Reflection
Why does Jesus tell his disciples to not take joy in their own successes, even spiritual ones? Jesus makes clear that the true
source of our joy is God, and God alone. Regardless of the circumstances, in good times and bad times, in success or loss, God
always assures us of victory in Jesus Christ. Jesus assures his disciples that he has all power over evil, including the power of
Satan and the evil spirits or fallen angels who conspire against us. In fact, that is why Jesus came into the world to overthrow
the evil one (John 12:31). We, too, as disciples of Jesus have been given spiritual authority and power for overcoming the
works of darkness and evil (1 John 2:13-14).
"Lord Jesus, may the joy and truth of the Gospel transform my life that I may witness it to those around me.
Grant that I may spread your truth and merciful love wherever I go."

Latin America & Catholic University of America Latin America -
Support for various pastoral projects throughout Latin America and the Caribbean is made possible through the
Collection for the Church in Latin America. Projects are at the continental, regional, diocesan and local
levels, and include the work of evangelization, formation of laity, religious and seminarians, as well as
youth ministry and catechesis. Funding is limited to pro-grammatic expenses and excludes building construction except in cases of emergency.
Saint Benedict, in full
Saint Benedict of Nursia, Nursia also spelled Norcia, (born c. 480 CE, Nursia [Italy]—died c. 547, Monte Cassino; feast day July 11, formerly March 21), founder of the Benedictine monastery at Monte Cassino and father of Western monasticism; the rule that he established became the norm for monastic living throughout Europe. In 1964, in view of the work of monks following the Benedictine Rule in the evangelization and civilization of so many European countries in the Middle Ages, Pope Paul VI proclaimed him the patron saint of all Europe.

Fr. John Murray News:
Fr. John Murray recently celebrated his 25 years of Priesthood with a Celebration of the Eucharist in Thanksgiving at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church, his parish in Columbia, South Carolina. A reception hosted by parishioners featured a slide presentation with photos of the parishes and people Fr. met during those 25 years; including many photos of Sacred Heart Church members, events and students at Sacred Heart School it was a beautiful day filled with love and laughter.
On a sadder note, Fr. John’s mother, Ann T. Murray recently passed away surrounded by her family. Fr. often talked about his Mom and Dad and recalled, at his reception, how his Mom would often remind him that he was born on Holy Thursday, the day Christ gave us the Eucharist and instituted the holy priesthood.
May Our Lord continue to bless Fr. John and his family.
Ordained a Priest for you! Fr. John Murray C.Ss.R.— May 7, 1994. My first Mass—Holy Redeemer College,
Washington, D.C., May 1994 ‘Come, follow me!’ “There was a clear sense that
what I heard was no human voice, nor was it just an idea of my own. Christ was calling me to serve
him as a priest.” St. John Paul II

There was a scholar of the law who stood up
to test him and said, “Teacher, what must I do
to inherit eternal life?” Jesus said to him,
What is written in the Law? How do you read it?
He said in reply, “You shall love the Lord, your
God, with all your heart, with all your being, with
all your strength, and with all your mind, and
your neighbor as yourself.”
He replied to him,
“You have answered correctly;
do this and you will live.”
St. Gerard's Memorial Brick Program
This program is being run by the St. Vincent
de Paul Conference. The engraved bricks cost
$50; bricks with a logo cost $10 more.
Forms with Instructions are available on the
bulletin board in the vestibule of St. Gerard's.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy
Communion are lay ministers who
have been commissioned by the Bishop
of Orlando to assist the priest in
distributing Holy Communion at Mass.
They serve at all Masses at Saint
Gerard's Church – Saturdays at 4:30 pm, Sundays at 10:00 am,
Wednesdays and First Friday at 9:00 am, Holy Days, Funeral
Masses and, with special training, visits to the homebound.
Catholics in good standing must be recommended by the Pastor
to the Diocese of Orlando. They are initially trained by the
Diocese in a three hour class. These classes are held in various
locations throughout the year. Once trained, the mandates are
good for 5 years. After the initial training, Extraordinary
Ministers receive instruction on the procedures at Saint Gerard's
Church. Schedules are posted monthly. Ministers can indicate at
what Mass they prefer to serve, and are asked to find a substitute
if they are unable to serve on their scheduled day. They may be
asked to arrive thirty minutes to an hour before Mass to help
prepare for the Eucharistic celebration.
Baptized and confirmed Catholics are qualified to be
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.
The St. Gerard Ministry of Music is welcoming new members. Both choirs have room for you, but our need is currently greatest
for our Saturday afternoon liturgy. Summertime is the perfect time to begin. The music is well known and it will be a simpler time for
you to get into the rhythm of your new role as a choir member. Learn more about your faith and music, make new friendships and
exercise your lungs and brain! We are praying for you to join us in our Music Ministry for the Lord. A brief vocal range exercise is mandatory before joining. Time commitment fluctuates from
1 hour in July/August and 2 to 3 hours from September to June.
Contact Ellen Graf at 386-689-7828 or [email protected] or stop by the piano after mass and introduce yourself!
MINISTRY FOR READERS We have had some changes in our Ministry for Readers.
Now, we have only one Reader designated for our Saturday
Mass.
If you have had any desire to be a
Reader, this would be the perfect time.
Your help would be immensely
appreciated.
PLEASE CONSIDER
HELPING OUR READER.
