STOP The INTAKE MANIFOLD MUST bethoroughly cleaned and free of debrisBEFORE BEING INSTALLED ON THISENGINE.

Q If the debris is metallic (aluminum or iron),then replacement of the intake manifold isrequired, as it is difficult to ensure all foreignmaterials have been removed. This is typicalwith a catastrophic engine failure.

Q If the debris in the intake is soft deposits(carbon buildup, sludge, oil), it is notnecessary to replace intake manifold. Intakemanifolds can be cleaned with hot soapywater, rinsed thoroughly with clean waterand blown dry with shop air.

NEVER reuse an oil cooler from the failedengine. A new oil cooler must be installed if not alreadyprovided on the replacement engine.

Engine lubrication system priming and purgingMUST be performed before starting any replacementengine, or on an engine that has had a major repair.Doing so helps to ensure the life of the engine, andprevents you from having to deal with a costly repeatengine replacement.

Q Verify the correct amount of oil is in theengine crankcase

Q Install an engine oil pressure gaugeQ Disable the fuel supply shutoff (inertia)

switch to prevent the vehicle from startingQ Crank the engine in 15-second increments,

allowing a 30-second cool-down pausebetween each cranking period

Q Continue this procedure until oil pressure isobserved on the pressure gauge, plus anadditional two minutes (short durations) toensure lubrication system is purged

Overheating can cause severe engine damage.For this reason, it is CRITICAL to ensure thecooling system is properly filled. Always referto section 303-03 of the vehicle workshopmanual for specific cooling system fill and bleedprocedures.

NEVER use impact tools to remove or install aknock sensor.Q Use of impact tools and overtightening the

knock sensor mounting fastener can destroythe sensor and cause engine failure

Index Mark Torque Converter

Before disassembling the torque converter from the flexplate or the pressure plate from the flywheel, index markthe torque converter position to the flex plate or thepressure plate position to the flywheel.

Clean and Inspect Transferred Components

Thoroughly clean and inspect all component parts beingtransferred from the failed engine to the replacementengine.

Use extreme care when cleaning sealing surfaces ofcomponent parts that will be transferred from the failedengine to the replacement engine.

TRANSMISSION COOLER SERVICE

Most F-Super Duty vehicles have radiator in-tank fluid coolers. This type of cooler will require flushing orreplacement. Always refer to the vehicle service publications.

TorqShift transmission cooling system flushing procedure is unique. Refer to the vehicle workshop manual beforeperforming this procedure.

Replacement procedures for Oil-To-Air (OTA) and Auxiliary coolers vary based on year and model of the vehicle.

Different types of OTA coolers are required for gasoline and diesel applications.

OTA Cooler with threaded cooler line connections

OTA Cooler with crossover tube and hose clamp connections

Note: Cooler application may change due to a mid-year production changeover. Always replace the OTA cooler witha cooler of the same size and cooler line connection type (threaded or hose clamp).

IDENTIFICATION OF THE RETURN TRANSMISSION COOLER LINE

The best way to identify the return cooler line (fluid coming out of the cooler and returning to the transmission)is the locate the return cooler fitting or case inlet. The return cooler fitting can be found in the following locationson the products listed below:

Rear Wheel Drive

TorqShift - The REAR transmission case fitting receives the return line.

4R100/E4OD - The REAR transmission case fitting receives the return line.

4R70/75W-E - The TOP transmission case fitting receives the return line.

4R44/55E, 5R44/55E, 5R55N, 5R55W, 5R55S- The TOP transmission case fitting receives the return line.

Front Wheel Drive

CD4E (4F44E) - The REAR or pump end transaxle case fitting receives the return line.

4F27E -The REAR or cover end transaxle case fitting receives the return line.

AX4S/AX4N (4F50N) - The BOTTOM transaxle cooler line fitting receives the return line.

Automatic Transmission Fluid In-line Service Filter Kit must be installed in most rear wheel drive transmissionswhen overhauled or a remanufactured transmission is installed.

The kit is designed for first time installations. For subsequent installations, the filter is also available as a separateservice part (replace the in-line service filter after every transmission overhaul, exchange, or fluid change).

This Limited Warranty provides that Ford will credit the Dealer or Installer for repairing or replacing, at Fordsoption, any Ford or Motorcraft Remanufactured Diesel Engine sold by Ford that is found to be defective in factory-supplied materialor workmanship subject to the following terms, conditions and limitations:

Retail Customers: To obtain warranty service, please return your vehicle to any Ford, Lincoln or Mercury Dealershipor return to the Installer who originally installed the Ford or Motorcraft Diesel Engine Assembly in your vehicle.Please have your original dated receipt for installation date verification.

This statement applies to over-the-counter customers of a Dealer or Installer, such as a retail customer or fleet customer.

The Dealer or Installer can claim both parts and labor under the Limited Warranty if the retail customer, at his/her option:

Q Returns the vehicle to the Installer (from which the assembly or component was purchased) or to any Dealer for repairs, or

Q Returns the Ford or Motorcraft Remanufactured Diesel Engine to the Installer (from which the assembly or component waspurchased) or to any Dealer for repairs

NOTES:Q The original Installer or any Dealer (even though that particular Dealer was not the original purchaser/seller of the product)

may claim under this Limited Warranty

Q In order for the Dealer or Installer to claim under the Limited Warranty, the Dealer, Installer or customer (whether original customeror subsequent transferee) must provide the original owners repair order or sales slip when repairs are requested

Q Only new Ford Original Equipment or Ford authorized remanufactured parts or assemblies may be used to complete coveredwarranty repairs

Q Installer labor reimbursement is calculated using Ford Labor Times Standard hours multiplied by the selling dealerships warrantylabor rate, or the Installers actual labor total, whichever is less

Q Diagnostic steps taken to determine cause of warrantied concern with diagnostic results must be clearly documented on Installerrepair order. (Warranty parts and labor reimbursement requests must be supported by diagnostic labor steps and test results)

Q All parts replaced under warranty must be returned to your selling Dealer
