Your DS coaxials were specially designed for “Livin’ Loud” out in the harsh automotiveenvironment. They are made of advanced materials and construction techniques tomaintain optimal performance for years to come.

Application

The Kicker DS coaxial speakers are specifically designed for mounting in free-airapplications. The speakers do not require a sealed enclosure for optimum performance. It isimportant to isolate the sound coming off the front of the driver from the sound radiatingfrom the back of the driver. This isolation is usually accomplished by using the driver in afactory speaker location, or in a location with a semi-isolated rear chamber. See Figure 1.

Location

The sound produced by the DS coaxials is directional. Find the best location forstereophonic sound. If necessary, add more DS coaxial speakers to the system to helpdistribute and balance the sound. After determining the best mounting locations, carefullycheck the areas where the mounting hardware will be placed. See Figure 2.

Mounting

If you are replacing factory speakers in their original locations, you may have to enlarge thespeaker cut-outs and pre-drill new screw holes using a 7/64” (2.5mm) bit. Custom mountinglocations will require more preparation and work. In either case, make sure the speaker willnot interfere with the trunk and door opening and closing mechanisms, and the enclosedscrews will not puncture the fuel tank, wiring, or interfere with any other mechanical parts onthe underside of the mounting surface. Cycle the windows all the way down and up.

If the speaker cut-out locations require you to cut metal, avoid structural metal and braces.If the door body and panel cannot support the weight of the speaker, an optional reinforcingpanel (thin piece of wood or Medium Density Fiberboard) may be sandwiched between thepanels. Mount the speaker to the vehicle as outlined in Figure 2.

If factory speaker wiring is not available in your desired location, it may be necessary to runthe supplied wire through the door jamb. The speaker wire should be kept away from sharpedges and avoid the possibility of getting pinched by the door. An existing grommet in thedoor jamb is the ideal place to run the speaker wire. If the factory hole and grommet do notexist or are inaccessible, you must drill a holeto run the speaker wire through the door jam.Be careful not to drill into other wiring orexiting door mechanisms. Any time a wire isrun through a hole, it is necessary to insert arubber or plastic grommet to protect the wirefrom damage as outlined in Figure 3.

If the supplied hardware is not applicable toyour installation, some other means ofsecurely attaching the speakers to the vehiclemust be used.

Wiring to a single channel

Hooking up the supplied wires to your Kicker DS-Series Coax Speakers is easy. The end ofeach wire is terminated with a large and a small connector. The larger connector is crimpedto the gray wire and connects to the larger positive terminal of the speaker. The smallerconnector is crimped to the black wire and connects to the smaller negative terminal of thespeaker. The other end of these wires connects to your source unit or amplifier with the four(4) included red butt crimp-down style connectors. The gray wire connects to the positiveoutput of the amplifier or source unit. The black wire connects to the negative output of theamplifier or source unit. These connections can also be made with solder and heat shrink orelectrical tape to prevent electrical shorting of the speakers. See Figure 4.

Wiring two DS-Series Coax Speakers to a single channel

Modern high performance coaxial speakers have a lower DC Resistance than what used tobe available. The Kicker DS-Series Coax Speakers are rated at four ohms and work withany source unit or amplifier designed to operate at a four ohm load. If you want to use twoDS-Series Coax Speakers on each channel of your source unit or amplifier wire thespeakers in series, as shown above. This will improve the sound quality, lower the totalharmonic distortion and lessen the thermal load at the source unit or amplifier. This mayprevent an amplifier from shutting down, due to over-current protection circuitry.

Aplicación

Sus altavoces de la serie DS de KICKER han sido diseñados específicamente paramontarlos en aplicaciones al aire libre. A pesar de que los altavoces no necesitan una cajasellada para un rendimiento óptimo, es importante separar el sonido radiado por delantedel sonido radiado por detrás del excitador. Montaje

Si usted reemplaza los altavoces en las ubicaciones originales, usted puede tener queampliar el altavoz que monta hoyos y taladra nuevos hoyos del tornillo que utilizan un 7/64”(2.5mm) el pedacito. Si desea montar los altavoces Coax de la serie KS de Kicker enlugares especiales en la puerta, evite interferir con los mecanismos de bloqueo de la puertay de la ventana. El primer paso es encontrar un lugar del panel de la puerta que acepte eltamaño del altavoz escogido. Luego quite el panel de la puerta y vea si hay obstrucción delfuncionamiento de la ventana; suba y baje completamente el vidrio. Si hay que cortar metalpara montar los altavoces, evite cortar los refuerzos o el metal estructural. Puede sernecesario agregar un panel de refuerzo opcional (pedazo delgado de madera o Plancha deFibra de Densidad Media {Medium Density Fiberboard, MDF}) si el panel de la puerta nosoporta el peso del altavoz. Monte el altavoz en el panel y el cuerpo de la puerta como seindica en la Figura 2.

Si no dispone de cableado de fábrica para altavoces de puerta, será necesario encaminar elcable que se suministra a través del marco de la puerta. Este cable debe mantenersealejado de los bordes afilados de la puerta, para que no se pueda apretar por accidente. Laarandela de goma que pueda haber en elmarco de la puerta es el lugar ideal parahacer pasar los cables. Si no hay tal arandelade goma, o la que hay no es accesible, debetaladrar agujeros para hacer pasar los cables.Tenga cuidado de no taladrar otros cables omecanismos. Cuando haga pasar un cable através de un agujero en el metal, esnecesario insertar una arandela de plástico ode goma para proteger el cable, como semuestra en la Figura 3.

Si el hardware suministrado no es aplicable asu instalación, algunos otros medios deconectar seguramente a los oradores a lanave se debe utilizar.

Cableado

Es fácil conectar los cables suministrados a los Altavoces Coax de la serie DS de Kicker. Elextremo de cada cable termina en un conector grande y un conector pequeño. El conectorgrande está engarzado en el cable gris y se conecta a la terminal positiva más grande delaltavoz. El conector más pequeño está engarzado en el cable negro y se conecta a laterminal negativa más pequeña del altavoz. El otro extremo de estos cables se conecta a suunidad fuente o amplificador con los cuatro conectores rojos incluidos. El cable gris seconecta a la salida positiva del amplificador o unidad fuente. El cable negro se conecta a lasalida negativa del amplificador o unidad fuente. Cableado de dos altavoces Coax de la serie DS a un solo canal

Einbau

Das Kicker Koax-System der DS-Serie ist speziell für den Einbau in nicht geschlossenenGehäusen gedacht. Die Lautsprecher benötigen für optimale Leistung kein geschlossenesGehäuse. Es ist wichtig, den vorne aus dem Lautsprecher austretenden Schall vom Schallzu trennen, der von der Rückseite des Lautsprechers kommt. Diese Trennung wird meistdurch die Verwendung der korrekten Treibergröße und Einbau an einer isolierten hinterenStelle erreicht. Siehe Abbildung 1.

Position

Die Position und Ausrichtung Ihres DS Koax-Systems beeinflusst die Qualität und Quantitätder Wiedergabe. Finden Sie den besten Ort für stereofonischen Klang. Installieren von mehrLautsprechern zum Auto verteilt und gleicht die Räumlichkeit aus. Nachdem Sie die besteEinbauposition gewählt haben, prüfen Sie sorgfältig die Stellen, an denenMontagehalterungen angebracht werden sollen. Siehe Abbildung 2.

Installation

Der ersteSchritt besteht darin, eine Stelle in der Türverkleidung zu finden, in die der gewählteLautsprecher hineinpasst. Entfernen Sie dann die Türverkleidung und testen Sie, wie weitdas Fenster nach oben und unten geht. Falls Metall geschnitten werden muss, sollten Sietragendes Metall und Verstrebungen vermeiden. Wenn das Gewicht der Lautsprecher für dieTürverkleidung zu hoch ist, kann es nötig sein, eine optionale Verstärkungsplatte (dünneHolz- oder Faserplatte) einzubauen. Montieren Sie den Lautsprecher wie in Abbildung 2gezeigt an der Türverkleidung und am Türkörper.

Wenn keine werksseitigen Kabel für den Anschluss der Lautsprecher verfügbar sind,müssen Sie das mitgelieferte Kabel durch den Türpfosten verlegen. Dabei ist darauf zuachten, dass das Lautsprecherkabel von scharfen Kanten ferngehalten und nicht von derTür eingeklemmt wird. Eine im Türpfosten vorhandene Schutztülle wäre für die Verlegungdes Lautsprecherkabels ideal. Wennwerkseitig kein Loch bzw. keine Schutztüllevorhanden sind, müssen Sie ein Loch bohren,um das Lautsprecherkabel durch denTürpfosten zu verlegen. Dabei ist darauf zuachten, dass Sie nicht andere Kabel oderTürmechanismen anbohren. Wenn Sie einKabel durch ein Loch verlegen, müssen Siezum Schutz des Kabels eine Schutztülle ausGummi oder Plastik einführen. SieheAbbildung 3.

Wenn die beiliegenden Befestigungselementenicht für Ihre Installation passen, muss eineandere Methode zur sicheren Befestigungdes Systems am Fahrzeug verwendetwerden.

Verkabelung

Der Anschluss der beiliegenden Kabel an die Koax-Lautsprecher der Kicker DS-Serie isteinfach. Am Ende jedes Kabels befinden sich ein großer und ein kleiner Anschluss. Dergrößere Anschluss ist mit dem grauen Draht verbunden und wird am größeren, positivenLautsprecherterminal angeschlossen. Der kleinere Anschluss ist mit dem schwarzen Drahtverbunden und wird am kleineren, negativen Lautsprecherterminal angeschlossen. Dasandere Ende dieser Drähte wird in entsprechender Weise an das Autoradio oder denVerstärker angeschlossen. Der graue Draht wird am positiven Ausgang des Verstärkers oderAutoradios angeschlossen. Der schwarze Draht wird am negativen Ausgang des Verstärkersoder Autoradios angeschlossen. Diese Anschlüsse können mit den roten beiliegendenQuetschverbindungen oder mit Lötzinn und Schrumpfschlauch oder Isolierbanddurchgeführt werden, um ein Kurzschließen der Lautsprecher zu verhindern. Zwei DS Koax-Systems an einen einzelenen Kanal

Moderne Koaxial-Hochleistungslautsprecher verfügen über einen niedrigerenGleichstromwiderstand, als dies früher der Fall war. Die Koax-Lautsprecher der Kicker DS-Serie haben eine Impedanz von 4 Ohm und sind mit jedem auf 4 Ohm ausgelegtenAutoradio oder Verstärker kompatibel. Wenn Sie zwei Koax-Lautsprecher der DS-Serie anjeden Kanal Ihres Autoradios oder Verstärkers anschließen wollen, müssen Sie diese, wieoben gezeigt, in Reihe anschließen. Dies verbessert die Klangqualität, verringert denKlirrfaktor und reduziert die thermale Belastung des Autoradios oder Verstärkers. Dies kanneinen Verstärker von Abschalten, auf Grund Schutzstromkreises verhindern.

Vos haut-parleurs de DS coaxiaux ont été conçus pour l'environnement automoteur dur.L'haut-parleur utilise des matériels avancés et les techniques de construction pourmaintenir l'exécution optimale pendant des années pour venir.

Application

Ces haut-parleurs coaxiaux Kicker DS ont été spécialement conçus pour un montage sansenceinte. Leur fonctionnement optimal ne nécessite pas d'enceinte close, mais il estimportant d'isoler le son sortant par l'avant du haut-parleur et le son diffusé à l'arrière duhaut-parleur. En général, cette isolation est obtenue en installant dans un emplacementstandard un haut-parleur de taille adéquate, ou dans un emplacement avec un demi-isolé lachambre postérieure. Voyez le diagramme 1.

Emplacement

Le son produit par l'haut-parleur coaxiaux de DS est directionnel. Trouver le meilleuremplacement pour le son stéréophonique. Si nécessaire, ajouter les haut-parleurs coaxiauxde DS au système pour aider distribuent et équilibrent la son-étape. Après avoir déterminéles emplacements le mieux montants, soigneusement vérifier les secteurs où le matérielmontant sera placé. Voyez le diagramme 2.

Si vous remplacez les haut-parleurs d'usine dans leurs emplacements originaux, vouspouvez avoir à rendre plus grand le montant trous et entraînez les nouveaux trous de visutilisant un 7/64” (2.5mm) le morceau. Coutume monter les emplacements exigeront plus depréparation et le travail. Si vous souhaitez monter les haut-parleurs coaxiaux DS à desendroits de votre choix sur les portes, veillez à ne pas gêner le fonctionnement desmécanismes de vitres et de verrouillage des portes. Commencez par trouver sur la garniturede porte un emplacement compatible avec la taille du haut-parleur. Puis retirez la garniturede porte et vérifiez le bon fonctionnement de la vitre sur toute sa course. Si le montage deshaut-parleurs nécessite la découpe de parties métalliques, évitez la structure et les renfortsmétalliques. Un panneau de renforcement facultatif (morceau de bois mince ou panneau defibres de bois de densité moyenne) peut être nécessaire si le poids du haut-parleur estexcessif pour la garniture de porte. Montez le haut-parleur sur la garniture de porte et laporte conformément à le diagramme 2.

Si le véhicule ne comporte pas de précâblage d'installation audio, faites passer les fils dehaut-parleurs fournis par les montants de portes. Éloignez ces fils des arêtes vives et évitezqu'ils ne risquent d'être pincés par la porte.L'idéal est de faire passer les fils de haut-parleur par un passe-fils de montant de porteexistant. S'il n'y a pas de trou et passe-filsaccessibles, percez un trou de passage des filsde haut-parleur dans le montant de porte.Veillez à ne pas percer d'autres fils ou lesmécanismes de portes. Pour faire passer un filélectrique dans un trou, insérez un passe-fils encaoutchouc ou en plastique afin de protéger lefil, conformément à le diagramme 3.

Si le matériel fourni n'est pas applicable à votreinstallation, quelques autres moyensd'attachant assurément les haut-parleurs aubateau doivent être utilisés.

Câblage

Le raccordement des fils fournis avec les haut-parleurs Kicker KS est simple. L'extrémité dechaque fil est pourvue d'un grand connecteur et d'un petit. Le grand connecteur est sertisur le fil gris et se raccorde à la grande borne (positive) du haut-parleur. Le petit connecteurest serti sur le fil noir et se raccorde à la petite borne (négative) du haut-parleur. Les autresextrémités de ces fils se raccordent de la même façon à l'appareil source ou àl'amplificateur avec le quatre a inclus les connecteurs de style d'ondule-en bas rouges. Le filgris se raccorde à la sortie positive de l'amplificateur ou de l'appareil source. Le fil noir seraccorde à la sortie négative de l'amplificateur ou de l'appareil source. Ces raccordementspeuvent être effectués à l'aide de connecteurs à sertir ou par soudure en utilisant de lagaine thermo-rétractable et du ruban isolant pour éviter la mise en court-circuit des haut-parleurs. Raccordement de deux haut-parleurs à un chaîne seule

La résistance c.c. des haut-parleurs coaxiaux modernes à hautes performances estinférieure à ce qui existait auparavant. Les haut-parleurs coaxiaux Kicker DS ont unerésistance de 4 ohms et peuvent fonctionner sur tout appareil source ou amplificateur conçupour une charge de 4 ohms. Vous pouvez utiliser deux haut-parleurs coaxiaux DS surchaque canal de l'appareil source ou de l'amplificateur en les raccordant en série, commeindiqué ci-dessous. La qualité sonore est alors améliorée et la distorsion harmonique totaleainsi que la charge thermique vue par l'appareil source ou l'amplificateur sont réduites. Cecipeut empêcher un amplificateur de la panne, en raison des circuits de protection.

Kicker warrants this product to be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use for a period ofTHREE (3) MONTHS from date of original purchase with receipt. When purchased from an Authorized KICKER Dealerit is warranted for ONE (1) YEAR from date of original purchase with receipt. In all cases you must have the originalreceipt. Should service be necessary under this warranty for any reason due to manufacturing defect or malfunctionduring the warranty period, Kicker will repair or replace (at its discretion) the defective merchandise with equivalentmerchandise at no charge. Warranty replacements may have cosmetic scratches and blemishes. Discontinuedproducts may be replaced with more current equivalent products.

This warranty is valid only for the original purchaser and is not extended to owners of the product subsequent to theoriginal purchaser. Any applicable implied warranties are limited in duration to a period of the express warranty asprovided herein beginning with the date of the original purchase at retail, and no warranties, whether express orimplied, shall apply to this product thereafter. Some states do not allow limitations on implied warranties; thereforethese exclusions may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights; however you may have otherrights that vary from state to state.

If it becomes necessary for you to return defective merchandise directly to Stillwater Designs (Kicker), call the KickerCustomer Service Department at (405) 624-8510 for a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number. Package alldefective items in the original container or in a package that will prevent shipping damage, and return to:

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

Kicker strives to maintain a goal of 24-hour service for all acoustics (subwoofers, midrange and coaxial drivers,tweeters, crossovers, etc) returns. Delays may be incurred if lack of replacement inventory or parts is encountered.
