Bahrain

Das Königreich Bahrain (auch Bahrein; arabisch البحرين, DMG al-Baḥrayn ‚al-Bahrain‘) ist ein aus 33 Inseln bestehender Inselstaat in einer Bucht im Persischen Golf, östlich von Saudi-Arabien und westlich von Katar (ca. 35 km Luftlinie). Mit einer Fläche von rund 750 km² (nach künstlichen Aufspülungen) ist der Archipel etwas kleiner als das Hamburger Stadtgebiet. Der Name Bahrain bedeutet im Arabischen „zwei Meere“. Dies bezieht sich auf das Meer, welches die Insel umgibt und das Grundwasser.

Bahrain :; officially the Kingdom of Bahrain (Arabic: مملكة (Mamlakat al-Baḥrayn البحرينis a small island country situated near the western shores of the Persian Gulf. It is an archipelago, with the largest island being Bahrain Island at 55 km (34 mi) long by 18 km (11 mi) wide. Saudi Arabia lies to the west and is connected to Bahrain by the King Fahd Causeway, Iran lies 200 km (124 mi) to the north of Bahrain, across the Gulf. The peninsula of Qatar is to the southeast across the Gulf of Bahrain. The planned Qatar Bahrain Causeway will link Bahrain and Qatar and become the world's longest marine causeway. The population in 2010 stood at 1,234,571, including 666,172 non-nationals.
