beaches there, over the old town with its tower identical to that of Ve-nice and the sea: blue and m a j e -s t i c , c a l m and bo-und le-ss. You r e a l l y need to be able to fly to experien-ce these e m o t i o n s . Coming in se-cond place in my personal ranking was hunting the Istri-an truffle. Truffles are an integral part of Istria. They are used in the local cui-sine for a number of dishes: pasta, in main courses and even in desserts. They are also used to create special, new tastes of honey. Eine halbe Stunde über den schönen Stränden von Rovinj, der Altstadt, dem Glockenturm ähnlich dem in Venedig, sowie dem blauen Meer, majestätisch ruhig und grenzenlos. Nur aus der Luft kann man solch ein Gefühl erleben. Den zweiten Platz auf meiner persönlichen Top Liste belegt die Trüffeljagdt. Der Trüffel ist ein fester Bestandteil der Halbinsel Istrien. Er wird in der Küche zur Zubereitung von vielen Gerichten verwendet: Nudelgerichte, Hauptgerichte sowie Desserts. Er dient auch als Gewürz, um raffinierte, neue Honigaromen zu kreieren. Falls Sie also ein Liebhaber dieser Delikatesse sind, dann bietet die Suche nach Trüffeln ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis.

The products Throughout its history Istria was famous for its exports: wine, olive oil, honey, salt, cheese, fresh and salted fish... Even though there were earlier attempts to open production fa-cilities for the manufacture of zwieback, pasta and the like, the development of the Istrian food industry began in the middle of the 19th century. It was then that the Candussi and Calò factory opened in Rovinj, where pasta and biscuits were produced. The canned fish factory opened there in the 1880’s. There are several large and many small producers of food in Istria nowadays.Produkte Istrien war bereits in der Geschichte für den Export von Wein, Öl, Honig, Salz, Käse, frischen und gesalzenen Fisch bekannt... Beautiful Istria in 5 I went on a recent different kind of trip to Croatia. Europe is a pretty amazing place with a whole new set of wonderful new lessons and cultural differences. I was invited to Croatia by @shareistria along with Turkish Airlines and BMW. In this blog I will give you 5 reasons why Croatia should be on your travel list. 1. You have never Tasted Olive Oil before Croatian Olive oil. We spent an afternoon tasting the best of Istria’s Olive oils. It sort of reminded me of wine tasting. Many things affect the taste of the oil, harvesting time, processing techniques and certain herb-al additives. To the smell the oils had a strong grassy smell, like fresh cut grass. Okay so I went a little crazy with the oil. I drenched everything in my personal bottle I was given. Seriously makes everything taste so much better. This was the start of a food love affair this week. Okay so after drenching the oil in all my food this week, I also put it in my Baths and rubbed it all over my skin. I got a little out of control with the olive oil… but my skin is really soft.2. And then there is Wine… Okay I’m not a crazy wine lover but I do believe a good wine can enhance the olive oil experience I was on. (no my jeans did not fit after this week) Croatia has such amaz-ing wine, it often gets overlooked because Italy has such a hold on the label of being a Wine country. We drank a lot of wine all week. If you love wine this is a big reason to get over here. You could spend days getting lost in vineyards. Charming little villages surrounded by little quaint vineyard.3. It’s so Romantic here. Okay so if you have a special someone this place has the ability to make you fall in love all over again. Even if you don’t have someone, this country will make you fall in love with it. The culture, wine, food and people are captivating and an experience like none other. I always thought of Croatia as a mix of Italy and Greece and it is exactly that. The heat and oil of Greece mixed with the romantic touch of Italy. what a beautiful combination.4. The Food is amazing and Affordable. Croatia has an amaz-ing assortment of the finest foods and the best part of all the food is it is very organic. Most comes from very small farms and it’s not uncommon for restaurants to have a backyard garden. I am a veg-etarian and had no problem finding the most amazing alternatives to the seafood and meat. You can taste the love put into the food, sadly that love doesn’t help make my jeans fit!5. People are so nice. I always get a little skeptical about coming to another country with my first question being, is it safe? I have never felt safer in a place. Every person I met treated me with so much kindness, in fact I made great friends with my cab driver yesterday! Most peo-ple know English as well which makes it a bit easier. Croatia has so many more worthwhile things worth exploring. I recommend you put it on your bucket list. It isn’t nearly as busy as Italy but just as charming. Schönes Istrien in 5 Kürzlich habe ich mich auf eine etwas andere Reise nach Kroatien begeben. Europa ist ein wahrlich unglaublicher Ort mit einer ganzen Reihe an neuen Erkenntnissen und kulturellen Unterschieden. In diesem Blog möchte ich fünf Gründe nennen, weshalb Kroatien auf Ihrer Reiseliste stehen sollte.1) Sie haben kein Olivenöl gekostet, bis Sie nicht das kroati-sche probiert haben. Wir haben einen ganzen Nachmittag damit verbracht, die besten istrischen Olivenöle zu kosten. Viele Merkma-le beeinflussen den Geschmack des Olivenöls: das Wetter bei der Olivenernte, die Verarbeitungstechniken und bestimmte pflanzli-che Ergänzungsmittel. Und die Düfte erinnern an frisch geschnitte-nes Gras. Na gut, nun habe ich mich ein wenig mitreißen lassen... Aber das war nur der Anfang des Gastro-Liebesabenteuers. Und ja, nachdem ich während der ganzen Woche alle Nahrungsmittel mit Olivenöl beträufelt habe, habe ich es auch als Badezusatz genutzt und in die Haut gerieben. Ein wenig habe ich zwar damit übertrie-ben, aber meine Haut ist nun wirklich samtweich.2) Und dann kam der Wein an die Reihe... Kroatien hat hervor-ragende Weine, diese Tatsache wird jedoch oft etwas vernachläs-sigt, da Italien als Land des Weines gilt. Falls Sie ein Weinliebhaber sind, dann ist dies einer der Hauptgründe um hierher zu kommen. Hier können Sie Tage damit verbringen und durch bezaubernde Weinberge und Dörfer wandern.3) Hier ist alles so romantisch. Wenn Sie eine besondere Per-son in Ihrem Leben haben, dann werden Sie sich an diesem Ort sicherlich erneut ineinander verlieben. Sollten Sie alleine sein, dann werden Sie sich in das Land verlieben. Kultur, Wein, Essen und Menschen faszinieren und die Erfahrung ist einzigartig. Kroatien habe ich mir immer als eine Mischung aus Italien und Griechenland vorgestellt und so ist Kroatien in Wirklichkeit auch. Griechenlands Hitze und Olivenöl verschmelzen mit einem romantischen Hauch von Italien. Eine wunderbare Kombination.4) Das Essen ist ausgezeichnet und die Preise erschwing-lich. Außer der unglaublichen Auswahl an ausgezeichneten Ge-richten finde ich es besonders toll, dass das gesamte Gourmetan-gebot auf Bio-Zutaten basiert. Die meisten Lebensmittel stammen aus kleinen Familienbetrieben und viele Restaurants besitzen ihren eigenen Gemüsegarten. Ich bin Vegetarierin und hatte über-haupt keine Probleme bei der Suche nach ausgezeichneten Alter-nativen zu Fisch und Fleisch. Man schmeckt die Liebe, mit denen die Speisen zubereitet werden, doch leider hilft mir die Liebe nicht um wieder in meine Jeans zu passen!5) Die Menschen sind sehr freundlich. Ich bin immer ein wenig skeptisch bezüglich der Reise in ein fremdes Land und ich frage mich immer zuerst, ob es wirklich sicher ist? Ich habe mich bisher nirgends so sicher gefühlt. Alle Menschen, die ich getroffen habe, waren sehr freundlich. Ja und gestern habe ich mich tatsächlich mit dem Taxifahrer angefreundet! Die meisten Menschen sprechen Eng-lisch, was die Sache einfacher macht. Kroatien bietet so Vieles das man erkunden kann. Daher empfehle ich es auf Ihre Wunschliste aufzunehmen. Kroatien ist nicht annähernd so stark besucht wie Ita-lien, aber es ist ebenso charmant. Kroatien ist ihre ruhigere Version.

Istra Outdoor: ParenzanaThe Route of Health and Friendship Gesundheits - und Freundschaftsweg Parenzana used to be the railroad which connected Poreč and Trieste from 1902 until 1935. It was a funda-mental economic link which connected Istria with the world, and facilitated the development of the poorest parts of Istria of that time by transporting agricultural products of north-west Istria such as wine, fruit, vegetables and grain. Although it operated only a little more than three decades, the small railway left an indelible mark on the entire area. Along the Parenzana route lay some of the most unique and precious towns in Istria, including the ‘town of artists’ Grožnjan, dreamy Završje, the most beautiful medieval town in Istria Motovun, and a very important historic town Vižinada. The route abounds in scenic views, stone viaducts some as high as 50m, and preserved tunnels with eco friendly lighting. Lush vegetation and the variety of flora and fauna you will encounter along the route are fascinating and the passages cut in rock and the precipice below some of its parts impressive. Parenzana ist die einstige Bahnstrecke, die Poreč und Triest miteinander verband, und von 1902 bis 1935 in Funktion war. Entlang des Radweges Parenzana gibt es zahlreiche einzigartige Örter und Städtchen, wie z.B. die „Stadt der Künstler“ Grožnjan, Završje, das schönste mittelalterliche Städtchen in Istrien - Motovun, sowie auch Vižinade, noch eine wichtige mittelistrische Stadt. Die Strecke ist voll von Ausblickpunkten, Steinvi-adukten (von denen einige über 50 m hoch sind) und erhal-tener Tunnels mit ökologischer Beleuchtung. Dichter Bewuchs und die Vielfalt der Flora und Fauna der Bahn entlang werden Sie einfach bezaubern, und die in die Felsen und Schlünde eingeschnittenen Durchgänge unter der Trasse werden niemanden gleichgültig lassen.

20,000 leagues under the sea - the Istrian way 20 000 Meilen unter dem Meer auf istrische Weise The beauties of the Istrian coast are known far and wide, and it is now possible to learn more about Istria’s underwater world in a simple, fun and unusual way too. The Verudela Underwater Park is a unique experience that does not require special preconditions, just the desire for new experiences. Located on the peninsula of the same name close to Pula, it extends over almost 200 square metres under water, whilst its depth reaches up to 4 metres. Access to the park is from the coast and the only thing you will need to descend into the depths of the Istrian underwater is a helmet. It is especially designed for this adventure, weighing 40 kilograms in order to keep visitors on the bottom of the sea, and is placed just before the descent. A rubber tube connects it to a bank of oxygen, which allows normal breathing and movement. A maximum of 5 visitors can stay underwater at the same time who, together with a diving leader, pass along the entire submarine promenade. A number of activities can be experienced at the Verudela Underwater Park such as sitting on a bench, cuddling sea urchins, feeding a school of fish, holding shrimps and look-ing at the remains of a wreck. If you wish to test your coordination skills in the sea, you can even try to ride a bike! In order to record all of these special and interesting moments for posterity, the diver can photograph and/or film the entire tour. All necessary information and instructions for the tour as well as the strict rules of conduct required when being lowered into the sea, can be found at the house situated close to the point of entry to the park. The underwater adventure on Verudela will be long remembered, especially because of the indescriba-ble feeling the experience of staying under water offers. Die Schönheiten der istrischen Küste sind weithinaus bekannt, und nun ist es möglich, auf einfache und unterhaltsame Weise, auch die istrische Unter-wasserwelt auf ungewöhnliche Weise näher kennenzulernen. Der Unterwasserpark Verudela ist eine einzigartige Erfahrung für welche fast keine Voraus-setzungen, sondern nur der

Durch einen Gummischlauch ist dieser an die Sauerstoffbank angeschlossen, was ein normales Atmen, aber auch Fortbewegen ermöglicht. Gleichzeitig kön-nen maximal 5 Besucher unter Wasser verweilen, welche mit dem Tauchleiter den gesamten Unter-wasserspaziergang absolvieren. Und innerhalb des Unterwasserparks Verudela sind auch zahlreiche andere Aktivitäten möglich, und daher können Sie auch auf einer Bank sitzen, die Meeresigeln strei-cheln, die Fischschwärme füttern, Krebse halten und Überreste von Schiffswracks besichtigen. Falls Sie Ihre Koordination im Meer prüfen möchten, können Sie auch eine Fahrradfahrt versuchen! Damit alle besonderen und interessanten Momente verewigt bleiben, fotografiert und/oder filmt der Taucher die gesamte Besichtigung. Alle notwendigen Informati-onen und Anweisungen für die Besichtigung, sowie auch die strengen Verhaltensregeln beim Abstieg ins Meer, können alle Interessenten im Häuschen, unweit vom Eingangsort in den Park, ansuchen. Das Unterwasserabenteuer auf Verudela werden Sie lange in Erinnerung behalten, zuallererst wegen dem unbeschreiblichen Gefühl, welches der Aufenthalt unter der Wasseroberfläche bietet.

einzukaufen. Ihre Ehefrauen leisten ihnen oft Gesellschaft und nehmen manchmal ihre Kinder mit. Als ich den Fuß auf die Insel setze, werde ich vom Leuchtturmwärter begrüßt und empfangen. Er führt mich durch den Leuchtturm ins Appartement im Nebengebäude. Das Appartement verfügt über eine Küchenzeile, ein paar einfache Betten und ein kleines Badezim-mer. Nicht luxuriös, aber so was von beeindruckend!Sterne Kurz vor dem Abend kletterte der Leuchtturmwärter an die Turmspitze um die Lichter anzumachen. Seine Schicht hatte begonnen. Da ich recht erschöpft war, schlüpfte ich nach einem einfachen Abendessen ins Bett. Die Fenster ließ ich weit offen, damit die Meeresluft im Raum zirkulieren konnte. Wir alle wissen, dass der Schlaf mit dem Rauschen des Meeres im Hintergrund, er-holsam ist. Mitten in der Nacht wachte ich auf. Außer dem Klang der Wellen herrschte nur Stille. Ich setzte mich ans Fenster und schaute mir die vielen Sterne am Himmel an. Immer wieder schickte der Leuchtturm sein Licht aufs Meer. Porer Island As a travel reporter I often stay in the most interesting places. A wooden hut in the forest. A hotel on an island that is only accessible by Viking boat. A resort so big I got lost in it. A B&B in a 17th century house. I have seen it all. Nothing could surprise me. Or so I thought. Before going to Istria, in Croatia, I knew I would be staying in a lighthouse. I had done my research, but I still didn’t how this lighthouse, standing on the little rocky Porer Island, would look like, or how I would get there. Mother Nature Is The BossIt soon became clear that a night in a lighthouse was dependent on the weather. When there are strong winds, poor visibility or high waves, no boat can get close enough to moor. And I had bad luck. Those cool breezes which make the heat bearable on the mainland, made it impossible to enter Porer Island. A pity. It took three days for the sea to be calm enough. But then I got the green light and was driven to a pier and stepped, baggage and everything, onto a boat. Off to Porer Island.Sunset As the boat sailed to Porer Island, I watched the sun-set. All around us people were swimming in the warm water and little boats floated by. Goran, my guide, played his accordion.

There is little that relaxes you more than floating on the sea. There was no hurry. And so the boat went once around the island before it docked. I could admire the lighthouse on the tiny, rocky island from every angle. And then I was put ashore.Lighthouse Keeper The light-house on Porer Island is still in use. Every fortnight two lighthouse keepers take it in turns to tend to the lighthouse. The lighthouse keepers have a small apartment and can travel by boat to the mainland for groceries. Their wives often keep them company and sometimes they even bring their children along. When I stepped ashore, the lighthouse keeper came out to greet me. He led me through the lighthouse into an apartment in an outbuilding. There was a small kitchen, a few simple beds and a tiny bathroom. Not exactly a luxury stay, but such character!Scaffolding By the evening, the lighthouse keeper climbed to the

top of his tower to light the lamps. His wait began. I, on the other hand, was exhausted and after a simple meal, I crawled into my bed. I left the windows wide open so the sea air could rush through my room. Everyone knows you sleep better with the sound of the sea in the background.Stars In the middle of the night I woke up. It was silent apart from the sound of the waves. I sat by the window and watched countless stars. Every now and then the light of the lighthouse lit up the sea. A perfect night...

Inselchen Porer Als Reiseschriftstellerin war ich des Öfteren an den interessantesten Orten untergebracht. In einem Holzhaus mitten im Wald, im Hotel auf einer Insel, die nur mit einem Wikingerboot zu erreichen war, in einer so riesigen Ferien-anlage, bei dessen Größe man sich leicht verlaufen konnte, in einem B&B Haus aus dem 17. Jahrhundert... Nichts konnte mich eigentlich mehr überraschen. Das dachte ich zumindest. Vor meiner Abreise nach Istrien, wusste ich, dass ich die Nacht im Leuchtturm verbringen würde und habe einige Nachforschungen betrieben. Ich wusste jedoch immer noch nicht, wie dieser Leuchtturm auf dem Felsinselchen Porer aussehen bzw. wie ich dorthin kommen würde.Mutter Natur, die wahre Herr-scherin Bald wurde mir klar, dass die Übernachtung im Leuchtturm vom Wetter abhängt. Bei starkem Wind, schlechter Sicht oder gro-ßen Wellen ist es schlichtweg unmöglich mit dem Boot nahe

genug an die Insel heranzufahren oder anzulegen. Das Meer hat drei Tage gebraucht um sich zu beruhigen. Dann bekam ich grünes Licht, wurde zum Hafen gebracht und wir fuhren mit einem Boot zur kleinen Insel Porer.Sonnenuntergang Während das Boot auf die kleine Insel Porer zusteuerte, beobachtete ich den Sonnenuntergang. Um uns herum badeten Menschen im warmen Meer und kleine Boote trieben umher. Mein Fremdenführer Go-ran spielte Akkordeon. Es gibt nur wenige Dinge in der Welt, die so entspannend sind, wie das Gleiten über dem Meer. Wir waren nicht in Eile und fuhren rund um die Insel herum, bevor wir anlegten. Ich konnte so, aus jedem Winkel, den Blick auf den Leuchtturm genießen, der sich auf der kleinen Felseninsel befindet. Anschließend ging ich von Board.Leuchtturmwärter Der Leucht-turm auf der Insel Porer ist immer noch in Betrieb. Alle 14 Tage, wechseln sich die beiden Leucht-turmwärter ab, um den Leucht-turm zu betreiben. Es steht ihnen eine kleine Wohnung und ein Boot zur Verfügung, mit dem sie aufs Festland fahren um Lebensmittel

Farbenfrohe Semi-U-Boote Um die reiche istrische Unterwasser-welt zu entdecken, muss man nicht unbedingt 20.000 Meter unter Wasser tauchen, es genügt eine Fahrt im Semi-U-Boot (Semisubmarine) und das Aben-teuer kann beginnen! Rovinj, Fažana, Medulin und Rabac, all dies sind istri-sche Reiseziele, wo Sie sich auf eines der roten oder gelben Semi-U-Boote begeben und die Geheimnisse der Unterwasserwelt erkunden können. Eine Fahrt mit einem Semi-U-Boot ist sicher und bequem. Das Schiff, das wie ein typisches kleines U-Boot aussieht besteht aus zwei Teilen, einem über und einem unter Wasser. Die Unterwasser-kabine befindet sich 1,5 m unter der Meeresoberfläche und besitzt große Fenster aus dickem Panzerglas, die die Sicht vergrößern, damit man die Flora und Fauna der istrischen Unterwasser besser bestaunen kann. Istra Diving: Scuba Diving CoursesAdvanced Open Water Diver Taucherkurs für FortgeschritteneThe true adventure starts when you sail into the open seas, dive into the depths of the Adriatic and start researching this incredible Istrian region abundant in natural beauties and sunken ships which make each dive an adventure. If you already know the basics and if you have finished the diver beginner course and wish to deepen your knowledge, there are advanced open water diver courses awaiting. They offer new and useful specializing skills in-cluding deep sea diving, under-water navigation, underwater photography, multi-level diving, night diving and computer as-sisted diving. This two to three day course include both theory and practice. The theoretical part includes lectures, waching movies as well as discussions, while the practical part consists of five open sea dives. The age limit for course goers is set between 10 and 15, depending on individual diver centre.Deep sea diving and underwater nav-igation are a mandatory part of this course, while all other diving specialties are selected according to own wishes.
