FrankfurtRhineMain International, competitive and well connected – the metropolitan region FrankfurtRheinMain has a lot to offer. 7,9 % of the GDP of Germany are generated on an area that makes up just 3,7 % of the total size of the country. The Hessian part of the metropolitan region accounts for an astonishing 78,0 % of that state’s overall GDP. This is partially due to the large number of national and international businesses situated in the region, and partially due to the increasing number of employees paying social insurance. Between 2015 and 2018 their number rose by more than 150.000 to 2.298.851. Numerous universities with almost a quarter of a million students and a number of science and research institutions guarantee a steady supply of young professionals and innovations. Thanks to the centrally located international airport, almost 70 million passengers and more than 2 million tons of freight reached the metropolitan area in 2018. On more than 11.000 km of roads, the major rail freight as well as the hub Frankfurt and through 7 river ports thousands of passengers and tons of freight are transported every day.
