Austrian aircraft manufacturing history dates back to the 1900s, when Etrich started to develop planes like the “Etrich Taube” and Wiener Neustadt became the first airfield and aircraft production site in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In the last two decades, Austria was able to build on this tradition and its key values such as productivity, quality, flexibility and reliability.

The Austrian Aeronautics/Supply/Industry has grown rapidly since the 1980s, increasing its annual turn-over up to one billion € over the last 25 years – all that with an export share of almost 100%. Austrian companies operate successfully in many niches and supply chains of the international aeronautics industry, especially as valued experts for composites (interiors & structures), metal & metal processing (Ti, Al, Mg), plastics, small aircraft (especially for General Aviation) and UAS, engines, manufacturing technology, test equipment, communication, elec- tronics, interiors and various equipments.

  • About AAIThe Austrian Aeronautics Industries Group (AAI), founded as a non-profit organisation in 1999, is the national association of the Austrian Aeronautics/Supply/Industry. AAI represents – on national and international matters – the common interests of its more than 30 members: Austrian companies and organisations with business or research activities in the Aeronautics/Supply/Industry as well as in the sector of Aircraft Maintenance & Service.

AAI organises joint information exchange as well as marketing and networking activities of its members towards national bodies in Austria and the international aeronautics industry. Furthermore, AAI and its member companies are also members of ASD (Aero-space & Defence Industries Association of Europe), and therefore fully integrated into the respective European information and de-cision-making processes. Many members of AAI are engaged in manifold commissions and groups of ASD.

AAI has the following four working bodies:

▶ The General Assembly meets twice per year to bring all mem-bers of AAI together. It decides on the general strategy of the as-sociation, elects the board and facilitates the information exchange among our members.

▶ Our Board consists of top managers and directors of leading Aeronautics/Supply/Companies from all over Austria. It decides on the implementation of our general strategy and elects the President as well as the Secretary General.

▶ The Secretary General & the AAI Office are responsible for all day-to-day activities of AAI, in particular the operational implemen- tation of the general strategy and its further development.

▶ Our Working Groups The Quality Committee (AAI-QC) coordinates all activities related to Quality Management, particularly the Austrian implementation of the ICOP Scheme for the assessment and certification of Supplier Quality Management Systems (e.g. AS/EN 9100) in accordance with the requirements contained in 9104. AAI has also installed the ILS Working Group Austria (AAI-ILS-WG), dealing with all issues related to Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), e.g. standards from the ASD Suite of ILS Specifications like S1000D. The UAS Working Group (AAI-UAS-WG) takes care of all topics related to Unmanned Aircraft Systems. All AAI-members are entitled to nominate their experts for our Working Groups.
