Introduction –A Chinese School with a Global PerspectiveThe Independent Schools Foundation Academy (The ISF Academy) is a non-profit, private, independent primary and secondary

school for children from Foundation Year through to Grade 12. The target enrolment for our 13-year program is 1,600 students.

Our state-of-the-art 21,412 sq. meter campus, located in the lush and verdant Telegraph Bay in Pokfulam, in the Island South District

of Hong Kong Island, has been carefully designed to reflect and reinforce our distinctive educational mission and approach to deliver

“Tomorrow’s School Today”.

The ISF Academy offers the highest caliber Putonghua-English immersion education in an inquiry-based learning environment and

is an International Baccalaureate (IB) world school authorized to offer the IB Middle Years Programme and IB Diploma Programme.

We are a Chinese school with a global perspective: our teaching approach is distinctly modern and progressive, and yet structured

around a curriculum strongly rooted in traditional Chinese cultures and values. Ours is a philosophy of problem solving within project

frameworks, encouraging active learning and teamwork. We are a school where true bilingualism and biculturalism is advocated

and ardently practiced. This pedagogic approach fosters the development of individuals who can think critically and communicate

effectively in both English and Putonghua; individuals whose outlooks are informed and enriched by Chinese culture, and who can

excel in the fast-paced and ever changing global environment.

弘立書院採用最優秀的普通話及英語沉浸式教學模式，並提供國際文憑中學項目及國際文憑大學預科項目。弘立是一所具備全球視野

I am pleased to report that The ISF Academy enjoyed a banner year for fundraising in the 2009/10 academic year. In total, we raised HK$119 million from a diversified array of sources including

corporate and individual gifts, gifts earmarked for specific learning programs or infrastructural installations, capital notes, annual fund gifts, financial aid and scholarships, as well as fundraising events.

The generosity of our donors represents the foundation of The ISF Academy’s mission and strength. This year, our donors continued to amaze us in their true spirit of giving and their belief in what the school brings to our community. In particular, I would like to thank the following for their extremely generous donation: Mr. & Mrs. Kevin Zhang, HK$3 million for the black box theatre; Mr. & Mrs. Kester Ng and Mrs. Kathryn Louey HK$1 million each for two classrooms; and Mr. & Mrs. Derrick Fung HK$2 million for two classrooms for the Phase IIB eight storey building.

This year, the third year of our Aspire Campaign, our main fundraising event was the X Jam, which raised a total of HK$2.9 million for the Aspire Campaign. X Jam was a celebration of sport and the spirit of sportsmanship, and emphasized the values that our school community cherishes: determination, perseverance, courage, passion and safety. It is fitting that this sporting event represented a centerpiece of the Aspire Campaign because a substantial portion of funds raised by the campaign will go directly toward the building of one of Hong Kong’s most advanced scholastic sports facilities. I would like to thank all of the people involved in the X Jam for their tireless efforts, including the X Jam organizing committee, the PTA, teachers and staff and our parent volunteers, all who worked hard for this amazing event.

Uses of funds from the Aspire Campaign, as well as all of our other fundraising programs, will be utilized in three critical areas: the school’s buildings & facilities (including the sports complex); academic programs (including student and professional development programs); and scholarships and financial aid. The first two areas support where, what and how we teach, while scholarships and financial aid provide the motivation for students to strive for excellence, and lifts the overall quality of our student population.

In the coming year, we plan to continue to seek new ways of raising funds for all of our programs, as well as offering events for the Aspire Campaign.

很高興在此向大家通報，2009/10年度是弘立書院籌款工作豐收的一年。我們

憑借不同的籌募途徑，包括：以機構或個人名義的捐獻、指定用於特定教育

項目或學習基建設施的捐獻、出售本金劵和年度捐獻、助學金及獎學金、以及各項

籌款活動等共籌得港幣一億一仟九百萬元。

弘立書院的使命和優勢得以貫徹與實施，有賴於資助者們的慷慨捐助。今年，資助

者一如以往地向我們展示了他們真誠的施予精神，並深信本校能為社群帶來裨益。

謹此特別鳴謝以下資助者，對興建八層教學樓的第二期B項工程的大力捐助，張奕

先生及夫人資助港幣300萬興建黑盒劇場； Kester Ng 先生及Kathryn Louey 女士

各資助港幣100萬元建設兩間教室；以及馮敬安先生夫人資助港幣200萬建設兩間

教室。

本年度是「雄心萬丈」籌款計劃的第三個年頭，X Jam是這一年的焦點籌款活動，

為「雄心萬丈」計劃籌得港幣290萬元。 X Jam 提倡運動及頌揚體育精神，並強

調弘立社群推崇的價值觀 ─ 果斷果敢、堅毅不撓、無畏無懼、熱情投入與安全至

上。X Jam 正與「雄心萬丈」計劃中「銳意創新」的理念相吻合，因為大部份籌得

的捐款會直接建設一所將會是全港其中最具有先進體育設施的學校。本人藉此感謝

為X Jam 出力的各界人士，包括X Jam 活動籌辦委員會、家長教師會、教職員及

一班勞苦功高的家長義工。

通過「雄心萬丈」計劃以及所有其他籌款活動募集的捐款會涉及到以下三個關鍵領

域：建設校園及設施(包括體育設施)；學術課程(包括學生及專業培訓項目)；及獎

學金與助學金。前兩個領域維持我們優良的學習環境、課程編排及教學模式，而獎

學金與助學金有助於鼓勵學生們在學術上追求卓越，並提升學生整體的素質。

我們計劃在新的一年繼續尋找新的途徑，為「雄心萬丈」計劃及其他籌款活動籌集

資金!

The Independent Schools Foundation Limited

The Independent Schools Foundation Limited was established in June 2005 to provide financial and advisory support to The

Independent Schools Foundation Academy (The ISF Academy). The Independent Schools Foundation Limited is a non-profit

educational establishment and has obtained Section 88 Inland Revenue Ordinance Exemption, which gives donors the ability to claim

tax relief in Hong Kong for donations made to The Independent Schools Foundation Limited. With effect from August 2008, there will

be two fundraising activities benefiting the Foundation; the Annual Fund and the Aspire Campaign.

The Annual Fund

The Annual Fund was created in 2007 for the specific purpose of raising funds to

support the annual operating budget of The ISF Academy.

The Aspire Campaign

The X Jam marked the second fundraising event for the Aspire Campaign and was

held on Saturday, November 21, 2009 on the school campus. The six-year project

spanning from 2008 to 2014 aims to raise HK$300 million to fund the advancement of

three crucial initiatives for the school.

- Advancing InnovationWorld-Class Education World-Class Facilities (HK$245 million)

Construct a new eight-storey, multi-use school wing, development of a Sports

and Performing Arts Complex, including a 25 meter indoor heated swimming

pools.

- Advancing ExcellenceStudent and Professional Development Endowment Fund (HK$40 million)

Support the continued excellence of our academic programs.

- Advancing OpportunityScholarships and Financial Aid Fund (HK$15 million)

Build a talented and diverse student body through the provision of scholarships

and financial assistance schemes to recognize excellence in academics and

special talents and to support students requiring financial assistance.

智立教育基金有限公司

「智立教育基金有限公司」 (以下簡稱為「智立教育基金」) 於2005年成立，為弘立書院提供財務及其他諮詢服務。「智立

教育基金」為認可的教育慈善機構。根據香港稅務局稅務條例第88條，所有捐贈「智立教育基金」的捐款均可在本港獲

得稅務扣減。從2008年8月開始，我們將以兩大籌款項目─年度基金及「雄心萬丈」籌款計劃，注資到「智立教育基金」。

年度基金

年度基金於2007年成立，目的是為弘立書院籌集年度營運資金。

「雄心萬丈」

於2009年11月21日(星期六)在本校舉行的「雄心萬丈」綜合籌款項目為第二次籌

款活動。此籌款項目計劃在2008至2014年這六年裡為以下三個關鍵舉措籌募港

幣三億元：

- 銳意創新

世界級的教育，世界級的設施(港幣2.45億元)

加建一座八層樓高的多用途教學大樓，擴充體育設施，興建一座體育及綜合

藝術表演大樓，包括一個游泳池。

- 精益求精

學生及專業培訓永久基金(港幣4千萬元)

持續發展本校卓越的學術課程。

- 創建新機

獎學金與助學金永久基金(港幣1千5百萬元)

通過提供獎學金與助學金打造一個多才多藝的學生群體，肯定他們在學術上及

才藝上的成就。同時為經濟上有需要的學生提供援助。

For the 2009/10 academic year, The Independent Schools Foundation Limited made grants to The ISF Academy to support various programs and activities of the school. These included scholarships and financial aid, subsidies for school activities, student

enrichment programs and funds for the overall enhancement and development of the school. Some of the more significant programs supported by the Foundation are as follows:

Phase II Plan for the advancement of The Academy was implemented:Phase IIA

A new two-storey addition on top of our existing Primary Block which can house ten new group teaching rooms was completed July 2010.

Phase IIB

The construction of a new eight-storey block that sits between the Primary and Secondary Blocks, which will include the following: • A 180 seat black box theatre;• A junior science laboratory;• An art room;• A ceramics laboratory;• A music practice room;• A multi-purpose room;• An indoor gymnasium;• A 500 seat Dining Hall;• An IB DP study center;• An IB DP common room;• 20 new classrooms; and• A roof playground.

Scholarships and Financial AidThe ISF Academy is committed to creating a diverse student population by providing scholarships and financial aid to all students who require financial assistance. At the end of the 2009/10 academic year, The ISF Academy provided financial aid to approximately 10% of our student body, with the amount of financial support provided ranging from 20% to 100%, depending on the financial needs of the recipient. Our goal is for 30% of our student body to benefit from financial assistance.

Grade 4 to 10 Educational Exchange Program In May and June of this year, Grade 4 to Grade 10 students participated in the Educational Exchange Program, visiting Macau, Taiwan, Xi’an, Ningbo/ Hangzhou, Huangshan, New York and Chiang Mai. These trips enabled students “to learn outside the classrooms” by experiencing a different culture, working in poverty-stricken communities and gaining a better understanding of the environment and society of the places they visited.

The Clifford C.F. Wong Distinguished Visiting Author’s Program This year saw the school continue in its planning of The Clifford C.F. Wong Distinguished Visiting Author Program. The main objective is to instill in students a passion for reading and a love of books. Two highly regarded authors were invited to visit the school to participate in the Love of Reading Week; Ms. Deborah Ellis from Canada and Ms. Lin You-Ru from Taiwan. They both gave presentations to the students, as well as parents and teachers. The authors demonstrated their creative writing process and their sources of inspiration.

Festive Book CampaignThe libraries at The ISF Academy boast a collection of more than 100,000 volumes, with more than 5,000 new titles acquired this year alone. Through the launch of the festive book campaign again this year, we raised HK$22,000 for the libraries.

• 一個藝術教室；

• 一個音樂練習室；

• 一個多用途教室；

• 一個小型室內體育館；

• 一個國際文憑課程休息室；

• 20個新教室；及

• 一個天台操場。

獎學金及助學金弘立書院設立了獎學金，又為在經濟上需要資助的學生提供了助學金，致力營造一個多元的學生群體。截至2009/10學年底，弘立書院為全校約百分之十的學生，按個別學生的經濟需要，提供了由百分之二十至百分之百不等的經濟資助。我們的目標是讓全校百分之三十的學生在經濟上受惠。

四至十年級文化交流活動四至十年級的學生分別在5月及6月到了澳門、台灣、西安、寧波/杭州、黃山，紐約及清邁等地進行文化交流。這些行程起到了「讀萬卷書不如行萬里路」、體驗不同的文化、參與服務貧困社區及對當地的環境及社會增廣見聞的作用。

黃振輝傑出作家訪問活動弘立書院在本年度再度舉辦了黃振輝傑出作家訪問活動，目的是增進學生對閱讀的興趣，讓他們養成愛讀書的習慣。

我們邀請了兩位著名作家，她們是分別來自加拿大的DeborahEllis女士及來自台灣的林佑儒女士，她們在閱讀週通過講座與學生、家長和教師們分享了她們的創作過程，以及如何培養寫作靈感。

節日書籍捐贈活動弘立書院的兩個圖書館現館藏超過10,000本，僅本年度館藏就增添了約5,000本新書。通過本年度再次舉辦的節日書籍捐贈活動，為圖書館籌得港幣共2萬2千元。

智立教育基金在2009/10學年資助弘立書院各個不同的項目和活動。當中包括獎學金與助學金、津貼學校活動、學生發展計劃及學校整體的發展和提升。下列是以基金資助的幾個主要項目：

X Jam Extravaganza

The X Jam was held on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the school campus. This was the second fundraiser for the Aspire Campaign, which was launched last year. During this six-year fundraiser, the Aspire Campaign aims to raise HK$300 million to

fund three crucial initiatives for the school.

One of the highlights of the X Jam was the “The ISF Academy’s Climbing Wall”. The climbing wall will be seven meters wide and nine meters high with 250 color grips. A 3-meter wall has been temporarily located in the Secondary Plaza until we unveil the full wall in the Junior Gymnasium of our new eight-storey Phase IIB building in the first semester of the 2011/12 Academic Year.

On the day over 2,000 people attended X Jam. Donors signed a wall to mark their donations to the Climbing Wall and also had the opportunity to climb a rock wall and ring a bell. A plaque to acknowledge our donors will be installed in a prominent location in the school. This will be a fantastic and enriching addition to our PE program and extra-curricular activities. Like our X Jam activities, it promotes passion, courage, determination, perseverance and safety.

The X Jam was also a major milestone in demonstrating school spirit and the boundless energy of our teachers, parents and, of course, our students, as they worked together to achieve a shared goal. It was an Xtraordinary success and raised HK$2.8 million.

2009年11月21日X Jam 在弘立書院順利舉行。這是自去年啟動「雄心萬丈」籌款計劃後的第二個籌款活動。為期六年的「雄心萬丈」計劃，其目標是為達成三個關鍵舉措籌募港幣3億元。

X Jam 的其中一個焦點項目是「弘立書院攀石牆」。攀石牆長7米，高9米，將鋪上250個彩色把手。目前一堵3米高的臨時攀石牆已暫置於中學廣場內，直至2011/12學年第一學期第二階段二期工程的八層大樓竣工後，再遷入並永久設置在大樓的體育館內。

X Jam 當日有超過2,000人蒞臨參加。捐款者在自己捐出的攀石牆上簽名留念，還可以挑戰自己攀上石牆敲響頂上的鐘。捐款人的名牌匾將放置在校園顯眼的位置。攀石牆將豐富體育課及課外活動，正如 X Jam 一樣，它提倡對運動的熱情投入、果斷果敢、堅毅不撓、無畏無懼及安全至上等核心價值。

X Jam 也是一個展現弘立精神的重要里程碑。為了達成所有人的共同目標，弘立的教師、家長和學生全身心地投入到這項活動中。這次共籌得港幣280萬元，絕對是一次同心協力的壯舉。

開立劃線支票送往弘立書院傳訊及社群部支票寄送到:香港薄扶林鋼綫灣道一號支票抬頭請寫上「智立教育基金有限公司」。

承諾捐款港幣250,000元及以上的承諾捐款可分5年每年平均分期支付。捐款者的姓名將榮登在弘立書院捐贈者榮譽名冊裡。

每月捐款計劃請聯絡弘立書院傳訊及社群部索取更詳細資料及自動轉賬方法。

以團體名義捐款我們歡迎志同道合的人士以團體名義捐獻，可選擇一次性捐贈或累積捐款計劃。

冠名捐贈計劃大額捐助者可成立命名基金或在弘立書院校園內指定的地方享有冠名權。

鳴謝所有捐贈港幣250,000元及以上之捐款人，其姓名將榮登在捐贈者榮譽名冊裡。港幣10,000元及以上的捐款將紀錄在年度籌款報告內。

Gifts of all sizes matter and show you care. Gifts at all levels make an impact on the lives of today’s students and faculty. Tax-deductible donations to The Independent Schools Foundation Limited can be made in any of the following ways:

Send a crossed check to the Communications and Community DepartmentThe ISF Academy, 1 Kong Sin Wan Road, Pokfulam, Hong KongPlease make check payable to “The Independent Schools Foundation Limited”.

Make a Pledged DonationDonations of HK$250,000 and above can be pledged and paid in equal annual installments over a period of up to five years and Donors will be recognized on the Donor Honor Roll at The ISF Academy.

Please contact the Communications and Community Department for more details and auto-pay instructions.

Group DonationsWe welcome classes or groups of like-minded individuals to make donations in the name of a group. These can be a one-off donation or a scheme of cumulative donations.

Naming OpportunitiesOpportunities are available for larger donors to establish named endowment funds or to be given naming rights for dedicated areas of The ISF Academy campus.

RecognitionAll donations of HK$250,000 and above will be acknowledged on the Donor Honor Roll and all donations of HK$10,000 and above will be recognized in our Annual Fundraising Report.
