Problem they were trying to solve?

• The world’s largest airline to migrate aa.com, its customer facing mobile app, airport kiosks, and critical enterprise workloads to IBM Cloud. AA to leverage IBM’s global footprint to scale operations. Developers to leverage IBM Cloud to build critical apps for the airline’s customers.

Why containers?

• Leveraging open-source technologies is important to ensure we don’t get locked down by proprietary solutions.

How did they get started?

• IBM and American Airlines have had a partnership based on innovation that started over half a century ago. The journey to the cloud with IBM is another significant milestone.

American Airlines transformed their customer facing applications on IBM Cloud through VMware ‘lift & shift’ and containers

Why IBM?

• AA wanted a partner that would offer them the agility to innovate at the organizational and process levels and have deep industry expertise with security at its core. They felt confident that IBM was the right long-term partner to not only provide the public cloud platform, but also enable our delivery transformation.

Initial response?

• Moving from talking about cloud to actually moving to the cloud seems simple, but that is a big step for a company the size of American. IBM is helping address their organization and processes so that they can take full advantage of the productivity, speed, and agility benefits of cloud computing.
