Zermatt befindet sich im wildromantischen Visper - tal auf einer Höhe von 1’616 Meter über Meer.  Das Dorf am Fuss des Matterhorns liegt auf dem gleichen Breitengrad wie Lugano und ist somit  der südlichste hochalpine Ferienort der schweiz – umgeben von 38 Viertausendern. In Zermatt fahren keine Motorfahrzeuge. Pferde-schlitten, Kutschen und Elektromobile sind hier  die einzigen Verkehrsmittel auf der strasse.  Die ein malige Lage macht das autofreie Bergdorf  zu einem einzigartigen Ferienort – und erfordert  für die Anreise ein wenig mehr Organisation als  an anderen Orten.

Zermatt can be found right in the middle of  nowhere in the wildly romantic Vispertal at a height of 1,616 metres above sea level. The village at the foot of the Matterhorn lies on the same degree  of latitude as Lugano and is con sequently the most southerly high-alpine holiday resort in switzerland – surrounded by 38 four  thousand metre peaks. In Zermatt there are no motor vehicles and the  only traffic on the streets are horse-drawn sleighs, carriages and electric cars. The fantastic location makes this car-free moun tain village a unique  holiday resort – and calls for the journey to involve  a little more organisation than other places.
