    Basic science and clinical research abstract submissions were nearly equivalent last year, and as a resh w pa Asc b lal ah, h a Asc wll, h provide a special orum or the outstanding Health Services & Clinical Outcomes research perormsurgeons rom our country and abroad. In addition to the AAS and SUS Plenary Sessions, which will the best Basic Science and ranslational research abstracts, we will have a Hlh svc Orch Ply so. d. Joh Bkmy, Director o the MSCORE outcomes group and onepreeminent leaders in clinical outcomes research, will provide a keynote address on the Past, PresenFuture o Health Services Research. A panel on i Ocom rchwill discuss how to imsurgical care at the population level and includes speakers such as d. Clfo Ko, who is the Director

Tis necessitates a robust computational inrastructure to supposcale o data. Most datasets I spend my time analyzing comprise many million data points. As a conseq p h wh p, i b pa ab h p-ba I employ or my analyses as well the mechanisms that support writing grants and papers. I write this piwhat works or me.

    For local data storage (alongside my internal hard drives) I use a dobo (www.drobo.com) by Data RoT pv a aa- h lall la aa. i baall a p hathat redundantly stores your data on 4 to 8 independent hard drives, similar to what we know as a array (redundant array o independent disks). Te advantage o such systems is i a hard disk ailsandare the most allible piece o computer equipment we all ownyour data is redundantly distributed the remaining drives and can be recovered. Te consumer advantage that Drobos hold over classical devices is that you can heterogeneously slot in hard drives o diferent sizes and the proprietary algocan maximize redundancy rom these volumes.     My adventures began in Sydney, where Richard as principal host. Within hours o departing the ai(and without a nap or shower!), we were eeding kangvisiting koalas, and having dinner overlooking SHarbor. In Sydney, I had the opportunity to visit collin the Department o Endocrine Surgery at Royal Shore Hospital. I also helped to administer the RACS vva xa a Wa Hpal; h hpa aa b h al x xageneral surgeons in New South Wales. It involved a

    o clinical scenarios with actual patients. Finally,President Dan Albo and I visited the University o WSydney, one o the newest medical schools in Aus

    where we were kindly hosted by Peter Zelas and a centhusiastic medical students who presented challecases. One student will be coming to Yale or an end lv 2011.
