Victor Ricciardi Curriculum Vitae (January 2021) 6
FULL-TIME GOUCHER COLLEGE, TOWSON, MARYLAND
TEACHING Department of Business Management
EXPERIENCE Assistant Professor of Financial Management (Professor of Practice)
8/2010-6/2019
Course Portfolio: Taught courses at the undergraduate level: Personal financial planning, corporate finance
(financial management), global investments, behavioral finance, and the psychology of money.
Typical Teaching Load: The basic teaching load was six sections per academic year which included: two
sections of corporate finance (financial management), two sections of personal financial planning, one
section of global investments, and one section of behavioral finance.
Overview of class size for finance courses:
From 2011 to 2015, average class size was 16 to 22 students per section.
From 2016 to 2019, average class size was 20 to 25 students per section.
Unique Perspective: My experience in teaching finance was unique since I was the only finance professor on
staff during my tenure. Especially teaching at a business management program at a small liberal arts college
allowed for experimentation with different types of teaching approaches and presenting subject matter with
different methodologies.
Teaching Philosophy: Applied a wide range of standard and experimental teaching methods, including
lecture, discussion, seminar (workshop), application, demonstration or a combination of these approaches.
My choice of teaching methodology is tailored to the specific student category (e.g., lower-division
undergraduate finance course, upper-division undergraduate finance class).
Student Evaluations: A strong record of teaching performance based on the results of my student evaluations
for 18 semesters for a diverse collection of finance courses including personal financial planning, global
investments, behavioral finance, and financial management. My philosophy for teaching finance is to be very
thorough and rigorous but at the same time not to overwhelm students.
The Psychology of Money Course: Developed a new course on the behavioral aspects of money and financial
therapy for first year students (known as Frontiers) and taught this course twice in 2011 and 2012.
Personal Financial Planning Course: Developed a strong ability for teaching personal finance to non-
business and business students since this course was a free elective opened to all undergraduate students. In
addition, in the academic year 2011-2012, the business management program experienced substantial
enrollment increases for the personal financial planning and investments courses over the previous academic
year. Both courses experienced over a 400 percent enrollment increase from the last academic year (the
enrollment for the personal financial planning course increased from 5 students to 21 students and the
investments course increased from 5 students to 22 students).
Background in Accounting: Since the students have very limited accounting subject matter and knowledge.
My early career background as an accountant and undergraduate major in accounting helped me teach
accounting-related topics in various finance classes. For example, I was able to provide a solid presentation
of financial ratios, financial statements analysis, and financial forecasting in corporate finance/financial
management, a basic lecture on budgeting that is designed for business and non-business students in personal
financial planning, and the accounting aspects of trading on margin in global investments.
Behavioral Finance Subject Matter: In recent years, for three of my courses which include financial
management, personal financial planning, and global investments in order to enhance student learning and
increase interest within each course; supplemental topics in behavioral finance were covered. For example, in the
financial management course, I covered some research topics from behavioral corporate finance. In personal
finance planning, I covered the biases individuals suffer from during the retirement planning process. Lastly, in
the global investments course there was a discussion of why people underinvest in international stocks because
of familiarity bias.
Victor Ricciardi Curriculum Vitae (January 2021) 7
New Goucher College Curriculum: Redesigned 4 courses (financial management, personal financial planning,
behavioral finance, and global investments) from 3 to 4 credits since Goucher College switched most courses to
a 4-credit model. In addition, I have taught personal financial planning as a 2, 3 or 4 credit courses.
Advising Load: Provided advising to approximately 22 to 25 students on a yearly basis.
Study Abroad Advising: Additional advising experience since every student at Goucher College is expected
to complete a study abroad experience; either a 3-week intensive course or an entire semester.
Relationship Building with Students. A strong record and enjoyment of mentoring students especially about
careers in finance, applying to graduate school, and obtaining professional credentials in finance and accounting
especially CFP, CFA, and CPA.
Managing Student Internships: Served as an academic faculty mentor for students to complete the required
internship for business management minors and majors. (Managed an average of 8 to 10 students per
academic year.) Sample internship organizations were: Johns Hopkins Healthcare, American Dance Festival,
Maryland Transit Administration, Texas Department of Agriculture, Lazard, Hewlett Packard, Youth for
Christ (YFC), Salvation Army, World Relief, Financial Consulate, Picket Fence Tax Service, MassMutual,
Northwestern Mutual, Morgan Stanley, BoSoma Dance Company, Merrill Lynch, Gallant Financial
Planning, Synergy Financial Group, and Fiserv.
Strong Employment Outcomes for Business Students: Business management graduates obtained employment with
over 60 positions in finance for private, non-profit, or government sector organizations during my tenure. (This is
a significant accomplishment without a formal finance undergraduate program.) Sample companies include
Vanguard, Pinnacle Advisory Group, BlackRock, State Farm, T. Rowe Price, State Street, Goodman Advisory
Group, ADP, FINRA, Barclays Investment Bank, Wells Fargo Securities, Brown Advisory, Morgan Stanley,
Bank of America, Fidelity Investments, Prudential Insurance, Evensky & Katz, Colonial Life, Greenspring
Advisors, LongView Wealth Management, and Merrill Lynch.
Student Data Supporting Careers in Finance for Goucher Business Students. According to the Goucher College
Career Outcome Data that identified places students are employed after graduation (for the three years most
available) in finance and business management, included:
Class of 2016: 2% in finance, 5% in marketing, and 9% in business management.
Class of 2015: 4% in finance, 6% in marketing, and 12% in business management.
Class of 2014: 13% for finance and business management.
Media Appearances: Approximately 200 media appearances that included 150 online or in-print interviews or
quotes as well as over 45 podcast, radio, and television interviews. These various media appearances served to
market and advertise the business management program at Goucher College that helped with recruiting new
students. In addition, many of these media stories were used to enhance student learning in the classroom for all
of my finance courses.
SSRN Editor: Goucher College received international exposure because of my editorial role at the Social Science
Research Network (SSRN) for seven SSRN eJournals. The seven SSRN eJournals are distributed to thousands of
researchers across more than 75 countries; this provided Goucher academic prestige and recognition.
4 Major Accomplishments: During my tenure at Goucher College, I am especially proud of four major
accomplishments. In a five-year period, the completion of two co-edited books Investor Behavior and
Financial Behavior. In addition, the successful completion of two Graduate Certificates in Personal Family
Financial Planning and Financial Therapy from Kansas State University.
Professor of Practice Rank: My position was converted to the Professor of Practice rank in spring 2016 and
renewed in spring 2019. This allowed for a 3-year review process to be rehired for non-tenured faculty. From
2010 to 2016, my employment was based on one-year contracts.

knowledge of behavioral finance.
The CBDR internship is open to students interested in conducting

economics, charitable decision making, and risk perception. This is
a highly competitive program in which only a few undergraduate
students are accepted each academic year.
The student successfully completed the internship and graduated
with a Finance Specialization.

the Kentucky finance and investments industry. Contacted these individuals
twice per year about the current finance course offerings each semester that
resulted in improved School of Business enrollments.

books covered a wide range of student needs such as introductory, intermediate,
advanced, and MBA level resources. These additional resources purchased by the

research in the area of behavioral finance and investor decision making. Blending contributions from noted
academics and experienced practitioners, this 30-chapter book provides investment professionals with

emotions in investment decisions. Other topics covered include risk perception and tolerance, asset
allocation decisions under inertia and inattention bias; evidenced based financial planning, motivation and
