Wir haben sie geliebt, unsere kleine Fabrik am

Ufer der Neiße, umgeben von Pappeln und

Weiden, der Blick ging hinüber auf polnische

Auen. Doch im vergangenen August trat der Fluss

über die Ufer, überschwemmte Maschinen und

einen Großteil der Lagerbestände. Das schlam-

mige Wasser stand hüfthoch in den Räumen, wir

kämpften tagelang, um zu retten, was noch zu

retten war. Der Schaden ging in die Millionen. Wir

haben das Werk aufgeben müssen.

Die Yeti-Community hat uns in dieser Zeit groß-

artig geholfen – noch mal ein ganz herzliches

Dankeschön dafür.

Die Füße sind wieder trocken, die Augen noch

ein kleines bisschen feucht. Doch binnen eines

halben Jahres haben wir einen neuen Firmensitz

gefunden. Görlitz sind wir treu geblieben, wir

haben alle Arbeitsplätze halten können. Darauf

sind wir stolz. Kürzlich hat uns die Oskar-Patzelt-

Stiftung für den „Großen Preis des Mittelstandes“

nominiert.

Editorial

Was haben wir gelernt? Dass wir das Richtige tun.

Natur liegt in einem Moment wunderschön und

friedlich da, im nächsten kommt sie mit ungeheu-

rer Wucht daher. Um für solche Situationen gut

ausgerüstet zu sein – dafür arbeiten wir.

„Wir sollten nicht versuchen, Überraschungen

zu meiden“, sagt der französische Philosoph und

Risikoforscher Patrick Lagadec, „Sondern uns

vorbereiten, überrascht zu werden.“

Also haben wir ein paar Weltneuheiten entwi-

ckelt. Vielleicht ein bisschen inspiriert durchs

Hochwasser statteten wir die Schlafsäcke der

Elements-Linie mit einer neuen Kunstfaser aus:

Feine, imprägnierte Polyesterfäden, die nicht nur

Wasser abweisen, nicht nur hervorragend die

Körperwärme halten, sondern sich zudem extrem

weich und kuschelig anfühlen – nahe dran an

einer echten Yeti-Daune.

Hinweisen möchte ich Sie außerdem auf die

leichteste, für Expeditionen geeignete Daunen-

jacke der Welt: „Ambition“, 380 Gramm leicht.

Gewebt aus dem robusten, doch hauchzarten

LightyGram, gefüllt mit hochwertigen Crystal

Down. Den tschechischen Bergsteiger Radek Jaroš

hat sie bereits auf über 8.000 Meter Höhe beglei-

tet, auf den Lhotse im Himalaya-Massiv.

We adored our small factory on the banks of the

Neisse River, surrounded by poplars and willows,

with a view of green meadows across the river

in Poland. Last August, the river swelled beyond

its banks and flooded the machines and most of

our inventory. We did all that we could to try to

salvage what was still to be saved from amidst

waist-high water. The damages that resulted from

the flood rose into the millions. We had no choice

but to abandon the factory.

Yeti’s friends and colleagues helped us immensely

during those difficult times, for which we would

like to thank you once again.

Our feet have dried, but our eyes are still moist.

Within six months, we found a new headquarters.

Our contact to the city Görlitz remains strong;

we managed to maintain all our employees there,

which we are quite proud of. Most recently, the

Oskar Patzelt Foundation nominated Yeti for the

“Großen Preis des Mittelstandes.“

What have we learned from the flood? To be pre-

pared for what the weather may bring tomorrow.

Nature is graceful and serene, but from time to

time, she shows her immense strength, as she did

in Görlitz last year.

“We should not try to avoid surprises,” with

regards to nature’s forces, “but rather, we should

prepare to be surprised,” as noted by the French

philosopher and risk-researcher Patrick Lagadec.

We have developed several unparalleled new

innovations. Perhaps we were inspired in part by

the floodwaters as we equipped the sleeping bags

in our Elements Series with new synthetic fibers.

These fine-spun, waterproof polyester threads not

only repel water and retain body warmth but also

feel soft and warm to the touch, much like Yeti’s

classic goose down.

I would also like to draw your attention to our

Ambition Jacket; at 380 grams, it is the world’s

lightest-weight down expedition jacket, woven

from sturdy, ultra-light LightyGram fibers and

filled with high-quality Crystal Down. The

Ambition Jacket recently accompanied the Czech

mountain climber Radek Jaroš on his expedition

to Lhotse Mountain, at an elevation well above

8,000 meters in the Himalayas.

Next to NothingA Matter of Honor

Next to Nothing - TechnologyDie Next to Nothing - Technology bedeutet unter anderem, dass

wir für alle Lightweight-Produkte die derzeit leichtesten und

exklusivsten Materialien verarbeiten. So wiegt das daunendichte

Ripstop-Nylon-Gewebe nur 25 Gramm pro Quadratmeter.

Das Geheimnis der Leichtigkeit liegt in den 1.000 Kilometern

Garn, die die Daunen zusammenhalten. Dieses Garn hat die Größe

von einem Zehntel eines menschlichen Haares, die 1.000 Kilome-

ter Garn wiegen 140 Gramm.

Trotzdem erweist sich das luftige Gewebe als erstaunlich reißfest.

Und es garantiert, dass sich die Yeti Fashion Styles als wasser-

abweisend, windresistent und atmungsaktiv zeigen. Im Damen-

mantel „Above“ beispielsweise, sorgen 20.000 Daunen mit einem

Durchmesser von ca. 4 cm dafür, dass Ihr Körper stets wohltem-

periert ist. Alle Styles lassen sich extrem komprimieren auf die

Größe einer Grapefruit.

LIMITIERTE AUFLAGE

Es gibt auf der Welt nur 5 Webmaschinen die ein solch feines

Material herstellen können. Jede produziert nur 35 Meter pro Tag.

Next to Nothing - TechnologyWe use the lightest and most exclusive new materials to produce

our lightweight products - we call this Next to Nothing Techno-

logy. Using these super-lightweight materials, our down-proof,

rip-stop nylon fabrics weigh only 25 grams per square meter.

The secret behind this lightness lies in the thousand kilometers of

thread that keep the down together. Each of these threads is only

one-tenth of the width of a human hair. Counted together, 1,000

kilometers of this thread weigh only 140 grams.

These materials are as durable and tear-proof as they are light

and airy. Each of the Yeti Fashion Styles is guaranteed to be wa-

ter-repellent, wind-resistant and breathable. In the women’s coat

“Above,” 20,000 down with a diameter of around four centimeters

each provide its wearer with a well-tempered environment. All of

our styles can be compacted to the size of a grapefruit.

LIMITED EDITION

There are only five weaving machines in the world that are

capable of producing such high-quality fabrics. Each of these

produces only 35 meters of fabric per day.

und gewalkt. Heute fertigen acht Yeti-Mitarbeiter rund 10.000 Daunen-

Schlafsäcke im Jahr, die zu den besten der Welt zählen.

Vom Yeti-Geschäftsführer bis zum Mann vom Vertrieb arbeiten alle Tür

an Tür – die meistens offen stehen. Das hat zwei Vorteile: man hält es

hier nur aus, wenn man die Kollegen wenigstens ein bisschen mag. Und

die Qualität der Produktion ist für jeden sichtbar.

Die Daunen werden vor der Anlieferung regelmäßig in Laboren auf

ihre Güte geprüft, ebenso durchlaufen die Textilien externe Qualitäts-

Checks. Das Gespür von langjährigen Mitarbeitern wie Birgit, Sophia,

Alex, Ramona und Ingrid allerdings ist unersetzlich. Jede Daunenfüllung,

jeder Quadratmeter Textil geht durch ihre Hände. Sie sehen, spüren und

riechen, ob Reife, Bauschkraft, Mischungsverhältnis, Geschmeidigkeit

und Geruch den Anforderungen an eine Crystal Down genügen. Mit

geschlossenen Augen erkennen sie ein NTN Gewebe, mit offenen die

Fehler in einem AquaProPlus-Bezug. Schlampereien verzeihen sie nicht,

ihr Urteil ist gnadenlos. Für sie ist Qualität nicht nur eine Frage von

Richtlinien, sondern auch eine Frage der Ehre.

Handmade in GermanyA Matter of Honor

Yeti produces in Germany. Their small factory is located in Görlitz, Sa-

xony. First-class cloths have been woven and fulled here since centuries

ago. These days, eight Yeti employees produce 10,000 down sleeping

bags per year, which rank among the best in the world.

From the Yeti Managing Director to the salesman, the doors to their

offices are next to each other and are usually open. This has two advan-

tages: one can only bear working here if he or she gets along well with

the others and the quality of production is visible to everyone.

Prior to delivery, the quality of the down is checked regularly at labora-

tories and the textiles pass through external quality checks. The quality

standards of established employees such as Birgit, Sophia, Alex, Ramona

and Ingrid are irreplaceable. Each down filling and each square meter of

textile pass through their hands. They use their senses of touch, sight,

and smell to determine whether the maturity, fill power, softness and

odor comply with the specifications of a true Crystal Down. With their

eyes closed, they identify an NTN fabric; with their eyes open, they find

any imperfections there might be in an AquaProPlus cover. They do not

pardon sloppiness and their judgment is merciless. For them, quality is

not just a question of guidelines, but a also a question of honor.

Since its debut at the 2009 Fashion Week in

Tokyo, the Companyon Series has caused quite

a sensation in the fashion industry. Inspired

by this collection, the designer Yuko Yamaz-

aki developed her own limited-edition series

exclusively for Yeti. Her team had already

had experience processing down with the

ultra-light LightyGram. The collection has the

same technical features as the Companyon

products: items from her collection can be

similarly compacted into a small size but the

focus on fashion is more visible, with collared

shirts, embellished buttons, and blazer-style

down jackets. The Yeti-Japan-Connection.

Seit die Companyon-Serie auf der Fashion

Week in Tokio vorgestellt wurde, erregte sie

in der Branche großes Aufsehen. Inspiriert

von dieser Collection hat die Designerin Yuko

Diese Kohlenstoff-Fasern werden bei 1.600 Grad Celsius

aus Kokosnuss-Schalen gewonnen. Durch die besondere

Oberflächenstruktur des Carbons werden Geruchsbakterien

im Gewebe eingeschlossen und absorbiert. Dadurch kann

so gut wie kein Körpergeruch entstehen. Zudem hat die

Faser einen „Fast-Dry-Effect“: Sie saugt die Körperfeuch-

tigkeit schneller auf als andere Materialien und lässt sie

auch wieder verdunsten. Das Elastan-Nylon-Gewebe bietet

den UV-Schutz 50+ nach australischem Standard.

Light four-way stretch pieces for hard training with

innovative Cocona-fibres.

These carbon fibres are attained from coconut shells at

1,600 degrees celsius. The unique surface structure of this

carbon captures and absorbs odor-producing bacteria

within the textile, thereby limiting body odor. Moreover,

the fiber has a “Fast-Dry-Effect“: it absorbs body moisturef

faster than other materials and allows it to evaporate.

The elastane-nylon fabric provides UV-protection 50+

according to Australian standard.

nie kalt. Skrupellose Wissenschaftler sollen Gänse

einmal in eine Kühlkammer gesperrt haben. Sie

drehten die Lufttemperatur auf minus 110 Grad

Celsius herunter. Als sie die Tür wieder entrie-

gelten, watschelte ihnen die Vogelschar munter

und wohlauf entgegen. Ein Eisbär hätte das nicht

überlebt.

Dennoch wollen die wenigsten Menschen mit

einem Wasservogel tauschen. Die meisten

fürchten um ihre Intelligenz, mit deren Hilfe man

zum Beispiel Kühlkammern bauen kann, um zu

erforschen, warum Gänse und Enten nicht frieren,

und um zu staunen: Das Gefieder isoliert perfekt.

Energetisch betrachtet sind Gänse und Enten die

effizientesten Kraft-Wärme-Kopplungskraftwerke

aller Zeiten.

Federn und Daunen speichern die Abwärme des

Körpers und heizen ihn damit von außen. So

A human being in a down sleeping bag is half-

human and half-goose. If he were a goose, and

not a human, he would never feel cold. Some

ruthless scientists are said to have once locked up

geese in a cooling chamber. They then decreased

the air temperature to minus 110 degrees Celsius.

As the scientists opened the door to the chamber

after the experiment, the geese waddled towards

them in good health. A polar bear would not have

survived such an experience.

Nevertheless, most people would never think of

trading places with a waterfowl. They would miss

their human intelligence, without which they

could not devise cooling chambers to research

the reasons why geese and ducks do not freeze.

And the reason is: feathers insulate perfectly. In

terms of energy efficiency, geese and ducks are

the most efficient heat and energy power plants

the world has ever seen.

Feathers and down capture escaped body heat

and use it to warm the body from outside. Fewer

calories are required to keep the body’s internal

temperature around 37 degrees Celsius. With a

better insulation, the body retains more of its

own heat and energy. Since over 2,000 years ago,

shivering people have been trying to copy the

goose’s insulating principle, with variable success.

Gentle but tough

If we could sew a decent cover using only the

plumage of a waterfowl, we would do it. But the

flight feathers proved too unwieldy. The down

Je Loftiger, desto luftiger

Sie sind statische Meisterwerke. Daunen besitzen

eine Bauschkraft, auch Fillpower oder Loft

genannt, die leichtem Druck standhält, höherem

Druck aber bereitwillig nachgibt. Mit ihren filigra-

nen, gebogenen Verstrebungen gleichen sie win-

zigen Kathedralen. Während die echten aus Stein

allerdings nach einmaligem Zusammenbruch

ruiniert sind, richten sich die natürlichen aus

Keratin immer wieder auf. Die gesamte Füllung

eines Passion One-Schlafsacks könnte man in

die rund 60.000 Daunen wieder heraus, entfalte-

ten sie sich wieder zur vollen Pracht.

Thousands and thousands of super-soft, keratin

filaments grow radially outwards from a tiny cen-

ter. Each of these filaments contains innumerable

tiny, branch-like fibers with nearly invisible hooks.

When the down are packed together, they attach

themselves to each other using these hooks and

build thousands of tiny, warmth-retaining air

chambers. This natural solution is lighter, more

flexible and better insulated than anything that

humankind has ever developed.

The loftier, the fluffier

Down are static masterpieces. They have a fill

power, also known as loft, that resists a small

amount of pressure but gives in under stronger

pressure. They resemble miniscule cathedrals with

their filigreed, curved crossbeams. After a single

impact, the real stone crossbeams of a cathedral

would be ruined forever; those made of keratin,

however, can withstand any impact and always

spring back to their correct form. The entire filling

of a single Passion One sleeping bag could be

compressed into just 60 thimbles. If one were

to extract each of the 60,000 down again, they

would once again unfurl into their original glory

and loft.

Hier werden die Daunen mit Brunnenwasser

gewaschen, dann erhitzt, um eventuelle Keime zu

töten, schließlich sortiert, bis in ihnen nur noch

ein kleiner Anteil winziger Federn übrig bleibt.

Eine gesunde, ausgewachsene Gans liefert aus-

gereifte, hochwertige Daunenfl ocken. Je größer

die sind, desto enormer die Bauschkraft und der

Raum für das isolierende Luftpolster. Eine Crystal

Down 900+ zum Beispiel misst vom Kern bis zum

äußeren Ende zwei, im Durchmesser rund vier

Zentimeter. Unreife Daunen dagegen, die bei

der Mauser von Jungtieren anfallen, sind kleiner

und spitzer und bohren sich leichter durch den

Außenbezug. Ein weiterer Grund, warum wir die

nicht haben wollen.

Auch reife Exemplare können zuweilen aus der

Hülle herauslugen. Da wir Wert auf atmungsakti-

ve Gewebe legen, die den Schlafkomfort und die

Lebensdauer der Daunen erhöhen, können wir das

nicht ausschließen. Falls sich ein paar vorwitzi-

ge Daunen hervorwagen – keine Panik! Um die

Austrittsstelle nicht zu vergrößern, sollten Sie

den Ausreißer nicht herauszupfen. Drücken Sie

ihn, oder – besser noch – ziehen Sie ihn von der

Innenseite zurück in die Hülle und verreiben die

Stelle mit dem Fingernagel. Dann kommt nichts

nach. Grundsätzlich gilt: Die Natur lässt sich nicht

völlig beherrschen. Gut so.

Gemessen wird der Loft von Laboren, die dem

International Down and Feather Laboratory (IDFL)

in Salt Lake City, USA, unterstehen. Man gibt

30 Gramm Daunen in einen Glaszylinder, belastet

sie mit einem Normgewicht und misst in Kubikzoll

das Volumen, das die Daunen unter diesem Druck

beibehalten. Je höher das Volumen, desto höher

der Loft und die Qualität. Yeti-Gänsedaunen

erreichen die höchstmögliche Bauschkraft von bis

zu 900 cubic inch (Kubikzoll). In Würdigung ihrer

großen, organisch gewachsenen Kraft und Schön-

heit nennen wir sie „Crystal Down“.

Yeti Ethical Code: vom Ei zur Crystal Down

Die Herkunft der Daunen ist uns wichtig getreu

der Philosophie: Wer Menschen ermutigt, die

Wunder der Welt kennen zu lernen, sollte diese

schätzen. Als erste Outdoorfi rma der Welt hat Yeti

jetzt ein Kodierungssystem entwickelt, das den

Weg vom Ei über Aufzucht bis zur Crystal Down

transparent macht. 90 Prozent unserer Produkte

können wir bereits mit diesem Code versehen – in

Kürze werden es alle sein.

Diese Daunen stammen von Gänsen und Enten,

die freilaufend und artgerecht auf europäischen

Bauernhöfen aufwachsen. Die Tiere werden zur

Fleischgewinnung gezüchtet und erst nach ihrem

Tod gerupft. Wir arbeiten mit Bauern zusammen,

die sich vertraglich verpfl ichtet haben, die Tiere

nicht lebend zu rupfen. Yeti ächtet diese Metho-

de, die schmerzhaft ist, weil sie selten exakt zur

Mauser durchgeführt wird. Tierärzte kontrollieren

die Einhaltung unserer Aufl agen.

Der Yeti Ethical Code dokumentiert Loft, Region

und Farmbetrieb, Vogelrasse und Mischungsver-

hältnis. 800RP1PWKG955 zum Beispiel bedeutet:

Loft is measured by laboratories under the su-

pervision of the International Down and Feather

Laboratory (IDFL) in Salt Lake City, USA. An ounce

(28 grams) of down is placed in a fl ask, a standard

weight is applied and the volume maintained the

down maintains under this pressure is measured

in cubic inches. The higher the volume, the higher

the loft and the quality. Yeti-down achieve the

highest possible bulking power of 900 cubic in-

ches. In recognition of its large, organically grown

power and beauty they are called „Crystal Down“.

Yeti Ethical Code: from the egg to Crystal Down

The origin of the down is important to our phi-

losophy: whoever encourages humans to get to

know the miracles of the world should appreciate

and protect them. Yeti is the fi rst outdoor compa-

ny in the world to have designed a coding system

that shows the development of the down from

its origins as an egg to its fi nal stage as Crystal

Down. At the moment, 90 percent of our products

already include such a code. In the near future, all

of our products will be coded.

The down comes from geese and ducks that have

been born and raised on free-range European

farms with the appropriate conditions. The

animals are raised for meat production and are

plucked after their death, not before. We work

with farmers who have committed in writing not

to pluck the animals while they are still alive. Yeti

abhors this method because it is painful to the

animals when it is executed before their natural

change of feathers. Veterinarians inspect our

compliance with the requirements.

The Yeti Ethical Code indicates information about

loft, the origin of the down including its region

and farm, bird species and mixing ratio. For

example, the code 800RP1PWKG955 indicates a

down with at least 800 cubic inches loft, origina-

ting from a White Koludzka goose from a farm in

the Poznan region of Poland, and a fi ll including

95 percent down and fi ve percent feathers, com-

mensurate with DIN-EN 12934 standards.

The mixing ratio of down and feathers is stated in

percent by weight; previous conventions used to

describe volumes were confusing and are hardly

used anymore. A vest with a 100 grams

of fi lling in a “95/5” mixture includes 95 grams

of down and 5 grams of feathers. To explain this

even more precisely: since each down weighs only

a thousandth of a gram, approximately 47,499

down are included in such a vest.

The refi nement of the raw down is done by a

family business in Germany that has been refi ning

down and feathers since four generations ago.

The down is washed with spring-water and then

heated to kill any possible germs; fi nally, a sorting

process begins which qualifi es only a small porti-

A healthy, adult goose supplies mature, high

quality, fl uffy down. The bigger the goose is, the

higher the fi ll power and the more room there is

for insulating air cushions. For example, a Crystal

Down with a loft of 900+ has a diameter of

around four centimeters when measured from

the center to the farthest edge. Down that have

not yet achieved their full maturity at the time

of plucking, on the other hand, are shorter and

sharper and pierce more easily through the outer

covering. Which is another reason why we do not

use such down.

Even mature down may sometimes pierce

through the cover. Since we place a great deal of

importance on breathable fabrics that increase

sleeping comfort and the lifetime of the down,

we cannot completely avoid such occurrences.

There is no need to panic, should a few mischie-

vous down try to escape. To prevent their exit

paths from growing larger, you should avoid

pulling out the adventurous down. Either press on

the down or pull it back into the cover from the

other side and rub the spot with your fi ngernail.

This will prevent more down from coming out.

As a matter of principle: nature is not completely

controllable. And that’s okay for us.

Im Schadensfall wenden Sie sich an einen autorisierten Yeti-

Händler. Der schickt das gute Stück nach Görlitz, wo wir es binnen

weniger Tage begutachten, fachgerecht waschen, reparieren oder

ersetzen. Im Zweifelsfall setzen wir uns mit Ihnen in Verbindung.

Diesen Service bieten wir auch außerhalb von Garantiefällen.

Sie können bei uns Ihren Schlafsack oder Ihre Jacke schonend

waschen und trocknen lassen; anschließend verklopfen wir die

Daunen, um sie perfekt zu positionieren. Bei Bedarf tauschen wir

die Füllung gegen eine neue aus – komplett oder nur in einigen

Kammern, wie Sie wünschen.

Nach Ihren Maßen und Vorstellungen schneidern wir darüber hin-

aus Sonderstücke. Jeder Schlafsack hat einen ausgetüftelte Schnitt

und eine bestimmte Anzahl von Kammern. Manche Schlafsäcke

besitzen 24 Kammern, andere über 70. Man kann sie mit zwei oder

70 Gramm Daune befüllen - je nach Sensibilität der Körperregion

und Härte des Einsatzgebiets. Die Module sind variabel. Wir haben

das Know how, um Sie zu beraten.

Noch ein paar Worte zur Pfl ege: Ein Daunenschlafsack bleibt Ihnen

am längsten erhalten, wenn Sie ihn beim Einpacken nicht rollen,

sondern stopfen – mit geöffnetem Reißverschluss, damit die Luft

entweichen kann. Der kleine Packsack ist für den Einsatz unter-

wegs gedacht. Zuhause sollten sie der Daune zur Entspannung

den weiter geschnittenen Stausack gönnen. Und vorher gut lüften.

Wenn Sie selbst reinigen wollen, dann auf keinen Fall chemisch

– das würde dem Keratin in der Daune das Fett entziehen und

das Textilgewebe womöglich schädigen. Benutzen Sie biologisch

abbaubare Daunenwaschmittel wie etwa Yeti-Clean-Down-Soap.

Zum Trocknen hängen Sie das Stück in den Wind oder vertrauen

es einem großvolumigen Trockner an. Geringe Verschmutzungen

nehmen Sie besser mit Schwamm und Lappen eigenhändig in

Angriff.

Beschreibt das " Mischungsverhältnis von Daunen und Federn in Gewichts-prozent sowie die " Bauschkraft der Daunen. In unserem Beispiel würde eine 100 Gramm Füllung 90 Gramm Daunen und zehn Gramm Federn beinhalten. 800+ inch3 heißt, dass unter einem Normgewicht eine festgelegte Gramm-zahl von Daunen ein Volumen von 800 Kubikzoll bewahren.

7 hole Hollow Fiber

Polyester-Füllung. Besteht aus Hohlfasern mit sieben Kanälen, die Luft speichern und Feuchtigkeit vom Körper weg transportieren. Wasserabweisend und schnelltrocknend. Isoliert den „Junior“-Schlafsack.

AquaPro Plus

Ripstop-Gewebe aus Nylon mit einer Membran. Wasserdicht und atmungsak-tiv. Schützt die Daune vor Feuchtigkeit, etwa beim „Powerizer“-Schlafsack.

Aqua-Skin

100 Prozent wasserdichte und wind-abweisende, aber atumungsaktive Laminate. Die Nahtstellen, normalerwei-se „Wasserbrücken“ wegen der Einstiche, sind verklebt – „getapt“.

Bauschkraft

Auch Loft oder Fillpower genannt. Wird ermöglicht durch die natürliche Elasti-zität des Keratins, der Hornsubstanz, aus der Daunen bestehen. Gemessen wird sie, indem man 30 Gramm Daunen in einen Glaszylinder gibt und mit einem Normgewicht belastet. Das Volumen, das die Daunen unter diesem Gewicht beibehalten, bezeichnet die Bauschkraft in Kubikzoll (inch3). Je mehr davon, desto besser die Isolierung. 900+ wie bei den " Companyon-Produkten bilden derzeit die unübertroffen höchste Qualität.

Climashield

Isolierendes Mikrofasergewebe: äußerst weich, dehnbar und leicht. Innen hohle, Makkaronie-artige Fasern. Saugen Feuchtigkeit nicht auf, sondern transportieren sie sofort nach außen. Schnelltrocknend und wasserabweisend. Dient als synthetisches Füllmaterial in „Elements“-Schlafsäcken.

Companyon

Serie von Schlafsäcken und Oberbeklei-dung, bei der Yeti die außergewöhnlich edle und reißfeste Nylonfaser " Lighty-Gram mit der besten Daunenqualität der " Crystal Down kombiniert hat. Dazu gehören z.B. die „Passion“-Schlafsäcke, die „Solace“-Weste und die Damenjacke „Desire“.

Crystal Down

Füllung mit mindestens 90 Prozent Dau-nen der Klasse I (nach DIN EN 12934), gewonnen von ausgewachsenen Gänsen auf europäischen Höfen im Totrupfver-fahren. Die Ästchen sind von Kern zum Ende rund zwei Zentimeter lang, schlie-ßen darum große isolierende Luftpolster ein. Regelmäßige Kontrollen in Laboren des weltweit anerkannten International Down and Feather Laboratory.

Dry-Skin

Produkte dieser Gruppe transportieren äußerst rasch Feuchtigkeit vom Körper nach außen. Sie sind schnelltrocknend, leicht, klein verpackbar und schützen die Haut vor UV-Strahlung mit Faktor 30+ und höher. Besonders geeignet in tropischen und subtropischen Zonen.

Gretchenfrage: Synthetik oder Daune?

Sorgt häufig für rauchende Köpfe beim Kauf. Wichtig sind vier Faktoren: Isolie-rung, Gewicht, Komprimierbarkeit und Trockenheit. Bei den ersten dreien sind " Crystal Down unschlagbar: Kein Ma-terial auf diesem Planeten wärmt besser und ist zugleich so sagenhaft leicht und auf ein kleines Maß zusammenpackbar wie dieses Naturprodukt. Daunen sorgen für ein angenehmes Schlafklima und transportieren Körperfeuchtigkeit nach außen. Allerdings nicht ganz so schnell wie Synthetik: Polyster-Füllungen trock-nen schneller. Wer davon ausgeht, dass sein Schlafsack häufig nass wird und keine Zeit hat, ihn trocknen zu lassen, ist mit einem „Elements“ gut bedient.

LightyGram

Ripstop-Gewebe aus einem Nylonfaden, der zehn Mal feiner ist als ein menschli-ches Haar. Sehr weich und dicht, darum wasserabweisend und atmungsaktiv, zugleich reißfest. Aus einem Faden, der von Berlin bis Görlitz reicht, kann man einen Quadratmeter LightyGram weben; er würde 25 Gramm wiegen (siehe auch S. 10). Wird in der " Companyon-Serie und der „Yamazaki-Collection“ verwendet.

Loft Siehe " Bauschkraft.

MicroCell

Mikroskopisch feines, kalandriertes Ripstop-Gewebe aus Polyester; wind- und wasserabweisend und atmungs-aktiv. Zu finden beispielsweise beim „Powerizer“-Schlafsack.

Mischungsverhältnis Daune-Feder

Entscheidet über die Isolierung und das Gewicht der Füllung. Je höher der Dau-nenanteil, desto leichter und wärmer. Ein hundertprozentiger Daunenanteil ist praktisch nicht möglich. Zuweilen wird behauptet, ein Feder-Restanteil unterstütze die " Bauschkraft, doch das ist eine Notlüge. Man kann Daunen und Federn in Luftstromkanälen solange voneinander trennen, bis nur noch win-zige Federchen übrig bleiben; und auch dieser Rest ließe sich noch auslesen. Allerdings nur per Hand, was äußerst teuer wäre und im Verhältnis zum Quali-tätsgewinn nicht angemessen.

Move-Skin

Extrem dehnbares Material. Hoher Feuchtigkeitstransport, schnelltrocknend und geruchshemmend durch Cocona-Kokosnussfasern. Der UV-Schutz 50+ entspricht australischem Standard.

SoftCell

Weiches Nylongewebe, transportiert Körperfeuchtigkeit zügig nach außen. Schnelltrocknend, atmungsaktiv. Wird als Innenbezug zum Beispiel bei „Sunrizer“- und „Fusion“-Schlafsäcken verwendet.

Soft-Skin

Anschmiegsames, elastisches, windabweisendes Material. Wärmt her-vorragend, wird vor allem bei Softshells verwendet.

SupCell

Yeti Ethical Code

Eingeführt als Initiative gegen tierquä-lerische Gänsehaltung. Das Kodierungs-system macht Herkunft, Aufzucht und Veredelung der Daune transparent. So bezeichnet 800RP1PWKG955: Daune mit 900 inch3, also der höchstmöglichen Bauschkraft aus der Region Poznan, Agrarbetrieb 1, von einer Polnischen Weißen Koludzka Gans, Füllung zu 95 Prozent Daune, fünf Prozent Federn.

Yeti Protection Skins

Yeti wählt jährlich die besten und innovativsten Stoffe von Textilher-stellern weltweit für die Verarbeitung seiner Produkte. Entscheidend sind Tragekomfort und technische Eigen-schaften für die erste, zweite und dritte Bekleidungsschicht. Die Protection Skins sind unterteilt in " Aqua-Skin, " Move-Skin, " Soft-Skin, " Trec-Skin und " Dry-Skin.

Describes the mixing ratio of down and feathers in weight per cent as well as the bulking power of the down. For example, a filling of 100 grams would contain 90 grams of down and ten grams of feathers. 800+ cubic inches means that the down maintains a volu-me of 800 cubic inches when a standard weight is applied.

7 hole Hollow Fiber

Polyester filling. Consists of hollow fibers with seven channels that store air and transport moisture away from the body. Water-resistant and fast-drying. Insulates the „Junior“ sleeping bag.

AquaPro Plus

Ripstop nylon textile with a membrane. Water-proof and breathable. Protects the down from moisture, as used in the „Powerizer“ sleeping bag.

Aqua-Skin

100 per cent water-proof and wind-resistant, but breathable. The seams are taped to cover the stitching.

Bulking power

Also called loft or fillpower. Enabled by the natural elasticity of the keratin, the horn substance which down consist of. It is measured by putting an ounce (= 28 grams) of down in a standardised flask and loading it with a standard weight. The volume that the down retains under this weight is the bulking power in cubic inches (inch3). The more the bulking power, the better the insulation. 900+ products, such as those from the „Companyon” series, provide the highest, most unsurpassed quality. See also page 9 and 30.

Climashield

Insulating micro-fiber fabric: extremely soft, elastic and light. Filled with hollow, macaroni-like fibers. Material does not absorb moisture but lets it escape immediately. Fast-drying and water-resistant. Serves as a synthetic filling material in „Elements“ sleeping bags.

Companyon

Line of sleeping bags and outer garments in which Yeti combined the extraordinary precious and tear-proof nylon fiber " LightyGram with the best down quality of the " Crystal Down. Used for „Passion“ sleeping bags, the „Solace“ waistcoat and the ladies jacket „Desire.“

Crystal Down

Filling with at least 90 down of class 1 (according to DIN EN 12934), plucked from adult geese on European farms after their death. These fine filaments are about two centimeters long from the center to the end and produce large, in-sulating air cushions. Inspected regularly at laboratories under the supervision of the International Down and Feather Laboratory.

Dry-Skin

Products of this group transport mois-ture from the body to the outside within shortest time. They are fast-drying, light, can be folded into a small size and pro-tect the skin against UV-radiation with an SPF factor 30 and higher. Particularly suitable in tropical and subtropical regions.

Big question: Synthetics or down?

This question often causes confusion among buyers. Four factors are impor-tant: insulation, weight, compressibility and dryness. With regard to the first three, „Crystal Down” are unbeatable: no material on this planet warms better and at the same time is incredibly light and compactable as this natural product. Down provides for a comfor-table sleeping climate and transports moisture to the outside. Down do not, however, dry as quickly as synthetic fillings do. Whoever expects his sleeping bag to come into contact with water on a regular basis is better off with the „Elements“ series.

LightyGram

Ripstop nylon thread, ten times thinner than a human hair. Very soft and dense, water resistant and breathable as well as tearproof. A thread the length of the distance from Berlin to Görlitz would be sufficient to weave one square meter of LightyGram and would weigh only 25 grams. Used in the " Companyon line and „Yamazaki Collection.”

Loft see " Bulking power

MicroCell

Microscopically fine, calendered ripstop polyester textile; wind- and water-resistant and breathable. Used for the „Fusion & Powerizer“ sleeping bag.

Mixing ratio down-feather

Determines the insulation and filling weight. A higher down proportion is lighter and warmer. A hundred percent down proportion is practically impos-sible. Some people say that feathers support the " fill power, but this is not exactly true. It is possible to separate down and feathers from each other in air-flow channels until only fluffy down is left; it is even possible to remove each remaining tiny feather by hand. This would be extremely expensive and would not be worth the expense for the very slight improvement in quality.

Move-Skin

Extremely flexible material. Lets moisture escape, dries fast and prevents odors from forming, thanks to Cocona coconut fibers. The UV-protection 50+ complies with Australian standard.

SoftCell

Soft nylon fabric lets moisture escape quickly. Fast-drying, breathable. Used as lining fabric of „Sunrizer“ and „Fusion“ sleeping bags.

Soft-Skin

Supple, elastic, wind-resistant material. Warms excellently; used for softshells.

SupCell

Extremely soft, ultra-light and fast-drying ripstop nylon. Transports mois-ture to the outside. Used as the lining fabric for the sleeping bags „Elements“ and „V.I.B.“.

Trec-Skin

Tear-resistant, easy-care, fast-drying, robust, light, can be folded into a small size. These textiles protect against UV-radiation with an SPF factor of 30 and higher.

UltraCell

Smooth and soft light-weight nylon material with the ultimate in breatha-bility. Often used as a lining fabric, for example, in the sleeping bags „Elements“ and „V.I.B.“

Yeti Ethical Code

Introduced as an initiative against inhu-mane goose keeping. The coding system makes origin, rearing and refinement of the down transparent. For example, 800RP1PWKG955 indicates a down with the highest possible bulking power of 900 inch3, originating from a Polish White Koludzka Goose from the Poznan region of Poland, with a filling of 95 percent down and five percent feathers.
