junge Menschen für den Golfsport zu begeistern, ist mir seit jeher ein be-sonderes Anliegen. Daher sehe ich der fünften Austragung der GermanBoys and Girls Open mit großer Freude entgegen. Unsere Idee, ein interna-tionales Jugendturnier im Golf Club St. Leon-Rot zu installieren, ist in ganzEuropa auf große Resonanz gestoßen. Von Jahr zu Jahr hat sich das Spieler-feld weiter entwickelt – qualitativ, was die Leistungsdichte anbelangt, aberauch quantitativ, denn das Interesse der Jugendlichen in St. Leon-Rot teil-

nehmen zu können, wächst beständig.

Im vergangenen Jahr durften wir über 300 Jugendliche bei den Vorturnieren in den Golfclubs Hof-gut Scheibenhardt (Karlsruhe), Am Alten Fliess (Köln) und Eichenried (München) begrüßen. Die156 Spieler, die dann im Hauptturnier an den Start gingen, kamen aus 14 Nationen. Parallel dazuhat sich auch das Setup des Turniers – die Organisation, das Sponsoring und der Außenauftritt –enorm professionalisiert. Dies ist eine fantastische Entwicklung, die uns unserem erklärten Zielnäher bringt: die German Boys and Girls Open in Partnerschaft mit dem DGV und der EGA alseines der bedeutendsten Jugendturniere Europas dauerhaft zu etablieren.

Auch 2008 haben wir weiter an diesem Ziel gearbeitet. Es wird erstmals ein internationales Vor-turnier in Italien geben und die Anzahl an Topspielern wird sich weiter erhöhen. Im kommendenJahr sollen zwei weitere internationale Qualifikationen folgen. Und damit auch die Zuschauer aufihre Kosten kommen, haben wir ein umfangreiches Rahmenprogramm mit vielen Attraktionenauf die Beine gestellt. Ein derartiger Erfolg hat naturgemäß viele Väter. Mein herzlicher Dank giltdem Deutschen Golf Verband für die partnerschaftliche Zusammenarbeit, allen Sponsoren undden Mitgliedern des Golf Club St. Leon-Rot für ihre tatkräftige Unterstützung.

Getting young people excited about golf has always been a passion of mine. So I am lookingforward to the fifth German Boys and Girls Open with great anticipation. Our idea of holding aninternational youth tournament at the St. Leon-Rot Golf Club has been extremely well receivedthroughout Europe. Application numbers have been growing consistently every year as moreand more young players try for a place at St. Leon-Rot, and the quality of the participants’ gamesis also improving year on year.

Last year more than 300 young people took part in the preliminary rounds in the Hofgut Schei-benhardt Golf Club in Karlsruhe, the Am Alten Fliess Golf Club in Cologne and the EichenriedGolf Club in Munich. The 156 players who made it through to the main tournament came from14 different nations. In parallel, the tournament set-up – its organisation, public image and spon-soring – has become considerably more professional. This is a wonderful development whichbrings us another step closer to our declared aim: to establish the German Boys and Girls Openas one of Europe’s leading youth tournaments in partnership with the DGV and the EGA.

We have continued to work towards this aim in 2008. There will be an international prelimina-ry round in Italy for the first time, and the number of top players will continue to increase. Twofurther international qualifications are planned for the coming year. And to ensure that our spec-tators get their money’s worth we have organised a comprehensive social programme with lotsof attractions. Naturally, it would not have been possible for us to organise such a successfulevent without help. So I would like to take this opportunity to thank the German Golf Associationfor their friendly, professional cooperation, and of course all our sponsors and the members ofthe St. Leon-Rot Golf Club for their continued proactive support.

es gibt nicht viele Turniere in Europa für die Spitzengolfer von morgen, diedas Niveau und die Leistungsdichte der Internationalen Amateurmeister-schaften von Deutschland der Mädchen und Jungen aufweisen können.Daher freut sich der Deutsche Golf Verband ganz besonders, dieses belieb-te Nachwuchs-Event auch im Jahr 2008 austragen zu dürfen.

Ein Event, das sich in seiner fünfjährigen Geschichte einen herausragendenRuf in Europa erworben hat und die Top-Spielerinnen und -Spieler aus aller Welt nach Deutsch-land holt. Entsprechend hochkarätig besetzt präsentiert sich das Starterfeld, immer stärker wer-den die spielerischen Leistungen, mit denen die jungen Amateure auf dem Platz beeindrucken.156 Teilnehmer aus 14 Nationen standen im vergangenen Jahr am Abschlag. Ich bin sicher, eini-ge dieser Hoffnungsträger schon in naher Zukunft bei den ganz großen Turnieren – sowohl imAmateur- als auch im Profibereich – wieder zu sehen. Dass wir den jungen Spielerinnen und Spie-lern mit den Internationalen Amateurmeisterschaften von Deutschland der Mädchen und Jungenein Sprungbrett für eine internationale Karriere bieten können, verdanken wir nicht zuletzt derPartnerschaft mit dem Golf Club St. Leon-Rot, der bereits zum fünften Mal als Gastgeber für dasrenommierte Jugend-Event fungiert.

Very few tournaments in Europe for the top golfers of tomorrow can match the quality and ca-libre of Germany’s International Amateur Championships for Girls and Boys. So the German GolfAssociation is delighted and proud to be staging this popular junior event once again in 2008.

This event has earned itself an outstanding reputation in Europe during its five-year history, andis a magnet for top players from all over the world. The calibre of the starting field and the skilldisplayed by the young amateurs on the fairways is also going from strength to strength. Lastyear 156 competitors from 14 nations teed off for the title. I am sure that we will be encoun-tering some of these hopefuls again in major amateur and professional tournaments in the verynear future. Active kids are important to Capri-Sonne. So we’ve been committed to children’s and young peo-ple’s sports all over the world for many years. Sponsoring the German Boys and Girls Open hasbecome a permanent fixture for us – not least because of the incredibly high quality of the tour-nament and its ever growing reputation on the international circuit.

Naturally, one of the reasons why we decided to get involved was the fact that our head officeis just round the corner from the venue, the St. Leon-Rot Golf Club. But the main reason was thatCapri-Sonne is a global brand that is represented in more than 100 countries, which fits per-fectly with the club’s and the German Golf Association’s aim of establishing the German Boysand Girls Open as one of the world’s leading international youth tournaments. The German Boys and Girls Open are one of the highlights ofGermany’s junior tournament season and can definitely holdtheir own in the international arena. The tournament, which isbeing held for the fifth time in June, each year attracts morethan 150 top junior players from all over the world to theexcellent facilities of the St. Leon-Rot Golf Club. With the sup-port of the title sponsor Capri-Sonne and sponsoring partnerAllianz, the event is experiencing steady year-on-year growthand enjoys ever-increasing competitor numbers, high-qualityperformances and thus increasing significance in the interna-tional junior scene. The organisers, EGA(European Golf Association), DGV (German Golf Association)and the St. Leon-Rot Golf Club, are committed to establishingthe German Boys and Girls Open as one of the leading inter-national junior events. The German Boys and Girls Open at the St. Leon-Rot GolfClub has earned itself a reputation as a junior tournament ofinternational importance. Last year was impressive proof ofthat: 156 young hopefuls from a total of 14 countries teed offat the competition, which was organised by the European GolfAssociation (EGA), the German Golf Association (DGV) andthe St. Leon-Rot Golf Club. On the St. Leon championshipcourse players even got a taste of the atmosphere of a profes-sional competition on the final day, when the club opened itsdoors to visitors for an “Open Day“. More than 1,000 visitors

lined the fairways and greens, following the play and app-lauding good strokes – just like on the PGA European Tour. Anexpert moderator was also on hand: Frank Adamowicz com-mentated from the grandstand at the 18th hole, supportedby patron and Tour pro Denise Simon. In return the players puton a fantastic display of golf with complete commitment, andNicolai Aagaard and Laura-Alexandra Stempfle ultimately beatthe rest of the high-calibre players to claim the tournamenttitles. The 18-year-old Aagaard took the trophy in the juniorsingles and team rounds back to his home country Denmark

with seven under par. The best German was Benedict Gebhardtfrom the Neuhof Golf Club, who came fourth. ChristopherLampert from the St. Leon-Rot Golf Club came in at no. 12. Inthe girls’ tournament, Laura-Alexandra Stempfle, from theHamburg-Holm Golf Club, not only won the single title but alsothe national heats along with Marie Tschida and Sophia Popov.

Over the past few years the German Boys and Girls Openhave been gaining more and more of a reputation on theinternational circuit. This is illustrated by the fact that for thefirst time ever this year we will be staging one of the quali-fying tournaments outside Germany – in Italy. Which bringsus one step closer to our aim of making the event even moreinternational. And we will be going even further next year:the European Golf Association (EGA), the German GolfAssociation (DGV) and the St. Leon-Rot Golf Club are plan-ning to stage at least three of the qualifying tournamentsoutside Germany in 2009. So we would be delighted if otherEuropean golf associations were to follow Italy’s exampleand stage one of these tournaments in their countries. Weare planning to have all the dates for the European qualifi-cation events fixed by the third quarter of this year.

But in our endeavour to give the tournament even more ofan international flavour, we need the support of reliable

and, where possible, long-term partners. We are lucky enoughto have one at our side already – the title sponsor Capri-Sonne, but we would be delighted to welcome on boardany other interested parties who are committed to takingthe German Boys and Girls Open to even greater heights.

This year a total of 150 young hopefuls (100 boys and 50girls) will be teeing off at St. Leon-Rot, all vying to win oneof the much-coveted titles. Fast greens and perfectly pre-pared fairways and bunkers will ensure that all players willenjoy the same excellent, professional conditions.

And it’s not only on the course where conditions are profes-sional. As in previous years, there will be live scoring everyday which will be available both on the tournament website,www.gb-go.de, and also on Germany's leading golf portal,www.golf.de. The St. Leon-Rot Golf Club will also be hold-ing an “Open Day“ on the final day, which it expects to be

very well attended again this year. Besides local visitors, weare also hoping to welcome lots of young golfers from allover Germany. So the St. Leon-Rot Golf Club, which is itselfcurrently sponsoring 500 young players, has written to morethan 300 golf clubs throughout Germany. We hope that theperformance of Europe's best young golfers will inspirethese young players to take part in the German Boys andGirls Open themselves one day.

Among this year’s attractions will be a big grandstand at the18th hole where spectators will eagerly await the players,creating an atmosphere just like the one at European Tourevents. The social highlight of the event will be PlayersNight at the club, which will not only feature delicious foodbut also a grand tombola with exciting prizes.

Schnelle Grüns, bes-tens präparierte Fairways und Bunker sorgen dafür, dass alleSpieler gleich gute und damit professionelle Bedingungen vor-finden werden.

Apropos professionelle Bedingungen: Die finden sich auchaußerhalb des Platzes. Wie schon in den vergangenen Jahrenwird es täglich ein Live-Scoring geben, das nicht nur auf derTurnier-Hompage www.gb-go.de, sondern auch auf Deutsch-lands führendem Golfportal www.golf.de einsehbar ist. Ferner

veranstaltet der Golf Club St. Leon-Rot am Finaltag seinen„Tag der offenen Tür“, zu dem wieder viele Gäste erwartetwerden. Neben den Interessierten aus der Umgebung werdenauch hoffentlich viele junge Golfer aus Deutschland vor Ortsein. Dafür hat der Golf Club St. Leon-Rot, der derzeit rund500 Jugendliche fördert, über 300 Golfclubs in ganzDeutschland angeschrieben. Ziel: Die Jugend der Vereine solldurch die Leistungen der besten jungen Golfer Europas ani-miert werden, ebenfalls eines Tages bei den German Boys andGirls Open abzuschlagen.

Zum Rahmenprogramm gehört zudem die große Tribüne anLoch 18, auf der die Zuschauer die Akteure erwarten und damitfür eine Atmosphäre sorgen, wie man sie nur von Veranstal-tungen der European Tour kennt. Auch die Players Night imClub, die nicht nur für leckeres Essen, sondern auch für einegroße Tombola mit tollen Preisen steht, sorgt für ein besonde-res Flair.

Die German Boys and Girls Open im Golf Club St. Leon-Rot ha-ben in den vergangenen Jahren immer mehr an Prestige ge-wonnen und so überrascht es kaum, dass die Qualifikation fürdas wichtigste deutsche Jugendturnier wegen des starken In-teresses modifiziert wurde. Erstmals wird in diesem Jahr eineQualifikationsveranstaltung im Ausland (Italien) ausgespielt,dem Wunsch der Veranstalter nach einer noch größeren Inter-nationalisierung wird damit Rechnung getragen. Auch für diedeutschen Vorturniere gibt es Neuerungen. Nachdem für diedrei Qualifikationsturniere 2007 über 400 Anmeldungen ein-gegangen waren und deshalb nicht immer alle Interessiertenspielen konnten, wurde die Ausschreibung für die German Boysand Girls Open 2008 in Übereinstimmung mit dem DeutschenGolf Verband (DGV) wie folgt geändert:

Ab sofort werden die Turniere (Einzel-Zählspiel ohne Vorgabe)nur noch in einer Klasse ausgetragen. Dafür wurde die Vor-gabengrenze auf -10,9 bei den Jungen und -14,9 bei den Mäd-

chen heraufgesetzt. Durch diese Änderungen soll zum einenerreicht werden, dass alle Anmeldungen zu den drei Turnierenberücksichtigt werden können und zum anderen, dass dassportliche Leistungsniveau innerhalb der Veranstaltungen an-gehoben wird. Unverändert bleibt hingegen der Modus: Fürdie German Boys and Girls Open 2008 qualifizieren sich jeweilsdie vier besten Jungen und die zwei besten Mädchen derBruttowertung aus allen drei nationalen Qualifikationsturnieren.

Golfclub München EichenriedDer Platz liegt gut 20 Minuten nördlich von München ent-fernt und ist seit vielen Jahren Gastgeber des European-Tour-Events BMW International Open. Insgesamt verfügt der Clubüber 27 Bahnen, auf denen der Golfer nicht zuletzt wegen derzahlreichen Wasserhindernisse und Bunker immer wieder ge-

fordert ist. Der flache und lange Kurs erfordert ein technischund taktisch versiertes Golfspiel.

Golfclub Hofgut ScheibenhardtOptisch geprägt wird die Anlage vom gleichnamigen Gut mitSchloss und Wassergraben aus dem 17. Jahrhundert. VonHochwald umgeben, ziehen sich die 18 Spielbahnen über ebe-nes Gelände, wobei viele neu angepflanzte Büsche und Bäumeder Anlage Parkland-Charakter verleihen. Auf den Spielbahnengilt es, der strategischen Bebunkerung und den stark ondu-lierten Grüns ganze Aufmerksamkeit zu schenken.

Golfclub Am Alten FliessDer sportlich anspruchsvolle 27-Löcher-Meisterschaftsplatz be-findet sich am Rand des rheinischen Vorgebirges und rund 25Kilometer von Köln entfernt. Die natürliche Formgebung unddie anspruchsvollen Bahnen in der leicht hügeligen Landschaftwerden auch anspruchsvollen Golfern gerecht.

DIE QUALIFIKATION

The German Boys and Girls Open at the St. Leon-Rot GolfClub have increasingly gained prestige over the past few years.So it is no surprise that what is now Germany’s biggest youthtournament is attracting massive interest. To accommodatethis the qualification procedure has had to be changed. Thisyear for the first time, one of the qualification events is tobe held abroad (in Italy) in line with the organisers’ desire tomake the tournament even more international. Some changeshave also been made to the German preliminary rounds. Afterhaving to turn away some of the more than 400 applicationsfor the three qualifying tournaments in 2007, the GermanGolf Association (DGV) has agreed the following changes tothe schedule for the German Boys and Girls Open 2008:

From this year, tournaments will only be played in one class(single stroke play without handicap). But the handicap limit isbeing reduced to -10.9 for boys and -14.9 for girls. Thesechanges should enable everyone who enters the three tourna-

ments to compete, and should also help boost the standard ofplay in the events. The method remains the same, however: thefour boys and two girls with the best gross score from all threequalification tournaments will qualify for the German Boys andGirls Open 2008.

THE VENUES FOR THE QUALIFICATION TOURNAMENTS ARE

Munich Eichenried Golf ClubThis course is just over 20 minutes north of Munich and hashosted the BMW International Open European Tour events formany years. The club has a total of 27 holes, all of which haveplenty of water hazards and bunkers to challenge the players.The long, flat course is both technically and tactically de-manding.

Hofgut Scheibenhardt Golf ClubThis course is laid out in the grounds of the eponymous 17thcentury moated palace. Surrounded by forests, the 18 fair-ways are on level ground that has been given a parklandcharacter with extensive new shrub and tree plantings. Onthe fairways players must focus all their attention on thestrategic bunkers and heavily undulating greens.

Am Alten Fliess Golf ClubThis difficult 27-hole championship course is located on theedge of the Rhine foothills about 25 kilometres outside Co-logne. The natural shapes and challenging fairways in thegently hilly landscape are perfect for even the most discern-ing golfer.

Circolo Golf VeneziaDer Club wurde 1928 gegründet und war somit als klassich schottischer Links Course einer derersten in Italien. Auf der Insel Lido di Venezia, nahe Venedig, befindet sich dieser waldreiche Platzin unmittelbarer Nähe zu den Sandstränden. Aufgrund zahlreicher Bäume, welche die Fairwaysdes Paltzes säumen, gilt dieser Kurs als technisch sehr anspruchsvoll und besonders interessant.Dabei sticht vom Schwierigkeitsgrad das Loch Nummer 9 heraus, da es als Par 3 Loch völlig blindgespielt werden muss. Seit 2004 finden auf diesem schön gelegenen Golfplatz nicht zuletzt des-halb regelmäßig die Italien Seniors Open mit internationaler Besetzung statt.

Circolo Golf VeneziaFounded in 1928 this traditional Scottish links course was one of the first Golf Clubs in Italy. The island “Lido di Venezia” on which Circolo Golf Club is located is situated close to Venice.Furthermore the course is surrounded by sandy beaches.Because of the number of trees loca-ted on the fairways of the course it is deemed to be a technical very difficult and therefore veryattractive course. Because of its character as a par 3 hole played totally blind hole number 9 isoutstanding concerning the difficulty. The Italien Seniors Open with an international participa-tion are played on this beautiful situated golf course since 2004.

Vorgabengrenzen / Höchstzahl der Teilnehmer:Mädchen: Stammvorgabe -6,9 / Jungen: Stammvorgabe -2,9.Höchstzahl der Teilnehmer: 38 Mädchen und 82 Jungen sowie die Qualifizierten aus 1.b) und c).Gehen mehr Meldungen als die festgelegte Höchstzahl der Teilnehmer ein, so werden dieBewerber/-innen mit den höchsten Stammvorgaben herausgenommen. Bei gleicher Stamm-vorgabe entscheidet das Los.

3. Wertungen:Einzelwertung jeweils für Jungen und Mädchen: Zählspiel über 54 Löcher.Für die dritte Runde qualifizieren sich die Mädchen mit den besten 20 Ergebnissen über dieersten 36 Löcher sowie alle Schlaggleichen und die Jungen mit den besten 40 Ergebnissen überdie ersten 36 Löcher sowie alle Schlaggleichen. Die Siegerin gewinnt den Titel “German GirlsOpen Champion, 2008”. Der Sieger gewinnt den Titel “German Boys Open Champion, 2008”.

Nationenwertung:Getrennte Bruttowertung für Mädchen- und Jungenmannschaften.Zählspiel über 36 Löcher an 2 Spieltagen: Mannschaften müssen von nationalen Verbänden ge-meldet werden und bestehen jeweils aus höchstens 3 Mädchen bzw. 3 Jungen. Der letzte Ter-min für die Nominierung einer Mannschaft von Spieler/-innen für die Nationenwertung ist amVortag des Wettspiels bis 15.00 Uhr. Meldungen an das Wettspielbüro, vorher an die DGV-Geschäftsstelle.
