The region between the boutique cities of Schaff-hausen and St.Gallen in the heart of Eastern Switzerland has a wide variety of tourist attrac-tions. Discover the diversity of the region from Lake Bodensee and the 4 countries corner to the gently rolling pre-Alpine landscape with Mount Säntis.

In many ways, St.Gallen, the small metropolis of Eastern Switzerland, is like a big cosmopolitan city. And this title suits it well. It owes this repu-tation not just to the monastery complex, which is a World Cultural Heritage Site, but also to the success of its textile industry.

Rorschach at Lake Bodensee is a vibrant and bustling little lakeside town with pretty town houses and the Forum Würth with its unique art collection.

The beautiful countryside with the Rhine and Rhine Falls, the unique historical charm of the medieval towns of Schaffhausen and Stein am Rhein, the fresh, fruity wines of Schaffhausen’s Blauburgunderland and so much more – Schaffhauserland is a small paradise that offers surprisingly unique experiences.

St.Gallen and Schaffhausen can easily bereached within one hour from Zurich Airport orwithin three hours from Munich Airport.

On the first floor the visitor to Labhart Chronometrie enters into the world of Breitling watches, the new unique «Breitling Floor».

For 2015 and 2016 the tourist board, Switzerland Tourism, has decla red «Touring» the main topic of the year. There are plenty of touring possibilities – by car, bus, train or ferry – in Eastern Switzerland. We have compiled the best for you.

TOURING – DISCOVER THE REGION ON YOUR OWN

ADVENTURE ROUND TRIP – JOKE HIKING TRAILThe adventure tour includes two mountain railways, a post bus and boat. The traditional mountain rack railway takes you in half an hour from the harbour of Rorschach to the Biedermeier village of Heiden. Continue by post bus or along the joke trail via Wolf halden to Walzenhausen. Then the romantic cable car takes you from Walzenhausen through the Hex-enkirchli gorge down to Rheineck. From there continue by boat back to Rorschach harbour, the starting point, via a fascinating ride through the «Alter Rhein» nature reserve.

Around 80 joke boards (in German) invite you to relax and smile. Have a pleasant walk along the joke trail (about 2 ½ to 3 hours, approx. 8 km) from Heiden until after Walzenhausen. You can end your hike in Wolfhalden or Hueb and take the post bus for the rest of the way.www.witzweg.ch

RING TRAIN S4 With the introduction of the urban railway, S-Bahn St.Gallen, we have the first circular line in Switzerland. It goes around Mount Säntis and connects Sargans, Uznach, Wattwil and St.Gallen.

In around three hours, travel through Eastern Switzerland with the S4 and discover the beauti-ful landscapes. Travel from St.Gallen to the hilly Toggenburg, and through the ‘dead straight’ Ricken tunnel to Uznach. After a hairpin bend continue further along the lake called Walensee – with the Churfirsten mountains on one side and Pizol on the other – to Sargans, from where the S4 then makes its way back through the plains of the Rhine Valley to St.Gallen. At the end, you even get a glimpse of Lake Bodensee. You can also make the whole trip in reverse order.www.sob.ch

UNESCO TOURThree World Cultural Heritage Sites. By car, drive from Schaffhausen along Lake Bodensee in the direction of ‘Lindau/Meersburg’. After a few kilometres, you will reach Unteruhldingen.

In June 2011, UNESCO recognised a total of 111 pile dwelling sites in six Alpine countries as a cross-border World Cultural Heritage Site, under the name of «Prehistoric pile dwellings around the Alps». One of them is located in Unteruhldingen.

After a short drive, you will arrive in Meersburg. Magnificent castle facilities, small, idyllic alleyways and beautiful settings, right by Lake Bodensee, await you.

From Meersburg, take the ferry to Konstanz and drive to Reichenau Island. Vines and lettuce fields alternate here with precious, ancient churches. The venerable monastery has be-longed to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage since 2000.

Continue on to St.Gallen. Here, the tour ends in the Abbey Precincts, which were listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1983. The unique architectural ensemble of the abbey, including the monastery church, abbey library and archives, is typical of the Baroque period.

LAKE BODENSEE TOUR The Lake Bodensee tour starts in St.Gallen. The trip takes you – as its name suggests – from St.Gallen on Lake Bodensee along the Austrian border and on to Bregenz.

From St.Gallen, drive to Bregenz. After a stroll in the Old Town and along the lake promenade in Bregenz, the tour continues on to Germany. In just 15 minutes you will reach Lindau. Lindau’s Old Town is situated on the approxi-mately 70-hectare Lindau Island. Centuries-old buildings, historic squares and romantic alley-ways conjure up an almost Mediterranean flair.

Continue, and after half an hour you will reach the town of Friedrichshafen. Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin is inseparably connected with the history of Friedrichshafen – as, long ago, he built his airships here. A visit to the Zeppelin Museum is a must. After half an hour by ferry across Lake Bodensee you will reach Romanshorn.

Following your stay in Romanshorn, it’s back to St.Gallen. Enjoy the evening there and discover the culinary variety in a traditional first-floor restaurant.

Trade be-tween the towns increased markedly during the Council of 1414 – 1418. Constance cloth manufacturers had cloth made at a better price in St.Gallen and the local industry supplied the booming Constance.

Portuguese Chronograph Classic.

Ref. 3904: The fact that Portugal’s greatest

seafarers are remembered to this day is

due not least to this watch: the appliquéd

Arabic numerals and the railway track chap-

ter ring elegantly reference its legendary

forerunner from the 1930s. But today’s sea-

going pioneers are equally well equipped

with the Chronograph Classic. The IWC-

manufactured automatic 89361-cal ibre

movement and its 68-hour power reserve

keep it firmly on course even under wind-

less conditions. Whether you’re aboard a

classic design soon make it clear who’s giv-

ing the orders. IWC. ENGINEERED FOR MEN.
