The course ‘Economics of Transition’ focuses on the analysis of the past and present economic performance as well as on the future develop-ment challenges in transition economies, and the course ‘International Business’ gets you familiar with the key characteristic and issues of doing business in the Western Balkans in the context of the international business.

One course has a workload of about 120 contact hours and may replace min. one course 3 credit hours or 6 ECTS. Students can also take both courses and gain 12 ECTS, however, they need to be aware of the higher intensity of the studying this decision will require.

The numerous trips are essential for the program and will cover visits at companies and institutions in economic development as well as governmen-tal departments in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro. In addition the participants will get an introduction to the respective everyday culture and cultural monu-ments.

Applications will be handled by the Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana.

Participants will have to proof the respective visa, adequate health insurance and liability insurance.

The Summer School ‘BALKAN EXPRESS’It provides you with basic understanding of economic and social development in transition ecnomies, as well as it gets you closer to understand how to do business in the Western Balkans with a help of two courses: Economics of Transition and International Business.

THE STRUCTUREThree weeks intensive program during which the classes will be performed in Ljubljana, Banja Luka, Mostar and Podgorica (Kotor), and additional excursions and discussions will be held in Zagreb, Sarajevo and Dubrovnik. Students can take one or both courses, each being worth 6 ECTS, depending on the intensity of the studying they would like to experience.

LEARNING GOALSTo create awareness, thorough understanding of the path-dependent economic development, and to understand the basic characteristic of speci�c countries and Western Balkans as a region for conducting business.

TARGET GROUPMotivated and interested students in Economics/Management Programs on Bachelor‘s (�nal year) or Master‘s level. All appli-cations are welcome; students from partners in the NIBES group may get a higher priority.
