Teil W: Writing (Schreiben)

RC 2 Frankfurt Motor Show

Read the article about the Frankfurt Motor Show. Then complete each sentence (1 – 6) in 1 to 5 words or numbers. There is an example (0) at the beginning.

The Frankfurt Motor Show The Frankfurt Motor Show is one of the world’s largest exhibitions for the car industry showing passenger vehicles and motorcycles alike. It is held only in odd-numbered years like 2015 and it’s the place to be if you love cars. The show attracts visitors from all over the world. 40% of the exhibiting producers come from countries other than Germany. Exhibitors from 39 different countries present their new developments. In September 2015 the exhibition opened its doors again for ten days. The first two days were reserved for trade visitors, after that the show was open for the public. More than sixty new vehicles were launched, future designs were shown and it was of course an exhibition of the latest technology to push the car industry forward. Building cars that people don’t want to buy is not very profitable so it is extremely important for the industry to listen to the voices of the customers. One car manufacturer chose a very special way to launch a new sports car. Instead of informing the public about the advantages of the vehicle, stunt driver Terry Grant performed a 360-degree loop with the car on a specially built 19-metre-high track and set a new Guinness World Record. The crowd saw some breathtaking action from Terry, had a close up look at him and took some photos of his performance. The Frankfurt Motor show remains one of the most visited car exhibitions in the world and again hosted nearly one million people. It will open its doors again in September 2017. RC Reading Comprehension

RC 3 Japan town beats snowman record

Read the article about a world record for building snowmen. Then answer the questions (1 – 7) below in about 1 to 5 words or numbers. There is an example (0) at the beginning.

Japan town beats snowman record

Residents of a Japanese town have broken the world speed record for building

snowmen. Citizens at the Iiyama Snow Festival in Nagano made 1,585 of the

snowy fellows in one hour to set the new mark. Around 630 people took part in

the record attempt. The previous record was 1,279 snowmen, set in Utah, USA in

2011. The event in Iiyama Town was for the opening of a new train station for

Japan's famous bullet train. Justin Patterson from the official Guinness World

Records Organisation said the event has been a wonderful occasion. He said:

"Despite Iiyama being buried in snow, it is wonderful that the residents came out

to tackle the challenge together in a positive light."

There were strict rules to be met for the record to be broken. One was that each

snowman had to have a height of a least 80 cm. In addition the snowmen had to

be built of three separate snowballs, with eyes, a nose and arms. People used

only their hands in the record-breaking contest. Committee member Jiro

Kobayashi told Japan's Asahi Shimbun newspaper that the event was fitting for

the opening of the bullet train station. He said: "We were able to achieve the

record thanks to the cooperation of many people."
