As market leader ZIEGLER is manufacturing standard vehicles according to DIN/EN for the German fire fighting market, however, additionally custom-made solutions for nearly every case of application.

Many of these vehicles are in use at various fire brigades and will be presented after the standard vehicles as examples on the following pages.

They comprise the following ranges:

At first, the superstructure conceptions with the proven aluminium panelsystem(ALPAS),themodularconceptionoftheZIEGLERdesignand important functions of the major components will be explained.

WhereverpossibleZIEGLERisusingmodularelementsidenticalinproduction of standard vehicles and special vehicles. In long-term cooperation with fire brigades worldwide and by company-owned designs proven technical solutions have been developed which are continuously checked on function and eventually improved or adapted to new designs.

Of course our design engineers are following the mounting guidelinesspecifiedbythechassismanufacturers.Specialsolutionswill be designed and realized in close coordination with the chassis manufacturer.

Safetyandfunctionalityaretheguidingprinciplesforthedesignofour fire fighting superstructures regardless whether a compact super-structure or a multipart modular system is concerned. Generally the superstructure will be fixed on the assembly frame which is connected with the chassis frame in a way that a safe and hard-wearing storage of the complete superstructure is provided meetingthetoughdemandsofuse.Fixingoftheassemblyframeonthe chassis frame is made according to the mounting instructions of the chassis manufacturers. Thus, it will be made sure that the chassis can twist unimpededly to thecorresponding nature of the ground.

After the extremely successful launch of the patented aluminium panel system(ALPAS)withlightstructuralprofilestodaynearlyallvehiclesuperstructures are manufactured with this system. In further developmentwehavedesignedanadaptedprofile“ALPAS-Compact“ for the “light” series,thusALPASisavailableinaspecialversion for vehicles of a lower total weight than 11 t .

Thanks to the connection of the aluminium elements by drop forged parts a very high flexural strength and extremely high torsion strength

is provided. The aluminium elements will be anodized after processing (bores,threadcuts,sawcuts)andtheconnectingelementswillbealsocatalyticallypaintedafterprocessing.Consequently,anextremelyhigh corrosion resistance will be achieved and any contact corrosion will be excluded.

Onrequestandaccordingtothespaceavailableatthechassis,thesuperstructure between front axle and rear axle will be lowered as far aspossible.Thus,averyfavourableremovalheight(approx.600mm)forheavyapparatuswillbeachieved.Thelowerrangeoftheequipmentlockersisshutbytailboardflaps.Whenbeinghingedtheyareusedastreadsforaccesstotheequipmentlockers.Thewalk-onsideoftheflaps is provided with anti-slip surface. The mechanism of the flaps is supported by gas springs which also ensure the closed condition.Behind the last axle the superstructure is realized as real lowered designoftheequipmentlockersno.3andno.4respectivelyno.5andno.6whicharealsoshutbytailboardflaps.Theequipmentlockerlighting will be switched automatically via magneto switches.

Thefirefightingequipmentwillbesafelyandpracticallystoredintheequipmentlockersontheroof,partiallyinslidesandtelescopicdrawers and also in removable boxes and on solid swivel walls. The aluminium profile system of the screwed inside installation is variable. Consequently,itcanbeideallyadaptedwiththecorrespondingrequirements.Theroofofthesuperstructurecanbewalked-on,the limitation of the roof consists of an aluminium roof screen with integrated ambiance lighting according to the new standard DIN EN 1846-2:2010-01.Accessviaahingedascendingladderattherearofthe vehicle having a bevel when being hinged, thus providing safe climbing.Theequipmentlockersareprovidedasstandardwithdustproof and watertight ZIEGLER roller shutters which also are available in lockable type.

Thanks to the close cooperation with many recognized manufacturers the professional installation or mounting of special units such as winches, light masts, generators, powder extinguishing units, loading cranes, telescopic light masts, change-over units for swap bodies and many more is guaranteed. These units will be provided with the necessary output via different systems mainly by the corresponding p.t.o. from the vehicle engine.

Exact electronic controls according to state-of-the-art-technology allow easy and safe operation which is an extremely important aspect in the stressful case of emergency.Together with leading manufacturers of superstructures and componentstheinterface“FireCan”hasbeendevelopedbywhichaccess to the external components installed in the vehicle can be provided. Thus, the use of telediagnostic and the surveillance of maintenance intervals can be realized if desired.

Other trend-setting product innovations have been introduced at the INTERSCHUTZ2010.Amongthemareournewlydevelopedspaciouscrew-cabZ-CabandthenewpumpcontrolZ-Control.Therelevanttechnical information can be found in the chapter “Novelties“.

ALPAS

Extreme stabilityAluminium has been used in the sophisticated vehicle production for a long time. Thanks to the shape of panels the material is solid and will not change even at extreme stress from multiple sourcer. The ZIEGLER aluminium panel is manufactured as a flat, multi-cellular, closed shell, thus extremely torsion-resistant.

Optimum corrosion protectionBymeansofeloxalcoatingof20µ(customaryare10µ)anALPASvehicle superstructure is extremely corrosion-resistant as well as abrasion-proof. The coating is made after cut and processing of the profiles. Thus, an optimum surface protection will be provided. This coatingisuniqueonthemarket.

Maximum resistanceThe extremely high flexural strength and torsional rigidity will be achieved mainly by the structure of the aluminium panels and by form-closed bolted corner joints. Additionally, they ensure a firm connection between the profiles.

Highest safetyThe cable duct with plug connections run inside the panels, safely protected against damages.

Variable inside installation with sliding rail profilesThesubsequentinstallationofshelves,slidesanddrawersispossibleat any time and provides many variation possibilities. Thanks to smooth running, solid aluminium profile slides with clamping bracketsgiveasafeholdoftheequipment.Goodaccesstoheavyap-paratuswhichareextremelylowstored,consequentlyusefulpositivesideeffectonthecompletedrivingquality.

Aluminium panelsThe aluminium panels form a load ring that is so strong that no further inside reinforcements or honeycomb constructions are needed in the equipmentcompartment.Soeverycentimetreofspaceandeverygramofweightreservecanbeusedoptimally.Unbeatableflexibility and variability.

The two self-supporting load rings of aluminium panel form with the joining cross-struts and the aluminium sheet planking a rugged and extremely flexible mounting principle which is only available at ZIEGLER.This principle applies for two-part and three-part superstructures, regardless which version will be chosen by you. In addition to durability, stability and flexibility there is one further practical use for the fire brigade.

ALPASprovidesstabilityatalldrawers.Evenatstrongestdistortionall control elements can be used smooth-running. If a reconstruction due to changed tactics of the fire brigade or a modificationoftheequipmentwouldbenecessarylater-on,thiswillbepossiblesubsequentlywithverylittleeffortatanytime.

Two-part and three-part superstructure, OK and ZORModular variants

ALPAS superstructure with 2 or 3 equipment lockers, on chassis of MB or MAN – you will get both variants from usTheequipmentlockersarelowered.The advantage of the lowered design is practical removal of heavy equipmentpartssuchasgeneratorand hydraulic rescue apparatus.

Optimized superstructureDue to the larger available space oftheALPASsuperstructure(type OK)allequipmentparts(exceptofscaling ladder and extensionladder)are easy removably stored in the superstructure. Onrequest,specialconstruction heights are available.

ALPAS-ZOR This superstructure conception can be also supplied in two-part or three-part version. It is manufactured with the proven aluminium panel system, too. Loadingofcomprehensiveequipmentis possible, thus it is suitable for special fire fighting/rescue vehicles HLF.Partoftheequipmentis the integrated roller shutter system ZOR including roof screens with through ambiance lighting. This superstructure conception with roof boxes provides upto2,2m³additionalavailable space for the auxiliary equipment.The roller shutter system ZOR prevents soiling in the superstructure and allows better maintenance.
