BALLPOINT PENS • The word “pen” comes from the Latin word “pinna” meaning feather, because the fi st pens were quill pens made from feathers. • When people wrote with quill pens, it was customary to carry a small knife in order to cut new pens— called a penknife. • Today ballpoint ink is dye dissolved in vegetable oils and/or castor oil. • When the fi st ballpoint pens went on sale on in 1945 at Gimbels in New York City, 5,000 people jammed the store to get a chance to buy one for $12.50 which was equal to a day’s pay. Fifty extra police offic s were called and 47 people fainted in the crush. 10,000 pens were sold in six hours, and an average of 6,000 pens were sold daily for four months after that. This in spite of the fact that the pens did not work very well. • A good pen can write 50 thousand words before running out of ink. • Every second, about 125 ballpoint pens are sold around the world. | D | „Ein wirklich erfolgreicher Stuhl ist die gelungene Symbi-ose aus Funktionalität, Ergonomie und formaler Ausprägung“, das ist die Gestaltungsmaxime von Volker Eysing. Zahlreiche Auszeichnungen und Preise wie der SieMatic Küchenaward, der Braun Preis sowie der Förderpreis für Industrie-Design des Landes Schleswig Holstein durfte er bereits entgegennehmen. 2010 folgte der red dot design award für die überzeugende Büro stuhllinie SITAGEGO. Zudem war V. Eysing massgeblich an der Entwicklung der Stuhlfamilie SITAGART beteiligt.
| E | “A really successful chair is the fortunate symbiosis of functionality, ergonom-ics, and formal distinctiveness”: this is the design maxim of Volker Eysing, designer of SITAGART. He has been the recipient of numerous distinctions and prizes, including the SieMatic Kitchen Prize, the Braun Prize, and the Incentive Award for Industrial Design of the German Federal State of Schleswig-Holstein. In 2010 his achievements contin-ued with the Red Dot Design Award for the impressive SITAGEGO range of office chairs. In addition, Volker Eysing played a key role in development of the SITAGART family of chairs.
