Chaperones for Field Trips

• Field Trips: 10/11/18 – Chattahoochee Nature Center3/14/19 - Civil War Presentation - Atlanta History Center

• We will need two chaperones per homeroom for each field trip.

• Sign-ups will handled via Sign-Up Genius. Please be on the lookout for an e-mail.

Celebrations

• There will be 2 class parties during the school year.

1st class party is the holiday party date to be determined

2nd class party is the end of the year party on Field Day

• Field Day Picnic: May 9, 2019 • Awards Day for grades 1-5: May 21, 2019

Birthdays

• Due to the large number of students with food allergies, for birthday celebrations, students are not allowed to bring in food.

• If students wish to celebrate their birthday with the class they may bring in a favorite book or poem to be read to their classmates. Parents are not allowed to bring in cupcakes or other food items for the class to share. Instead, treats such as books, pencils or other non-food items may be given instead. Parents may eat lunch with their student, but must not bring food to share with other students.

Other Important Information

• Lunchroom procedures: Lunchroom procedures: no outside food (fastfood,

chik-fil-a). If you would like to purchase a school lunch, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher to order a meal in the morning.

• Absences/ Tardies: We mark students tardy after 7:45 am. When your child

is absent please send a doctor’s note or an excused letter of absence.

• Nut Free Classroom: Zaman’s and Ms. Harris’s classes are nut free.

• Dress Code: Make sure shorts are long enough and dresses have shorts

under them. Tennis shoes/sneakers must be worn at all times.

Change of Dismissal

• Your child will go home according to their dismissal agreement.

• If your child needs to go differently, please send in a written note with your child in the morning.

• If it is an emergency, please call the front office at (678) 874-9002. They will contact us and let us know of the change.

• Please don’t send emails. They are not a reliable form of communication. Many times we don’t receive them until after the school day is over.

FAQ: What if my child is sick?Students cannot come to school with a temperature of over 100 degrees. The student must have a normal temp of 98.5 without medication for 24 hours before returning to school .

Medication cannot be sent to Vanderlyn or administered to students during the school day without a completed DeKalb County medication form that has been signed by the physician and the parent. This includes the prescription medication, cough drops , cough syrup and any common over the counter medication. The form is available on the Vanderlyn website under clinic, picked up at front office, or at the clinic . The medication cannot be sent to the school with the student or placed in the book bag. Parents must bring the medication to the school clinic.Thank you for keeping the Vanderlyn community healthy and safe!!
