Urs Oberhänsli will be part of the Swissalpine Marathon this summer for the 30th time. Urs is the father of two grown-up children, runs a retail business and lives in the Canton of Thurgau. His leisure time is taken up by running, bike riding, mountain- biking, swimming and skiing. He also has a passion for the ice hockey matches between Eishockey Thurgau and the HC Davos.

More than just a raceDear Runners,Dear Friends of Runners and Enthusiasts,

It was almost impossible to contain my nervousness. What am I facing ? Can I cope with it ? That unforgettable moment at the 65th kilometre when I saw the bench located between the "Spinnelen-wald" and the "Bolgenwald" in the forest glade near Davos. It came to me : I am 28 years old, and I have almost comple-ted my first Swissalpine ultra- and moun-tain-marathon.

Since then, a lot has changed. The sweat saturated, heavy cotton shirts have been replaced by functional running clothing. For a long time, my running training was concentrated on the Swissalpine. No-wadays, I train the whole year and enjoy my runs. The nervousness has also re-duced substantially.

That which remains the same, is my mo-tivation and the fascination which the

Swissalpine holds for me. Year after year, I travel to Davos. There is much which makes this run unique: the country- side of Davos, the spectators and helpers, running with others yet alone, the moun-tains, the scent of the Alpine herbs, the speakers in Wiesen and Sertigdörfli, the run to the Finish, the Start Number 73 …

Thirty years later, and I'll be there again. In Davos. I stand at the start of "my" race. I enjoy it the full and wish each and every one of my running colleagues that they will achieve their personal goals as well as enjoy it, and that we can together partake on and experience this 30th Swissalpine Marathon in Davos.

Your Urs Oberhänsli

DESIGNEDFOR FREEDOM

30 years of the Swissalpine Marathon DavosThe beginning of this run of the insane goes back to 1986. Today, it is one of the most successful sport events in the Gri-sons, with over 4 000 participants and 17 000 assistants, helpers and spectators.

The secret to its success lies in the cons-tant development of the event, and in the variety of routes and categories. By

means of this diversity, beginners, hob-byists and the ambitious all have an equal opportunity to be part of it. The intact and impressive mountain landscape of the Grisons is the cherry on the proverbial cake.

The Swissalpine is pure fascination – even more than just a run.

Special Anniversary Programme

The Swissalpine Marathon on 25th July 2015 has earned a special orchestration. Therefore, we will receive you this sum-mer with new and optimised routes and experiences, and have redesigned the Start /Finish as a place of festivity.

The diverse preparation week "Highse-ven" is the perfect introduction to the event. Of the different race categories, the new circular Davos–Dischma–Sertig–Davos (S42) course is the highlight, being the highest mountain marathon in Eu-rope, and the perfect supplement to the classic K78 and K42 events. The T78, with its 78 km of route, can now also be run as an anniversary team relay event, and the attractive route will appeal to even begin-ners to running. Spectators will also be at-tracted by the fact that Davos itself will be the pivot of the events – seven of the new races will now start and finish here. Even the youngest in their own categories will be part of it all.

In short: the 30th Swissalpine Davos of-fers everything for everyone.

The Marathon in Figures

In 29 years Swissalpine Marathon Davos were 91 289 runners at the Start.

88%, or 80 317, achieved a status as Fini-sher. Together they ran the incredible to-tal distance of some 3 957 898 km – that's about 100 circumnavigations of the earth, or five trips to the Moon and back.

All this needed an almost unfathomable about of energy, requiring 132 205 bana-nas. The participants from 84 countries and representing 106 nations, were suppor-ted, cared for and heartily encouraged by 1 100 helpers.

This year, nine runners will be taking part on the Swissalpine Davos for the 30th time. Perhaps this time is your first – it certainly will not be your last.

We look forward to having you with us, to the number of applications running at full power.

Secret Tips Regarding the Swissalpine Marathon

For the Curious : the "Gwunder" ForestIntroduce your imagination, your senses and your heart to our "Gwunder" Forest. This path of natural beauty can be combined into an eightfold occurrence of partial routes. It takes place in the heather regions of Davos, and is suitable for active families.

For Adventurers : "Trottinett-Enjoyment" SertigAll aboard, and let's go ! This eventful footboard-scooter ride is a fun alternative to run-ning into the valley. The Start is located next to the Hotel Walserhuus in Sertig, winds through the indescribably beautiful Sertig Valley, and continues down to the "Reit- halle" in Davos Frauenkirch. The descent is suitable for families, and lasts about 30 minutes. So, let's go!

For those craving the sun: Lake DavosSailing, surfing, pedal boating, splashing in the water, or simply enjoying the sun – ever-ything is possible on Lake Davos. In summer, the splendid shores of this naturally dam-med lake offer a route of some 3.8 km, at water temperatures of 20° C, which also at-tract those who enjoy water sports – nourishment is available in the lakeside restaurant.

Passionate about history ? Try the "Heidi Route"Would you like to follow in the tracks of Heidi and Peter the goat-herd ? The scene of the production of the first Swiss "Heidi" movie, which took place between 1952 and 1954, was the Alpine forest clearing called "Maiensäss Siedlung Falein". This idyllic hiking trail over the mountain range passes from Stuls via Runsolas, and further along the original high Alpine trail, to the original Heidi Cottage in Falein. Upon arrival, you will even be served an original "4 o'clock Heidi snack" from the farmer family who live there. Heidi, Heidiiii ...

For Enthusiasts: the Lake "Palpuogna"The blue-green Lake "Palpuogna", nestling in a gorgeously beautiful and peaceful mountain area, will welcome you to a world of relaxation and dreams. This is more or less the most astonishingly beautiful spot in Switzerland. The sign-posted hiking trail originates in Preda, and heads upwards in the direction of the Albula Pass. The required time to complete this trail is around one hour.
