Aruba ist eine der drei ABC-Inseln (Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao), die geographisch zu Südamerika gehören und Teil der Kleinen Antillen in der südlichen Karibik sind. Die Insel liegt 25 Kilometer nördlich von Venezuela. Sie ist neben den Inseln Curaçao und St. Maarten sowie den Niederlanden (bestehend aus den eigentlichen Niederlanden in Europa, sowie Bonaire, Sint Eustatius und Saba in der Karibik) einer der vier gleichberechtigten Teile des Königreiches der Niederlande. Wie die anderen Landesteile hat auch Aruba eine eigene Verfassung und Regierung. Die Insel genießt vollkommene innere Autonomie.

Aruba is one of the three ABC-Islands (Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao) belonging geographically to South America and are a part of the lesser Antilles. The Island is 25 km north of Venezuela. It is next to the islands Curacao and St. Maarten and the Netherlands (consisting of the actual Netherlands in Europe, as well as Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba in the Caribbean), one of four equal parts of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Like the other parts of the country Aruba also has ist own constitution and government. The island enjoys complete internal autonomy.
